So what's the take of using this site because it would seem to me this would be contrary to the whole concept of Bitcoin. The site says it is going to obey the laws of Georgia which means it has to keep all transfer records, apply for and be licensed as a MSB, comply with Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and display that they are Licensed by the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance.

why is this contrary to the concept of Bitcoin?

it's a convenience - and one that we will pay for if we deem it valuable.

there's nothing about Bitcoin that says you have to be anonymous to use it in an ethical manner.  it's about choice.  if you want anonymity and are willing to jump through those hoops, you can have it - but not through USD transfers from any of the exchanges.

in the meantime, as i mentioned on another thread, i want boring, staid, and everything all tied up in legal niceties where a proper exchange is concerned.  it makes me more secure.

and i note that - again, with any of the exchanges - you can trade to your heart's content and remain completely anonymous.  as long as you take your profits out in Bitcoin.

Since I do not see the required posting that they are licensed by the State of Georgia to act as a money transfer agent it seems to me they are skirting the laws of the State of Georgia. I mean they may have found an attorney that said they don't have to but...

And for anyone who is going to say they are not a money transfer agent Georgia has already answered what it considers to be such a business:

"Money transmission." Money transmission means engaging in the business of receiving money for transmission or transmitting money within the United States or to locations abroad by any and all means including, but not limited to, an order, wire, facsimile, or electronic transfer.

"Monetary value." The definition of "money" has been expanded to reflect the fact that certain payment service providers employ a form of value that is not directly redeemable in money, but nevertheless (1) serves as a medium of exchange and (2) places the customer at risk of the provider's insolvency while the medium is outstanding.

Just signed up, but sad to see no support at all what so ever for EU customers.  Angry

True, but it was already advertised as a US-only exchange.

does anyone know the factual launch time (UTC preferred, but any timezone will do)?

The HTML source seems to imply 2011-07-05 @ 09:00

Code:
   27

Since the timezone is not given, the countdown script assumes UTC (which is obviously wrong).  Now, if one assumes Atlanta, Georgia, that would be 2011-07-05 @ 13:00 UTC.

although i do recall reading on the testnet that they were US only.  not sure.

I understood that they were going to cater primarily for US citizens in that there would be no Euro transfers or ‘foreign’ currencies, but I might have misunderstood the message…

i note they've taken down their testnet.

as far as non-US times, that's kind of strange.  although i do recall reading on the testnet that they were US only.  not sure.

reckon we'll find out...

So now that one obviously cannot rely on the information shown on the website, does anyone know the factual launch time (UTC preferred, but any timezone will do)?

And just wondering:  If the Camp BX developers cannot handle a relatively simple thing like timezones, how will they be able to handle more complex matters?

i've got 6 hours and some minutes to go.

clear your cache?

I've Shift-reload'ed and tried different browsers — even one that starts with a clean slate each time — and all I get is zeroes.

My best guess is that the Camp BX developers don't know how to account for DST (or non-US times)…

I also get all zeros in Chrome, IE, FF and Safari Opera.

Not a cache issue.

That reminds me, I gotta install Safari.

It's now more than 10 minutes past the expected opening time for Camp BX, and all I get is this:

Does anyone have information?
