Buying an account has multiple risks. The main risk is obviously to be scammed by the seller, the second risk is to buy a dangerous account, as they wrote before me some accounts here on the forum are dangerous for legal purposes for  fraud problems, so who knows you can be at penal risk too.

Theymos doesn't really care if people sell accounts, farm accounts, or any of that.

I’m not sure about that. I know hilariousandco bans people for farming accounts, and I suppose that’s done following Theymos guidelines.

People will always try to make money on anything. This is inevitable. Simple law of economics, when supply meets demand. Good to see that Legendary accounts are hard, almost impossible to buy. Merit source and DT account should be disabled if sold.

This place is like an Eldorado for some.
But it should not be an Eldorado.

This is a place to spread the greatness of decentralization, pear to pear banking system, take back the control from the centralized manipulated power seeking authority. Earning some money while you are spending your time here is ok but it's not ok when you are thinking that this is a place to earn money. This is a forum. Respect the spirit.

This is the easiest way to get red trust or even ban from this forum, it should not be tolerated but still, so many people are selling  accounts, I think the price is quite high now because it is very hard to rank up now because of the merit system.

71 BCT account! You do see a big business in there. Business with a forum accounts (buying/selling)... isn't it even sounds odd?

I really don't understand why would I sell my account? I built the account from 0, this account is a part of my daily life. Why would I give this account to someone else just for few Dollars? It worth more for me than to sell it to anyone else if I leave this forum ever. If anyone wants to income from bounty or whatever, just let them to create an account and build it for themselves.

I guess the root of the problem were before the Merit system. It was easy for people to create accounts whenever they wanted and raked up easily. They never realized the hard time that need to build up a good account like now. Good thing that Merit is here.

I was thinking would it be possible to implement a TEMPORARY restriction of some sort on a bought
account to prove the new owner is worthy in some ways.
Agree, May be disable their sig space and also ban them if they ever try to post in the bounty section LOL
Let me tell you something, my friend. There are places on this planet, where people earn few grands for year and considered to be rich. And mostly they work very hard. So, imagine that you can sit at home and make this money for sh*t posting and selling accs and you will get an answer for your "why?". This place is like an Eldorado for some.

We need to ban account sales because after finding out that some trusted escrows are dealing with account sales, it would be hard to find account sellers and buyers to tag them with red. people are going to use such escrow agents to get away scot free.

OP, there's not a lot that's going to be done, unfortunately.  Theymos doesn't really care if people sell accounts, farm accounts, or any of that.  If he did, there are many things that could be done, the most obvious of which would be to ban account sales on the forum.  So I think your suggestion will fall on deaf ears.

Even tagging account buyers & sellers is of limited use, since most people create sock accounts for those purposes.  But I still get a big grin on my face when I find and tag a sold account that's being used to spam.  If you find one that's obviously been sold, drop me a PM.

Actually it is hard/impossible  to stop without any form of KYC whether it is account sales or account farming. Forum do not do KYC (no online forum do as such).  But forum can take phone numbers to be linked with account but still I guess there will be cheap SMS service will be started somewhere to assist in registration.

As they already put in rules if they ban sales in this forum then it will happen outside the forum.

The root is "bounty money" involved in this forum.  I think "Altcoin Section" can be separated to another forum but still it will not help as such as advertising deal will be done outside of this forum to advertise in this forum.

In short ," Money attracts evil". Until and unless this is not solved, efforts to clean the forum will always remain in vain.

He is claiming of having 6 Legendary and 4 Hero Accounts and 21 Sr , 40 Full Members.
To have in possesion such big number of high ranking members are highly unlikely.

Even if he had them, they would be hacked accounts and the possibilty of problems arising after buying them is rather high.

I am betting that he is ripping off people.

a very large account and have a high rank out of nowhere from ....
but obviously I doubt that as many accounts as it is a very potentially profitable account and may be in the possibility of an account there will be problems arising after buying like your statement.

This is a shame because the amount of spam posts flooding the forum is making it unreadable. 9 out of 10 posts are mindless drivel by people who know nothing about anything, usually poorly written or plagiarized, just trying to fill a campaign quota.

I find its not worth chastising shitposters because they seldom go back to threads to read follow-up comments.

Nowadays I turn to less-trafficked sections like this one because they are more informative and entertaining.

Admittedly I did consider selling my account at one time (about 2 years ago) but I couldn't get the price I wanted so I withdrew my offer and kept it -- and now I'm really glad I did.

THIS Is one of the biggest reasons not to buy an account !
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--4679939

Imagine buying an account previously owned by a criminal wanted on fraud charges by the FBI or the SEC.

It could land you into trouble for something you haven't done and it certainly will put you under scrutiny.

Why buy an account from a swindler where you could end up with:

1) No account and ripped off
2) Paying a lot for "just an account".
3) An account previously owned by a criminal
4) An account that could be banned for plagiarism if that was done during farming the account.

If you can pay a small amount and end up with a copper account.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote

1) You won't get ripped off by Theymos
2) It looks super-cool
3) It gives you the functionality of a member account
4) Can choose your own username

I have been over on the Goods board and notice someone selling 71 BCT accounts of various levels.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/wts-btctalk-accounts-21-lbc-accounts-1-paxful-accounts-6-4713948

We all know it is frowned upon but not illegal but sometimes for whatever reason people want or need
to leave this forum or indeed want to liquidate their account because they do have a value for collecting
bounties.

So I was thinking would it be possible to implement a TEMPORARY restriction of some sort on a bought
account to prove the new owner is worthy in some ways.

Would we be opening the floodgates for buying, selling and swapping accounts?

Just a thought
