Hello everyone ,

So I am in Algeria and I am trying to buy Bitcoin in my country , since we don't have credit cards or debit cards ( yes we don't have that it's a 3rd world country ) I am blocked at this step .

I don't have a Credit Card or debit card so I can't buy from crypto exchanges , and most of sellers ( Instagram pages ) are scammers that don't even know what a Bitcoin is ( btw I talked to an Instagram page he was like Bitcoin is pretty expensive it's 30$ LOOOOL )

So I am trying to find Algerians who could sell me Bitcoin , or anyone who has a solution I would love it .

Thank you for reading this.
Pretty weird situation you are in, but I am guessing that even without a credit card, you could pay for online purchase one way or another through a digital wallet yes?

Check if Binance is not allowed within your country, if it is. Hop in, have yourself be verified such that it allows you to withdraw and deposit money, and then try P2P. Binance's got the safest P2P system out of every exchange out there cause they literally give you back the funds in no time soon as you report the person to be a scammer. In any case, try that. You should have a couple other people within your country or the next who could sell your bitcoin in exchange for your local currency.

I wouldn't suggest going to any other exchange nor "avenues of buying and selling cryptocurrencies" since this world's full of scammers at the bottom who would love to feed off of the scraps of the people who don't know better. Stick to a single option, like binance, no one's gonna hate you for it anyway.

As OP said, his country bans bitcoin so there will be no officially and legally operating exchanges. But according to my research and many others, he can access and use the majority of CEX and DEX exchanges without any difficulty. So I also suggested him to use Binance instead of trying to use P2P or any other exchange. Many people will not like this advice because Binance is a centralized exchange but I think for a beginner like OP, Binance will be a safer choice than any other solution.

Also, OP doesn't seem to have too much basic knowledge about bitcoin and the market yet, I think he should spend time cultivating more knowledge about it before continuing his investment journey.

This means that OP needs to keep his dealings with bitcoin secret and not to allow his children or lousy relatives and friends to know that he own bitcoin if not he will get himself into trouble for violating the law.

I lived in a country where bitcoin was illegal and I was still buying and selling bitcoin via p2p trade, but we don't tell anyone that we are into bitcoin and that has become part of me currently because now it is is legalized I don't allow untrusted people to know that I am into bitcoin.
Now it's easy to keep the transaction a secret because every purchase does not require a third party. No need to talk to anyone about the investment that is lived and he is enough to behave as usual. It is not easy to run investment if the state does not allow Bitcoin or Crypto but he can do it secretly. As most people say that being anonymous can actually protect the investment that is said to run in Bitcoin.

You part of the example because in your country Bitcoin is banned but the interest and desire to continue to invest makes you take that step. For him to be able to take steps like you did so that he can continue to invest even if the country forbids. Just how he tried to keep it a secret and did not talk to anyone about the investment he was running.

If bitcoin is illegal in your country then that means you have to be careful enough in buying so that you don't get involved in the law. But if you are interested in bitcoin then you should be able to check some reputable exchanges and they provide P2P services as a step that you can take advantage of. What is the consideration regarding the legality of bitcoin in your country and that should be the focus so that you don't get into trouble. Buying anonymously is an option so that you don't get into trouble with the law and that should be a priority that you need to consider.

Bitcoin can be bought even though the country where we live completely prohibits it, but sometimes we also have to think about the consequences. Don't spread information everywhere regarding your interest in bitcoin because it can endanger you and try to invest in bitcoin only you yourself know.

Well apart from the fact that Bitcoin is restricted, I really don't like talking about Bitcoin on a general sense because it ease and save you from so much unnecessary and unwanted query from people too. By now I think the Op might have solved the issue as the advice of P2P was and  still the most famous way in which one can get his hands on Bitcoin easily even in a country like his.

I dont think we need to remind or emphasize that too many times to the OP because I'm sure he's from a country that bans bitcoin , he knows his country's laws better than any of us , but if he's still determined to invest in bitcoin , hes certainly prepared for it. What he wanted to know was how to buy bitcoin and avoid getting scammed , and it showed that he was quite careful in his investment journey.

And as we can see a lot of members suggested him different ways to buy bitcoin in his country so I hope he chose the method that suits him best . I also tried searching on google and found that buying bitcoin from op 's country is not as difficult as he thought .

This is by far the best solution.
Try selling something you are good at and be paid in bitcoin.
If you succeed in doing so, both legs of your trade will be online, and your government will have problems.
You can try to sell local crafts online.
Carpets, or pottery.
You could partner with a local shop to enable him to sell online for bitcoin.
Win win solution for everybody.
E-commerce is favorite target of governments and their tax ministries because this e-industry is huge and can provide massive tax income for governments. They will never want to miss this huge source of tax income for their governmental operations.

We can do Bitcoin transactions carefully, with full node, Tor connection, good picks on UTXOs for inputs, use change addresses and more careful practice but the minus point of e-commerce is you will have to do it digitally on a website. There are certainly traces from you and the receivers, your customers and addresses from and top in shipping process.

I am really doubtful that operating online shops in e-commerce space and with related shipping process, will be good for privacy and anonymity.

Based on the fact I don’t know anything on the Algerian situation, I know that exchanging bitcoin for fiat on a cex, kyc’d or not, is a single point of failure: when the cex hands over the data to the government (when, not if) they have a full history of transactions.
Setting up a small operation, with a website on a foreign server, with a node outside reach of the government, requires a “tailored” operation.

Just because your government bans bitcoin and cryptocurrencies doesn't mean you can't buy bitcoin on centralized exchanges like Binance, you just can't unless those exchanges don't support your country. These 2 things are completely different.
You can use centralized exchanges with or without KYC, decentralized exchanges, Peer to Peer marketplaces if the government does not ban these websites in your country.

But the bottom line is if government has a ban on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in your country, if you do anything that let them know you are exchanging fiat currency to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, I bet that you will be on their radar and likely receive not 'sweet, happy' punishment from government and bank that is under government control.

Help: A list of LocalBitcoin alternatives (P2P marketplaces)

Overall, there are many solutions for OP to buy bitcoins from his country, as long as he takes the time to learn about it, I believe he will find his own solution.

Regarding the government ban, if people strictly followed the law and did not invest in bitcoin just because of the government ban, I bet you that bitcoin would not be popular or even bitcoin would no longer exist for now. In the past, many countries banned bitcoin but most people ignored it and found ways to circumvent the law, people still find ways to quietly invest in bitcoin without being detected. I say this not to encourage people to break the law, we can circumvent the law as long as we don't harm anyone and investing in bitcoin doesn't endanger anyone. And to avoid causing trouble for himself, OP must be absolutely careful to avoid being discovered.

So maybe I did not precise it , but I want to stay anonymous because of my government , if they find out that I have Bitcoin I may face penalties because it is illegal here , so , I talked to some Algerian traders who bought USDT from Binance p2p platform then switched it to Bitcoin and did not have any problem with it , but still it is illegal and the government can pull up at any moment and I don't want to get jail time because I had some Bitcoins . I will try to find someone ready to sell me Bitcoin directly with cash and if I don't find one maybe I'll risk the p2p platform on binance because other Algerian traders did not have a problem with it
There must be a way to buy Bitcoin in your area with cash using p2p trading.
Try to find local bitcoin community in Algeria for more information, maybe they have telegram group for trading directly with someone cash for bitcoin.
Another option is to take a trip to Europe, Spain, or Morocco and Tunisia if they have easier access for buying Bitcoin.
You can also consider offering your services online to earn bitcoin directly.

Buying from people around can be risky at times because they would know the amount of Bitcoin you purchased and might even set you up to steal from you if they are that person. This is why you must do it yourself and buy from a centralized exchange. It is illegal in your country but not on these exchanges and it is good that there are no regulations or restrictions to P2P in your country right?

Always stay anonymous when dealing with Bitcoin and keep your investment out of the reach of third parties.

Bisq is big hope because that project is built up decentralized and no CEO, no centralized leadership.

With no CEO or central leadership team, Bisq stakeholders—traders and contributors—are the owners of Bisq.

Through social consensus (via voting) they determine Bisq's project strategy.
It will be harder for governments, DOJ to shut down, seize, sue Bisq when they don't know who is the CEO.

The forum is not created for trading or to be an exchange. There are child boards for exchanges, trading but it's not main purpose of the forum. The core purpose is a forum for discussion of ideas.

Yup, this is why I said it's the only safe bet for now. Even all the no KYC sites that HAVE a site are in risk. Shut the server down or block the ISP and its game over.

With Bisq, it's open source. You can't shut it down unless you find all the guys running the software. Even then they can just duplicate code and start Bisq 2.0 easily.

I do disagree about forum not for trading or exchange. Bitcoin is P2P. Trading P2P is a core part of Bitcoin, I think the economy section is so important.

Then P2P it is. And as I said in my earlier post, you can do Remitano, or Noone and @Juliet suggested but eventually all of these platforms hold your information and trust me they will go for KYC down the line. It happened to Localbitcoin it will happen to all centralized P2P.

It is your possible choice now but how will it be in future?

DOJ will only expand their targets and no CEO of any platform wants to face jail by guilty of failure in AML.

The US can crack down private exchanges as much as they want but I believe more of them will just show up over time like how haveno did when agoradesk winded down. The devs have also taken an approach to hide their identities. In addition, the heavy privacy oriented exchanges typically don't boom hence less chances to be targeted -- US typically go for the big dogs.

If I am not wrong user can still buy up to 1000 Euros with email verification which is lowest possible tier on Paxful but not really sure since I got verified up to unlimited trading limit cause I trade from time to time crypto to fiat and vice versa from the ages of LBC and when they shut down I switched to Paxful.

They must have changed it as I don't see it anymore on their help center, see: https://support.paxful.com/support/solutions/articles/150000104290-limits-and-verification

I saw this being suggested but any chance you have missed it? see: https://kycnot.me/?t=exchange&q=&fiat=on

I'm not sure if you locale has decent volume though. I would suggest getting a global payment method whenever you can -- you might take a hit on conversion fees though.

Not Your Keys, Not Your Bitcoin
Hello everyone ,

Thank you for reading this.

My jaw drop with your post. You mean there is not Debit card in algeria, in all of the banks available in algeria? Damnn, this is too bad. There should be alternative for sure, you can't just be like without access to debit card, that's worse than staying in the village where there is no internet.

I'm not sure if this going to work but first you should comfirm if this is going to work in your country. UBA bank is available across most of the African countries and you can send money within and outside of the country and it can go. So, if you have a person who is from Nigeria, you can check the merchant and tell them you want to use UBA to UBA transaction, a reasonable merchant will accept and if they don't, I'm available to help but first contact your bank if UBA to UBA algeria transaction will go through instantly without any delay, then we can proceed from there.

Bitcoin = Financial freedom
That's a good point! though in case of paxful, KYC is mandatory and they can also pull out logs of whatever information they got from their users.

All users must process email, phone, and ID verification before they can use their wallets and start trading on our platform.

I guess they changed their kyc policy recently? IIRC, they used to have some countries with no mandatory kyc. I could be wrong though lol

I would suggest you to go with paxful Algeria where not much of active offers are available but I can see some decent trading volume so if you have bank account you can buy from them and it's going to be expensive than the market price for sure like 5-10%.
Paxful had to change after DOJ knocked their doors.

Paxful got CEO change in 2023 and some days ago, they got a suit from DOJ.

Paxful co-founder Schaback faces 5 years jail, admits AML failure

TBH, if crypto was banned in my place, I don't think I would risk it with centralized exchanges

Even though they had issues with CEO resigning and creating a copycat called Noones still I am using it with no issues at all so you don't have to worry regarding that but also I don't keep much funds left in their wallet as precautionary measure.

Use Remitano. It works in Asia and I see it accepts Algerian dinar.
Remitano requires KYC and it's fine only if you are ready with KYC.

If you dislike KYC and are not ready to submit documents for KYC, choose non KYC platforms like Noones. Noones is like a split brand from Paxful and it focuses on Global South and Algeria belongs to Africa continent.

https://noones.com/

Yeah but OP needs an option to buy in Algeria, he didn't say anything about KYC. Don't think that's his problem. BTW, all P2P except Bisq is gonna eventually go for KYC, even HodlHodl. Noones looks nice but if it doesn't have its own software, it's gonna go down KYC route some day trust me.

Anyway I suggested Remitano because I use it (also like you said for Noones focus on South), and when I checked, it had Algerian dollars listed. Noones looks like it has a lot too Smiley

So I am in Algeria and I am trying to buy Bitcoin in my country
Bitcoin is for everyone but to avoid legal problems with government, you need to check legality status of Bitcoin in your country.

Some world maps for Bitcoiners with several websites for Bitcoin Legality Map.
https://newhedge.io/terminal/bitcoin/legality-map
https://coin.dance/poli/legality
https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/programs/geoeconomics-center/cryptoregulationtracker/

According to these maps, Bitcoin is Illegal in your nation so you need to be more careful with any further steps. You can use no KYC exchanges to purchase or sell bitcoin but in a country with Illegal status for Bitcoin, it's more risky than in other nations.
https://kycnot.me/

Hello ,

So joined some Algerian crypto forums they said to me you can buy USDT from binance using the p2p platform but having to be careful , not a lot of people had problems with it but we never know on who the government will strike .

It's not a must that you make use of your credit card in getting bitcoin, there are other means through which we can have bitcoin, make use of the p2p platforms to do this, such could be an exchange or you can make engage the service of a physical bitcoin holder intending for an exchange service or get to contact some escrow service providers from from this forum who are also trusted, by this you could buy or invest.

So yesterday I checked how to buy Bitcoin using the p2p platform and yes I am able to do that ! there are some sellers on binance that will sell me ustd and I will just have to send them money with bank transfer , I will test this !

I thought Algeria had cards, not Visa or Mastercard but I'm very sure my friend used Revolut there.

I know lots of people P2P as mentioned who accept Revolut as payment to sell BTC, I am almost 100% sure you can find someone even if you just open Binance P2P (just open random account no need KYC and just browse offers and ask).

I'm Googling now and I can find a few.

Use Remitano. It works in Asia and I see it accepts Algerian dinar.

Yes we do have a card that only work in some websites that the government made , ( we do use some techniques to open revolut accounts , or wise bank account and put money in them to then buy with it ) but the card that out government made ( DAHABIA ) we are not able to use it on websites like binance.

It depends on one's risk appetite i guess. Some places can be lax when it comes to enforcing their laws though you'd be playing with chances.

Just checked and most North African countries including Algeria have criminalized buying, selling, or owning cryptocurrencies. This means if the government knows about your transactions you can face penalties. Although many exchanges still operate in your country I am not comfortable with you giving out your personal information because of KYC requirements. I doubt if there is an Algerian in this forum, I might also be wrong. But P2P on a decentralized exchange would have been a good option or you can check the exchange section of the forum. You can use an escrow service to buy from a trader on the forum. We have some reputable members who offer escrow services. If you convert your local currency to USD, you might find someone who will be willing to trade with you.

You can easily buy Bitcoins through Binance's P2P trade. No credit or debit card required. You may find your local payment method. What you need to do is first open an account on Binance and then verify the KYC with all the information including the phone number. Then you can go to the P2P trading section and purchase bitcoins. P2P trading seems the easiest way to me. You can try it.

Try checking on how did others manage to buy  Bitcoin in your area, for sure debit and credit cards are not the only way to do so. I am also living in a third world country but we do have access on other ways such as third party wallets that are partnered with exchangers which allows me to invest. As long as there are other people who managed to invest, then for sure things aren't restricted in your area and that there are other ways for you to check regarding this concern. Never settle for p2p on social media platforms. Exchangers are the best way and you just have to figure out what would work in your situation. I assume Bitcoin is banned from your country, but restriction varies I believe. Not supporting this technology is different from fully restricting its usage and the proof to this are some people in your country who have Bitcoin and other crypto holdings.

People suggested Binance p2p but it's risky cause you said it's banned so government can pull out logs from these trading platforms at any time so you are risk of facing legal charges.

I would suggest you to go with paxful Algeria where not much of active offers are available but I can see some decent trading volume so if you have bank account you can buy from them and it's going to be expensive than the market price for sure like 5-10%.
It is just to know actually what the Algerian government banned. Did they actually ban bitcoin jr transactions of cryptocurrency with their banks? This was the situation with my country Nigeria, many people thought that the government actually banned cryptocurrency but knowing that it was the transaction they banned. If bitcoin is banned in Algeria, you wouldn't see any exchange list their local currency. He should use a reputable exchange or create a trade thread, he will see someone interested from his locals.

TBH, if crypto was banned in my place, I don't think I would risk it with centralized exchanges unless it's no-kyc and has end to end encryption for their chats. It depends on one's risk appetite i guess. Some places can be lax when it comes to enforcing their laws though you'd be playing with chances.

am also from a third world country but we can purchase any crypto without the need of credit or debit card i am unfamiliar with the kind of payments you have in your country but we have multiple ones aside from a bank so it is relatively easy to purchase some crypto in a lot of exchanges

it will only be difficult if bitcoin is illegal in your country and in which case not a lot of people may be so willing to break a few rules with you

upon checking the local board here in the forum i do not think there is one for your country which i am guessing shows that there are not much bitcoin users in your country that will definitely make your purchasing of btc harder

Algeria not having a local board  on our forum does not mean there are no bitcoin users from OP's country. Our forum is the oldest bitcoin forum but it is not the largest nor does it represent any country. Bitcoin has become very popular and spread all over the world, buying bitcoin today has never been difficult, even in countries that ban bitcoin. What makes it difficult for someone to buy bitcoin is their lack of knowledge about bitcoin.

I just tried searching about being able to buy bitcoin from OP's country and I found this article, I don't find it difficult to buy bitcoin from Algeria even though bitcoin is banned there.

I stand with Ukraine!

As Oshosondy said, most centralized exchanges are usable from your country. And if you want to ensure your privacy then P2P is the solution but there is also a risk because the seller can reveal your identity and you will be in trouble because as you said, your government bans bitcoin. If you have difficulty finding direct bitcoin buyers and sellers, I think you should use centralized exchanges for more assurance.

As long as the banks in your country still operated and they can send money to international banks, you can buy Bitcoin. Or you can use centralized payment providers like Western Union, Wise, etc.

Binance exchange have your currency p2p trades that are from Algeria. Bitcoin is not fully banned in your country and citizens can trade bitcoin in your local currency.
This is a trap by Binance, they can accept Algerian because their regulation didn't ban Algeria, but Algeria's government ban Bitcoin. So, if @OP trade using Binance, Binance will make money, but @OP is taking risk to being jailed.

What should be said have been included on the previous posts. Register on Binance or OKX or Bybit. I have also checked Bybit now and I saw DZD which is the Algerian Dinar. I am seeing the currency on all the exchanges that I am checking. After you get verified on any of those exchanges, go to P2P and the currency would be DZD by default or you can change it to DZD. You will see many buy and sell DZD ads which you can click on to proceed to trade.
Oshosondy's description of how to use the P2P on Bianance, OKX, and ByBit, makes me to remember when the central bank in my country, Nigeria, issued out circular to the other banks to cease any transactions using debit cards or bank transfers. Well, we the residents of the country had to switch to using the P2P on these exchanges. And this is exactly what we did. Initially, it was uncomfortable because we were concerned about the security risks of doing transactions with a stranger but once we knew that the centralized platforms though not perfect had put things in place to reduce scams, we become comfortable with it. I know this story is the same both for us in Nigeria, Algeria, kenya and so many other countries where oppressive regimes against bitcoin still exists.

If bitcoin is not illegal in your country, you can buy bitcoin through Binance exchange using p2p trade. This is the uniqueness of bitcoin, it does not need a third party to carry out transactions for you. What you need is to use your bank account name to register on Binance and follow the procedures on KYC verification.
Which means bitcoin is only partially banned in Algeria. Also that it is possible that other exchanges will support Algerian Dinar P2P. I have just checked OKX and I saw Algerian Dinar (DZD) also there. I do not bother to check other exchanges because it would likely be there also.

Thank you I will try it !

Also if you have any tips for finding Algerian Bitcoin sellers I would like that , Thank you !
It is you that is in Algeria that should do that since we are from different countries. Oshosondi said it all, it is better you buy from an exchange because they have DZD p2p trade and it is very easy than this step you want to take. Binance exchange have your currency p2p trades that are from Algeria. Bitcoin is not fully banned in your country and citizens can trade bitcoin in your local currency.

You can still buy Bitcoin from Binance even though it is illegal in your country but you need to be very careful. Don't keep your coins in Binance after you have purchased your bitcoin, you shoukd transfer it to a noncustodial wallet like Electrum wallet or blue wallet because it is not safe to keep your coins in an exchange because you don't have control over your private key.
