Maybe you can reduce the Core frequencies to see the effect. Sometimes the voltages are too low, so the artifacts.

At least one site I found that actually had the BIOS files has the numbers mixed up for the 290 bios and the 290x BIOS versions - watch when you flash that you're flashing the RIGHT BIOS type, flashing a 290x BIOS on a 290 card CAN cause the issues you have seen.

The main difference between the versions, other than the 290/290x split, is the default voltage setpoint - the higher number versions undervolt more, and IN THEORY should reduce power consumption vs higher number versions - with the tradeoff being the potential that the card won't be able to clock as high.

EDIT: I have expanded 6 more rigs. 26 Power Color 380x, 5 Sapphire 290, 3 Power Color 390, 1 XFX 390x, 1 VisionTech 390 for a total 36 cards. So I hope that ETH stays good until ROI atleat but i feel that looking back at history there will be something to mine. Maybe not as profitable but good lord willing i will survive this.

Still waiting for this so-called DAO Fiasco to drive Ethereum under $10 - oh wait, it's climbing back UP again.

Buying new mining hardware isn't always dumb - if you have an exit plan or alternate uses for it, it's more about "paying part of the cost of it" as a bonus as opposed to "need to achieve ROI on it to make it worth buying".

I'm sure ETH diff will pass the growth in the price at some point - it's been pretty close over the last couple months - but it hasn't happened yet. Soon perhaps.

problem is this, the diff is still there while the price is almost halved

you can not simply cancel 50k gpu from existence...

I think it is better to wait and see what will happen to the Etheruem after this crisis. If the price does not rise, do not mine.

i have 6 380s and 2 290x. i love my 290x but they are so hot and loud. plus take a lot of power. One rig has a 270x and 3 380s. 73.5mh/sec 800 watts my two 290x are underclocked, undervolted (26mh/sec each) and still run 84C at a very loud 65% fan speed. My PCS 380x does 20.5mh/sec and you cant even hear the computer running. 72C

Also i game while i mine. my 290x loses 4mh/sec while gaming, i still get 95FPS. Just tried that on a 2gb 380. FPS stutters averaged around 50 but didnt feel like it. lost 16mh/sec
