First of all must learn the language so can work there and understand what's happening there, but learning laws and language of one country means in some way to learn the culture of living there, respecting laws. In Switzerland in some buildings is not allowed to shower between 10pm and 5am. So if you want to live there you must act according their laws and rules so you ll learn culture of life there. Nobody ask them to go on rock concerts, go in bars,pubs, read Shakespeare but to accept basic and common way of living

Better would be: don't know english don't come..if we speak about people from non EU countries looking for job in UK, one of the first thing you must is that you know English language and on upper level..It's horrible that you deal with people living there without knowing language, and they sholuld be deported..The mistake was that they were allowed to enter UK without knowing the language. So deport them and also make a new law: if you do not know english don't try to come, you won't be allowed to stay

I disagree, it's important to be able to talk the language of the country you emmigrate too. Doesn't mean you shouldn't talk your native language, but it's important to know the one of your new home. Simply because it helps on everything, integration, administrative papers, education of next generations...

On the other hand when they are trying to attract more voters they are doing good things to society too. The PM talks about "poor English", but how do you define it? Some teenage girls who left for Syria were going to school, and they fully understand the language.

Perhaps that is the reason why the Muslim men don't want their women to learn English. In Muslim societies, cases of Muslim men marrying non-Muslim women are very common. In other cases, married Muslim men keep non-Muslim mistresses or concubines in addition to his Muslim wives (especially in Saudi Arabia, Sudan.etc).

The Muslim men want their women suppressed and not able to take classes to learn English, which would keep them from advancing intellectually and acculturating into English culture. If they don't want their women to acculturate, then don't leave your countries.

As usual, the left-wing loonies of the Washington Post has exaggerated what Cameron said. It would be a good idea to deport all these illiterate immigrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh back to their native nations. But I don't know how practical is that. Even hardcore criminals from these countries have avoided deportation, by claiming that their home countries are not safe to return.

I'm learning Japanese myself so that I can hopefully live properly in Japan one day, so yeah, if you're going to live in a country long term you should learn the language. I don't agree that for most non-violent cultures it's such a problem though that it needs to be a blanket requirement because let's face it, we've got quite a few Poles that have immigrated over here to the UK and they cause absolutely no trouble at all you never hear about problems from others either
