Hi there,

I am a newbie in the UK trying to get started. I'm trying to read and understand the available info out there and jeez its hard!

I was going to have my account through Coinbase but apparently thats not the best.

So I have set up Breadwallet on my iphone and Electrum on my Mac desktop.
How and where do I buy Bitcoin and how do I transfer that to my wallets on phone and/or desktop?

I would want to do a tiny amount to see how this process works.

Help please. Smiley

This is a welcome discussion point.  Really appreciate you bring this to our attention. Buy low, sell high, it seems so simple but most investors still don't seem to get it :-) Besides coinmarketcap.com there is:  https://www.coincheckup.com I'm using this site that gives in depth reports on every tradable cryto in the market. Go to:  https://www.coincheckup.com/coins/Bitcoin#analysis For a complete Bitcoin Analysis

Why do you think Coinbase isn't a good place to buy bitcoin? It's good place to buy bitcoins. Offcourse, they can ask for identity verification, but many exchanges can ask for it.
But if you don't want to use Coinbase, there are many alternatives for you - Paxful, Cex.io, Exmo, Spectrocoin, Bitstamp and many more. You can check all available exchanges in your country there:

There is nothing wrong with having a Coinbase account. You just have to understand the positives and negatives. The main good points are that it's simple to get going and they are a long-established trusted company. For convenience and small amounts they are a good option.

The bad point is that Coinbase is a big, above board service, meaning they will comply with everything governments require. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but we all know governments are not always helpful but can be harmful for ordinary interests of people. Bitcoin is about being free to make your own decisions and use your own money how you want to. For example, if you want to spend time gambling you probably shouldn't use Coinbase to buy the bitcoins you'll gamble. That's where peer-to-peer services like LocalBitcoins.com come in. You buy bitcoins from another person like yourself, not a company, so they're much less likely to be tracked.

Electrum has been the right choice. Regarding Coinbase well I dont want to diss them, at least they provide a quick entry point. For "tiny amounts" they are completely justified.
Register a trade account on Kraken or Bitfinex. Upload some documents regarding residence or ur passport to qualify for Fiat to BTC exchange.

In some years onwards you will feel like having obtained gold bullion in a failing economy, having saved some value.

For someone who are new to Bitcoin, I would suggest you sign up with a local exchange. There are a lot of people bashing Coinbase, but you just need to follow their rules and you should be fine. The reason for this is simple, they are regulated and have to adhere to a bunch of AML/KYC regulations and this keeps them honest, or should I rather say, more honest than most of the non-regulated services out there.

You do not have to keep those coins on their site, because you can create your own paper wallets and then transfer some of those coins to these wallets for long term storage. < Just make sure you create these paper wallets in the correct and most secure way >

So I gave you some homework now. ^smile^ Do some research on creating your own secure paper wallets for cold storage and find some local Bitcoin exchange with a good reputation and track record.

Good luck, and welcome to our Bitcoin family.

First of all you must buy a Bitcoin from a seller that available in your place or just go to Localbitcoins.com you can find their some Bitcoin seller that accepted some payment gateway like paypal , credit card and many more.

In transferring Bitcoin to the another Bitcoin wallet just copy here Bitcoin address and send some amount of Bitcoin on that wallet.Or jusmaybe search some video in yourube like this video
That's is the brief guide I hope you understand  Smiley
