Bitcoin will come out of this a lot stronger that is for sure. For two reasons, first of all those weak scammy bad ICO coins that have been lurking around trying to worth something will die. Even the most idiotic idea had an ICO last year and they have all got funded like millions of dollars. Hopefully the weak hands of trying to sell bitcoin at any given time will be gone as well. Which means we got rid of two toxic things that always lurking around trying to drop the price. Also Craig lost a lot of bitcoin by selling and spending it on hash war, which means he probably has some more bitcoins but at least he sold a lot of it. This way we now that he doesn't have the ammunition he used to have, another good news for bitcoin. Next time there is a bull run, we won't have to deal with these stuff, which is healthier.

Many speculators are saying bitcoin will continue going down and this might last till end of next year but I think we should still be positive as there is no major reason for this falling then the way bitcoin went up last year.  Many of us that has been following this market understand that the way bitcoin went up last year was not expected but a surprise move.  I think we should not think that it will continue down and from this moment we may began to see another bull run.  I just sow a clam back to $4,000 this morning and that was over $300 gain from were it was yesterday.

when you want to start a new bitcoin obituary you either need to be a big guy (like Warren Buffet) so that you can simply bullshit about bitcoin's death or you have to have some sort of originality and a good imagination to come up with a well designed bullshit. otherwise you will only be a laughing stock Wink

in 2019 /2020 a world (mark) cryptocurrency will be in unveiled for all to use for buying and selling.
we are always hoping for a better cryptocurrency that has all the characteristics of bitcoin but works better. but so far we have only been promised "better" but seen "shit" instead.
and these things don't happen out of nowhere. there has to be some actual work on the way if we are to see a good cryptocurrncy be "unveiled". if you said in 2030 then your statement could have made sense because in 10 years a lot of things can change and it is more possible but in 2 yeas it simply is not going to happen.

watch and see...

Bitcoin is never ending story for next few years and those who think it will end are making the mistake of not making money during this period of time as market is down currently so easily people can buy at the best rates and sell off during the high when it will reach and make good money.

At least people aren't too sure now is the "best rates" to buy by spending all of their money. As you have said, the story never ends. Now that BTC is experiencing a tragedy stage (again) and whether it will get worse or less, how long this stage will end we don't know.

the problem is, how much ability do people have left with BTC in their hands following this story?

I like people who think critically but I don't like people who have thoughts too critical because it can make someone trapped in panic. just follow this storyline and still hold your bitcoin.

Bullish market is already concluded that it will not going to happen this year so hopefully by next year it will come again so for now  i suggest that we should be use to this current market cheapest value that we should consider this as the fresh start for all investors and move on.

People are definitely sheeps, especially the ones who do not know anything about what is happening in the market, they follow the herd, if people sell, they will panic and sell, they are the ones who are easy to deceive, the people who are easily fooled, however, you guys must open your eyes and READ, it doesn't mean that there's a link or someone saying that it will continue to fall doesn't mean that it will continuously fall, keep your heads up and don't act as if you're blind, know what to do and don't just follow what other people are doing.

I believe this is the 5th time bitcoin has been declared dead. Shocked  This is the time to buy, all these people are screaming, crying, and spreading fud.

This is similar to the 2014 crash but I don't think it will last as long because the market is more mature now and there is a lot more money on the line.

Well sell all that you own and put it all in bitcoin since you feel its the time to buy. BTC is going down its old, slow and uses too much electricity. What about that you don't understand? It was tied to Future trading so the elites can control it. They are going to crash it and roll out another crypto that will be used as a 1 world currency.

lol if you believe that go short it on bitmex with 100x leverage, you will become a millionaire if you are right.

In 2018, I think most people are not even considering this.

For years people have been talking about bitcoin dying but it won't die you can count on that. There is no
possible way bitcoin "dies" until the last person who has bitcoin shuts off their computer. Even when there is 1 single person in the network working to keep it up, bitcoin will always be alive. Bitcoin prices might have dropped recently but that doesn't mean it is any more dead than when it was alive during 20 thousand dollar peaks. Why do people keep believing the extremes will happen.

There were people who have bought bitcoin at 20 thousand dollar levels believing the price would keep going up and now there are people selling at these levels thinking it will go down further and even go as far as leaving the market. When it goes too high it drops, when it goes too low it goes up. Simple as that.

Tend to disagree...more money needs to get involved...and question is will regulation bring in more money? Maybe. Maybe not.

Pretty simple really. Non KYC places are being slowly executed or choosing to disappear or go KYC until there'll be nothing but KYC places left. And supposed decentralised exchanges are being hammered so that's now a dead end until true examples exist. You can't bring in more money if there's nowhere left to import it.

And KYC in no way stops you from withdrawing it. The first place that does do that won't last too long unless they're explicit about it from the off like Revolut or Etoro and they're rarely mentioned here.

Bitcoin survived 2011 and it survived 2014. What makes this time so different? It's a normal phenomenon for almost anything that it will go through cycles of bull and bear. It's the same with stocks, real estate etc. Bitcoin's time will come again, the question is not really if, it's just when.

This time around though we may be contending with a meltdown in the wider markets in which case things get a whole lot muddier. Bitcoin rose during an unbroken run upwards in everything. If that changes it could mean several differing outcomes.

Sure, I understand how the presents more difficulties this time around but those markets will also not stay in a downtrend forever. I don't believe that the world economy is currently ready to enter in to a recession, I think there will be a few more years first and for that reason I think that the financial markets (outside crypto) will recover fairly soon.

Whats different now:
1. China is OUT.
2. alts don't pump anymore. Like, at all, thanks to:
3. KYC fucking bs with exchanges. This means that:
4. crypto is no longer fun to play with.

We wouldn't have gotten the bubble we did if China was IN.

Alts went up so outrageously on such a stunningly empty basis that I'm amazed any of them are worth anything still.

When will you accept KYC as the next inevitable step to more people getting involved? It won't happen without it.

It'll be fun again. Not for a goodly while though.

Tend to disagree...more money needs to get involved...and question is will regulation bring in more money? Maybe. Maybe not.

From a newcomer's perspective, why buy crypto if you cannot own it? Any other asset class is like that, you can never truly own it. Crypto without KYC is a bearer instrument that you truly own, it cannot be taxed, seized or frozen.

If crypto is like a bank account, if tokens are like registered securities, why bother? And KYC hassle is also a huge, huge hurdle to a newcomer.

I bet there is a plan behind this regulation: make it harder to get into crypto!

I understand what you mean, regulation leading to more adoption, let's hope you are correct.

If it was the Bcash drama causing this decline, people would dump their BTC and park their funds in altcoins, which isn't happening. It's panic of the purest form that takes the price down. This is crypto. Welcome.

some altcoins are holding quite well. XRP for instance. its rise against BTC has mostly offset the crash in the BTC/USD market.

The bottom isn't what people think it will be, because remember, the market doesn't repeat if the mass expects it to repeat. The bottom will be known by the time we're going back up again.

People panic but don't realize how much of a buying opportunity these dumps are. I'm sure they'll get back in, but that will be on the way up, where they always find themselves enter the market at the wrong time.

true, it'll only be clear in hindsight. by the same token, it's hard to know exactly where the good buying opportunities lie. masterluc considers the long term trend intact until we touch the $1200 level and i think that has a pretty strong basis. lots of wiggle room there!

If that's the case, then longer hold will do not unless in need of fiat. Also, it's not like that forever. There will be a year that we're going to reach a new ATH soon after those down years. No matter what happen btc will always survive and regained the price just like before and we are going to wait for it again.

Riiiiight.

The beauty of this forum is that you can peer into the past where many posters of this calibre were screeching at people to dump all and forget everything forever as it was going to zero forever everever in the $600 and downwards region.

You may have noticed a wee uptick since then.

No one should be listening to anyone else be they psychobears or bubbleheaded bulls.
The problem with these people is that if they see the market is in bull run they tend to forget the same thing when it is a bearish market. Which is exactly the same and they can't accept the fact that it is happening, like wtf do we want? A continuous bull run where everyone could just sell and sooner we realize that there is no one would like to buy because the price is increasing and there is no profit from it.

Funny, what my old (80+) man said to me, while I was trying to explain to him what was happening, as I was oggling Coinigy. See, I had to start all the way back to what cryptocurrencies are, but he said:

"Doesn't matter, son: never sell when it's falling, never buy when it's climbing". Hehe, I wouldn't dare to disobey, would I ? So: buy and hodl !

PS: On second thought, I think he still has some of those 1917 Russian bonds...Hm.

Yeah, critical thinking is needed but also at the same time can't understand what it's respectability has to do with current situation? And to be fair people, who were writing "calm, don't look news, HODL" were 100% right. What was almost everyone saying on person who would say: bitcoin will reach 20K? You like me would call them crazy but seems opposite, they were absolutely right. One fall doesn't means everything will destroy. Just remember, bitcoin will always reach it's all time maximum price.

You posted this:
Bitcoin is old, outdated, slow and uses too much energy. The price will soon be brought down to a level where miners will abandon it. Prices will continue to be kept lower due to CME futures.

in your opinion bitcoin is: " Old, outdated, slow and uses too much energy ". and now that the price has dropped you have reasons to celebrate because with this price drop you can tell everyone that you are right, but the price of bitcoin will recover in the future, bitcoin are limited and when you have higher demand, the price will also increase a lot, that's a matter of being patient.

The BCash drama has as an impact on Bitcoin the moment they start extracting hashrate from Bitcoin to put it into the BCash fork, whatever it is (I think ABC in this case, the bastard scammer Roger Ver was allocating hashrate from Cloud Mining contracts in his Bitcoin dot com pool to mine the ABC scam).
Bitcoin tanked well below $6000 before they started stealing people's hashrate. Also, Bitcoin's hashrate at no point dropped below 40 exahash, which is also important to note.

If you look at Bitcoin's hashrate chart in the more recent weeks, it was bouncing between 40 to 60 exahashes continuously, which means that there is far more hashrate available than most people think.

Currently it dropped below 40 exahash because the price went down significantly, which makes sense considering that hashrate follows price in a healthy environment, and Bitcoin is healthy.

It seems that the absurdity of the past week "BCH fork" due to greed led to this decline and then altcoin dump could cause more losses in the short term "this week."
I expect that whatever happens $ 4,200 will be the bottom but things are not so bad "the price will recover quickly."

Oh come on, so bitcoin dropped >$1000 over the course of a few days--big fuckin' deal.  If I didn't know better (which I don't), I'd say you waddle like a duck but talk only like a bear.  You know what I'm talking about.

All these other shitcoins?  Bitcoin can basically do what any of them can.  Some may have a small advantage here and there, but if anything is going to get used in commerce as far as crypto goes, it's bitcoin.  Right now the market is just down, but it'll bounce back.  The stock market and precious metals markets have taken their lumps recently, too.
