I have been throwing around the idea of creating a live ticker of the bitcoin price based on the price of merchandise being sold for bitcoins. Basically, the idea is to compare an item being sold in the bitcoin community to an equivalent item in an Amazon, E-bay, or Google Shopping.

I think such a ticker could potentially be enormously beneficial to bitcoin. Prices based off of it would be more stable, because the inherent value of merchandise does not vary.

With my database from Search Bitcoin, I am in a great position to create such a ticker. That said, such an undertaking would require a lot of work.

I am wondering if people think it is a good or bad idea before attempting to start it. It could be completely useless to people, and my time better spent elsewhere.

I am also open to anyone who might want to help, provided they are really good at programming.

P.S. The idea is not even mine, but is from a post by ryepdx's (link).
