If I wanted to buy a bunch, say a few hundred, what's the best/safest method?
Best and safest method to buy ltc? what a question, exchanges are created for buying and selling of all available crypto coins, ltc is a very old coin and its available on all 99percents of exchanges in crypto space, both centralized and dexs

By far the safest method which also provides a layer of anonymity since there is no KYC/sign-up/accounts is Blocknet's Block DX exchange.  The DX showcases pure atomic swaps directly from your core wallets which is the safest most decentralized method currently known to man.

Check it out as people review the orderbooks regularly looking for orders to take:

https://blocknet.co/
https://blocknet.co/block-dx/

Also, this DX is highly recommended for any parties out there looking to do planned OTC swaps vs something high risk like Escrow trades with admins overseeing the process.  There are over 100+ compatible coins on the DX so whatever you're trading is bound to be compatible.

If you tell us how much you are considering buying with BTC, we can respond more easily. If you are going to buy large amounts, it may be helpful to find a good OTC trading. But if situations like KYC and anonymity are important, you should find a place that makes a good atomic swap.

kinda depends where u are in the world, and what currency you have to buy the LTC with...

If you have BTC you want to trade for LTC... either http://www.vircurex.com or the dreaded btc-e.com Tongue

if you have cash in hand... then y not meet someone in person in ur local area and buy LTC off them? no exchange fees etc and u can have a beer and a chat with the person who has the LTC to sell... hey maybe even it turns out this is how u are supposed to meet the love of your life!! Fingers crossed for u!!

there are other options to but I have not done these myself so I will let someone else explain getting $ or £ into an exchange.

Thanks for the input  Smiley  I am located in Australia.  If any Aussies would like to chime in I'd love to hear from them too  Smiley
You can go to marketplace section and post a thread regarding how much you are willing to buy,but if the amount is high then possible chances to get an offer is less in bitcointalk so you might have to buy bitcoin from an exchange then convert it into litecoin.

Litecoin is a good choice to make small investments. Binance is a best platform to buy or coinbase is also safe. Not sure whether this would be the first choice for investments though.
Litecoin is still one good choice for altcoins. It's old but it's never been too old for investors that are looking for the best altcoins. Same as ethereum, you can have as many litecoins as you have depending on how much you want to invest.

If you want to invest an important amount of money, you should better opt vor Bitcoin, not Litecoin.
Bitcoin should be the first option but if someone already has it and just want to diversify his portfolio with another cryptocurrency, Litecoin is a good choice than other altcoins that we just see here and being suggested by a stranger.

Bitcoin has adoption and development going for it. Bitcoin owns crypto hashrate, security, basically impossible for reorgs/double spends.

Altcoins (like Litecoin) don't have nearly as much development and adoption. LTC is basically a code copy of BTC, with much less developers (if any? recently Charlie Lee basically said he's the only one)

While Litecoin might be good for a little gamble, Bitcoin is by far the best for long term future investment

I'll advise you buy from a reputable exchange with large volume and fast withdrawal processing speed. Binance, Kucoin, OKEX, HUOBI  are good picks, they are centralized exchanges with high reputation and great standard. Unless maybe you are looking for OTC means to buy, then check one in your zone.

If I wanted to buy a bunch, say a few hundred, what's the best/safest method?

Go to any exchange of your choice
Then you go and buy litecoin with usdt or btc or eth

A few hundred would make sense

The best safest means or method to buy lite coin is by visiting binance or kucoin
Get your btc or eth or usdt and exchange them for lite coin

Then you can hodl and trade on  as the profit show faces
