Yes, I would assume you are correct. Also the splitter will divide the power coming from the PSU cable to each riser, so the splitter connector is where most of the load will be.

Perfect, thanks Vann. Ive got a single 1200w HP server psu which runs everything, the mobo has its own 8pin connector and pico psu running from a 6pin connector (adaptor cable takes a 6pin and splits it to 8pin EPS for mobo and barrel jack for pico).

Seeing as my cards are drawing max 75w im assuming most of it is from the dedicated 6pin on the card and not the riser.

Thanks very much for the reply and the link to the cable chart. The cables are phobya ones i bought quite cheaply and take a 16awg 6pin cable and split it into 2x 20awg 6pin cables.

Do you know if the cards draw most of there power through the riser or its dedicated cable socket?

It depends on the card. Some cards pull more from the PCI-E x16 slot than others, theoretically up to 75W which is the spec limit. From running a dual PSU setup, where all the risers are powered by the same PSU as the motherboard and the secondary PSU only powers the VGA power on the top of the cards, my RX 570/580's pull between 40-50 W from the risers and up to 90-140 W from the VGA power inputs each when dual mining. I would imagine that GTX 1060's should pull less from the riser, since they use much less power.

According to this wire capacity chart, 20 AWG can handle 8 A or 96 W over 12V. Risers supply up to 50W each through the x16 PCI-E slot, so I think 18 AWG wire which can handle 10 A or 120 W would be a better choice.

I run all my risers using these PCI-E 8-pin to dual 6+2 pin 18 AWG splitter cables. Very good quality and i've had no problems.

So im trying to tidy up some cables. Currently i have 5x 1060’s 6GB each woth its own 6pin connector and each riser with its own 6pin connector. I would like to run two risers from one 6pin cable (each card will still have its own 6pin cable). The splitter cables I have are unfortunately 20awg. Each card is only drawing about 75watts.

Reckon this will be ok? Ive googled etc but no table gives a rating for 12v.
