So far as I know no one took my advice. Sad
I've been talking about Bitcoin for a year++.

The only person who "took my advice" was someone I convinced to download the app on their phone, and I sent 'em $5 in BTC.  Which is, of course, closer to $7 now.

It was rather recently. Tongue

Tried convincing my mother today, to buy in to bitcoin, at least a little. 1 or 2.
She didn't go for it. Not that I really blame her, the price seems so high right now.

I want in but the price sort of seems high.  What do you Knowledgeable experienced people think would be the best time to buy 1 btc and see where it goes?  If you don't have a good grasp on graphs and the Bitcoin markets then pls don't post, this is to help me and others get a grasp of what we should do next without reading posts with people bickering.

I've been ready to buy since $13 and waited and now obviously I'm paying for that mistake.  I don't have a good grasp on graphs and a strong idea what could happen next.  I understand it's not all about graphs and I don't plan to make my decision based on others comments in here but I'd like valuable posts to help me make a final decision, please stay on topic.  What should I do buy or coin or wait for a lower price, if u think wait please fully explain why if u feel the opposite please fully explain why, if you are unsure what could happen next please fully explain why.  Please be respectful of others and there opinions, thanks!  Smiley

If we told you to Buy because in less than a year Bitcoin will get up by 1000% or would you have believed us? Well it did.

We are saying it again.
And in june 2011, when the price was 27$, people believed it would go up to 100$ by the end of the month...
And they were wrong.
I don't know where its going, but I'm cautious.

If you do buy, you'll know in your guts if you feel OK about it or not. Until you buy, you won't be sure. So my suggestion is just buy a tiny part of a coin (say 0.1BTC) and see how you feel. You'll then know if you want to buy more or want to sell what you bought.

I actually recently recommended this to all my friends and family. Just buy 1, and then sit on it for several years.

I've been telling them to buy since $30. Just one sodding Bitcoin.

So I bought some Casascius coins, which I will probably distribute as gifts to the people I really like.

All my friends and family have one. I told them to not worry about what the heck that is, just stash it somewhere safe and forget about it for some years.

PS now when it's at $100, I stopped giving out free coins until Casascius prints satoshis Smiley

I have thought about this....but they will forget and and not know how to access their BTC and it will be lost, accidentally sent anyway....you have to have an interest in it and really look into it to understand it....at this time....

Go ahead and buy the bitcoin. It will focus you on studying more about what it's all about. If you decide you don't think there's a future, you can sell (likely for more than what you paid I expect).

Don't buy anything you haven't already accepted might crash in value. If you can accept that possibility then buy it, they could go quite a lot higher before they crash.

Many thanks for the head up I'll be sure to take that into serious condieration.

Thanks for answering me politely,

This forum has ~80 000 members so an even bitcoin distribution would mean ~130 BTC each.... It does not mean much but still I hope you get the idea.

The problem I had with your question is the number "1" BTC while this number should have been 80$ (at the time)

If you want to us to decide for you if you should be investing 80$ on bitcoins we would have to know how easy is it for you to acquire this many USD.

Not a problem, all I wanted was opinionson were people expected Bitcoins to go from here in the somewhat short term so I can decide for myself when to buy.

Not sure what u mean with the even distribution comment I never asked for that and don't follow ur comment.

I wish it would go back to $1/$10/$30 just so I could buy more

Tell me about it!

Just don't buy to panic sell when it drops back to $40 or something like that, bitcoin is very volatile, and its entirely possible that we have a decent sized correction soon after the big run-up (or maybe we won't).  If it were up to me though, I ld rather have 1 bitcoin than no bitcoin.

I did the same thing.. At least a dozen of my friends have taken the advice, and are trading in tenths of a coin, playing with the market. Its fun to watch :p but all in all, I'm holding on to my bitcoins for the forseeable future. I've been burned a few times on these violent dips, thinking it was at last a correction.. but nope.

I'm sold, glad u posted here and linked to to ur thread Nagan.  I've got what I feel are great ideas and now I've got a push to think of more ideas, so thank u very much.  Want to start my own business maybe a couple and getting a coin would be helpful right now, so yea I'll joining in fun.

Being that I'm still learning, I feel like a newbie and love thinking of ways to get more people in my position into bitcoin and would love a chance to give back.  It's great seeing people still having fun within the Bitcoin community, I commend u my friend.

You may have had an account on bitcointalk since may 2011 and contemplated owning bitcoins since it was ~13$ but I can't advise you to own even a fraction of a BTC if you "don't have a good grasp on graphs". ... WTF did you say "graphs" ?

I hope you managed to go forth with other aspects of your life in the meanwhile.

If you haven't noticed almost everyone around here has sold everything but the bare minimum for staying alive to get more BTC.

Seriously, What kind of advices do you expect ?

Hey Transisto u seem agitated by my question and statements, hope I didn't offend you buy registering here years ago when I first heard of bitcion. Yup I said graphs, obviously that isn't okay with u, not that it matters.

Thanks for the consideration and yes I've been quite busy with life and enjoying hobbies.  I get the feeling u want me to sell almost everything and follow the herd but that isn't my style for better or for worse.  U make it sound like every member is currently a bull and I'm foolish for getting oppinons from the community, I assume u made good money yet u seem angry, why?

When 1 BTC worth 100 000$ does it really matter whether you have bought it at 70$ or 80$ or 100$?

Would you pay $81 for something that will be worth $100 in a few weeks and $1000 in a year?

OFCOURSE!!   Grin

Are you ok with losing this money if it does not work out?

I get what ur saying and after giving it thought, yes I am ok with it.

I could be wrong, but I suspect you are in the following psychological trap. When price is rising, you think, "price is so high, better wait for a dip." But then when the dip comes, you think, "whoa, price is going down, maybe it will crash more, better wait." So no matter what happens you wait. Instead of waiting for the perfect buy-in, I would just buy and hold long term. Short term prices are hard to predict, but long term current price is a good buy. Yeah, it could very well drop to 70 right after you buy it, but if you hold, I think you will ultimately do well. Have you thought about the fundamentals? If not, check out the article below. I'll grant that this guy's projections are a bit over the top, but consider that even if he is off by a factor of 100, the low end target for Bitcoin is $1K. I'm not going to tell you that right now is the perfect time to buy, but since your problem seems to be hesitation, what better time than now to overcome that and go for it?

http://falkvinge.net/2013/03/06/the-target-value-for-bitcoin-is-not-some-50-or-100-it-is-100000-to-1000000/

hate to admit it but u got me, that is my problem and why I posted the thread I'll def check out the article thanks!

I don't know your current financial situation but $80 is a negligible amount in the whole life for most people in developed countries. If this is true for you, buying 1 BTC right now is a good idea.

buy now and have more fiat dollars to buy more if we ever see a correction, this whole Cyprus deal is causing bitcoins to only go up from here...

Duly noted friends ,  If Cyprus can have a strong impact I'd be a fool not buy in and hold.

I know :-)

The first problem is, you're asking for opinions, and you will get them all over the spectrum.

The real problem is, there are two axes of data you need to plot (risk vs. reward), not just one (up or down).

The thing with risk is: It is relatively constant over time. The chance of there being a news event that breaks Bitcoin is similar tomorrow as it is today. You're not decreasing that risk by delaying.

Well put, I'm done regretting and will make a decision and live with it as u said there is always risk.

Woops, price is now over $81. Hesitation isn't helping you. Silver might be a good investment, but personally I think the upside potential for BTC is much much better, even at current price.

Don't know what to say I want to boo u but it comes boohoo lol

If it is literally 1 bitcoin you are going to buy, I would just buy the dang thing and stop worrying about it. Price could dip significantly below 80 soon or sometime later, but if you just hold your coin for a few years, chances are that it will be worth considerably more than 80. But if you are really scared of the idea that the value of your investment might drop $30 below your buy price at some point, then maybe investing isn't for you. It sounds to me like your fear of losing has you frozen, which so far has resulted in missing $63 in profit. I'm holding my bitcoins long term for much higher prices, but I'm also willing to tough out the downtrends, big dips, etc. First rule of investing is, don't invest what you aren't prepared to lose.

Well said, I'm just on the fence If I should buy silver with the funds or Bitcions.  It's killing me to watch the price go up but I'm leaning to getting a coin or two and holding for the long haul wether up of down but would be nice if the price stopped goin up lol sorry to say it. Smiley

buy $13 worth then. it's irrelevant how many BTCs you get, it's the value that counts.

Hmm I like that point even though I'm unsure I agree with it fully it's still an option well worth considering.

What's the difference what the price is?

No guts, no glory.

This isn't war it's my money where talking bout, lol!  I'm thinkin with my brain not my brawn but I hear where ur coming from it's time to get off the fence and make moves is the feeling I'm getting from u this thread so far.

Interesting point, thanks for posting that another option to consider but I'll just stick it out.

First rule of investing is, don't invest what you aren't prepared to lose.

thanks but u didn't explain why lol JK  Wink

If you don't understand it and what makes it valuable, then I probably wouldn't buy it.

I understand why buy but would hate to buy when the market is expecting a major correction soon u know?

buy $13 worth then. it's irrelevant how many BTCs you get, it's the value that counts.

I actually recently recommended this to all my friends and family. Just buy 1, and then sit on it for several years. If Bitcoin goes bust you are only out $60 (at the time). If Bitcoin works out the way some people suggest (and I agree), it could be worth 6 figures. A worthy investment. Smiley

So far as I know no one took my advice. Sad

So I bought some Casascius coins, which I will probably distribute as gifts to the people I really like.

I want in but the price sort of seems high.  What do you Knowledgeable experienced people think would be the best time to buy 1 btc and see where it goes?  If you don't have a good grasp on graphs and the Bitcoin markeIf you buy, don't ts then pls don't post, this is to help me and others get a grasp of what we should do next without reading posts with people bickering.

Smiley
