If you want to play it safe don't exceed AMDs suggested Catalyst Overdrive max settings. The only cooling option you need are graphics cards that come with non-reference coolers with 3 fans on. When the fans die it's easy to rip the old one off and stick 92mm case fans on there later!

Can I just revert the paste? and revert all changes before rma?

but if impossible then Ok Ill do that and cuz of lost warranty Ill most prolly buy a used card since its cheaper. What do you think?

Even if you reverse the mod, any tech for the company will be able to spot different compound, damaged screw heads, and noob tampering. Your warranty won't be covered if you modify then revert. If you try to claim, then its a fraudulent claim.

Don't try to push your mistakes on to the manufacture or reseller, man up and take the blame, learn from it and share it with others   

as always it differs from gpu to gpu. I have had more then 35 gpus mining coins. some just can not be disassembled with leaving  a mess. so I am saying you need to have a gpu that comes apart with ease.

 all the xfx 7950's and xfx7970's are really hard to get back to stock condition.

are 4 screws.

the visiontek r9 280x is 4 screws and all the ram is not heatsinked at all.

it is very easy to add a water cooler that will cool  both the gpu and the ram then co back to stock.
the sapphire hd 7970 is 4 screws and the ram has very nice little heat sinks. so leave the ram alone and add the air cooler from prolimatech just to the gpu. you can set this card back to stock really easy.

buy a few tube of heatsink compound so that at least one of them is close in color to the stock compound.

the two cards i mention  are but 2 that are easy to add a cooler to and setback to stock.

remember doing that and asking for a warranty is a deception that I am not telling you to do. but that I am telling you people do that with certain gpu's.

this one just the gpu is easy with the air-cooled prolimatech leave the  ram alone.

I would after more but the above  cards are the ones I owned that  had bad fans so I repaired or aftermarket cooled them.

And you would never know I did the visiontek or the sapphires if I set them back to stock. but you would be able to tell I repaired the xfx gear.

what about "modding" If I change thermalcompound and heatsink or anything else can i reverse that too so they wont know Ive done it and my warranty still works?
so what cant be reversed?)

there is a way to do what you want but it is tricky.  you need to buy a diy card from a seller on ebay that offers the gpu as a fully modded working gnu.  he needs to offer square trade .  you could also buy one on amazon but you have to buy it from someone with the mod done.

If I list the card on ebay with the cooler  you may be able to get a square trade warranty  for it.  I have a square trade relationship and have offered square trade warranties for my diy pc's over the years.


BTW I am not looking to sell the card I mine ltc with it.

no one offers coverage if you diy your gnu add aftermarket cooling and kill the gear.


That said some gpu's can be taken apart and a better cooler added then set back to stock.

The r9 280x by visiontek has only 4 screws to remove the stock cooler.

you could put a better cooler on it and then set it back to stock at a later date.

no one would know you did this.

it can be over clocked using msi after burner

I want to overclock & mod my gpu.But Ive never done that before and even though Im able to do it I just want to play it safe.


Ive seen squaretrade offers coverage for gpu but doesnt say for what exactly. Plz reply.
