I want to know if a merit given to a post can be reverse or revoke. May be if somebody give me a merit can the person take the merit back if he thinks the post don't deserve it.
OP, please lock the topic.
You have the answer, and it's better to lock the topic, before spammers come here and make it a spam megathread. Every newbie will be happy to post you a one liner just to increase their activity count...

The rules said no such thing such as demerit--- and the amazing fact is that when you give your merit or when you received a merit there is no way to take it back!

No you can't reverse merit after send to other. I think it should not be implement. Because it will be increase merit abuse. During send merit you can see your merit status how many you have and how many you want to send. Just need be careful. So that you will not need to return it. You are sending merit on post, not a person. If post is quality then you can send merit. If user spam on other post it's not your responsibility to check. And you are not going to send merit on spam post. I feel merit system working fine now. Currently I don't think it should be change.

Thats exactly what some shitposters are having wet dreams about.  Roll Eyes
Yep, but fortunately shitposters are still having, along side those masturbatory fantasies, an extremely hard time earning or mistakenly getting merits.  This is a good thing and makes me happy.  What doesn't is that they're still shitposting away as if the merit system didn't exist.  The consolation for me is that the merit system inhibits them from earning as much as they could from signature campaigns, so that they're not rewarded even more for shitposting.

Anyway, I don't know who designed the merit system (I assume it was Theymos), but it is pretty brilliant.  My opinion of Theymos is that his priorities regarding bitcointalk are heavily influenced by the money made from the traffic generated by shitposters.  He tends to ignore simple solutions to the level of spam here with reasons I don't fully agree with--which I accept, since it's not my forum.  However, I think the merit system was necessary and really well-designed, and I respect him for implementing it.

One of the best things about it is that you can't retract merits, and they don't expire.  I think I would like the system a little less if they could.  It would make it unnecessarily complicated and would probably provide more opportunities for abuse.

So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)

Merit cannot be taken back. This also keeps in check any possible merit farming rings that may start.

But on a second thought this might be a good thing to implement in future because there can be accidental merit award happening by people who are in a rush or simply by accident. Then again the cons are outweighing the pros.

They are all right, you can't reclaim a merit/s once it has been given to someone. Look at one of sir Vod's post as an example: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.40823682 . So if you are the receiver of the merit not intended for you then cheers, you're a lucky one Grin.

Try to send a merit on your post and see what happens next. The obvious answer to this is no the system won't let you send merits to your own post. If everyone is allowed to send merits to themselves, then the merit system would become pointless.

As stated above its not possible. Discussions going on about a system to demerit people (dMerits eg.), but I dont think that this will be implemented in the near future.

If you tried giving merit to people's post out of curiosity, there's actually a message before you send any number of merits. Saying: "This cannot be undone!"
