The question is mostly focusing on the how.
How can a skilled engineer make money in bitcointalk?

I'd like to think that trying to launch yet-another-coin is saturated.
Any ideas?
Not just skilled engineer but also normal people can make money in bitcointalk by joining in Bounty or airdrop. that's kinda good way to start with bitcointalk.

Since you have some coding skills, you can earn through working for another start up, ICO or not. Most of those projects that might catch your interest are on Project Development and Services. If you have that skill, it's easy for you to look for a company to work with full time/part time.

About your idea of creating new coin, I don't have something to say with. You have the skill and it may be easy for you but it will take a lot of your time but with your condition, it's unlikely.

Thank you all very much for your time and constructive information.
Some of you, said, and are I guess right, to say that I'm not sharing enough details in my question.

Thing is that, I'm usually quite good in thinking and delivering but I wouldn't want to self-advertise too much and sound like I brag, and ultimately developers are hard to assess and judged mostly by result. I work in a startup, have written C++, Node.JS, GPU code (mods to OpenCL mining code too), and I have ideas, but I either see them implemented, or they are too hard to just start implementing.

I wanted to get some pointers, and I've got quite a few.

An ICO is something I'd like, by doing something useful too, but I'd rather go somewhere where it's not already stepped, or join a group.

One idea of mine:

I want to create a decentralized coin that consumes so little disk space that a full node can even run in a mobile phone.
This is not just fantasy: I've read quite a few papers and I'm aiming at dropping full history by using hashes (edited: not checkpoints, as it should be purely decentralized), and cleverly sharding states, with Merkle queries, and with a possible trade-off in security, (regarding long-range-attacks, but which is not an actual trade-off, if I can mitigate the way I think I can).

But this is all a little overwhelming, my time and energy (as stated) are not entirely optimal at this point.

Generally, I'm thinking how I can contribute with something useful rather than dig for gold, but this is not always easy.

Collaborative projects may be easier to handle, or bounties, or jobs.

But, yes, one potential goal of mine is to be able to earn competitively, so that I can leave the classical industry behind and work for decentralized / bitcoin projects, which I consider more fun!

A skilled engineer would be - to some - somewhat valuable especially if you have a computer-related degree and a mathematical background.
If I knew that it would pay off I would sure launch a coin/token, because it's the sane thing to do, but I don't know and I suspect that it has risk to mitigate.
There isn’t really a lack of computer engineers. A degree, being important in many cases, does not give an indication as to the real capabilities of the person. I’ve had teams of engineers that were slow learners, and could often not think out of the box and engage with proactivity technical issues, let alone be able to venture the functional plane nor the business side of things. Having those capabilities is a real plus.

ICO related tokens have paid off for many, but at the cost of the investors who have grown rather tired of being scammed or getting poor results of their investments. Everything has been over-tokenized, from coffee to pot, dental trade, Presidents, hamburgers, etc. You name it, and someone has given it a go. Sure there are legit ICOs, but the essence it to create an infrastructure, product or service that really requires token/blockchain as a base for it to work, and not a fancy way to raise cash out of the blue.

@OP you can use your skills to make money in crypto either in bitcointalk or in other social platforms. You can also start a service where you offer them a work that skilled engineers can do and they will pay you. It's like creating signature for those who start ICO and have their own token or coin.

Any ideas?

So you'd like to start a business that makes you money and expect people give you ideas on that will that business do.
Sorry if it sounds harsh, but maybe you understand better now your situation.

Then you didn't even state clearly what you are good at. You know, engineers can fix some hardware, can build space ships, can code if they are software engineers and so on. And there are plenty of engineers that have a diploma and they don't know to do anything.

There are plenty of skilled people around here. Some do ask specific questions to have a chance for specific answers. Some just think for themselves and come out with interesting ideas, from a new wallet or block explorer to ideas on how to make payment systems/devices that can accept Bitcoin in shops.

Bitcointalk is a forum where people discuss (mostly) cryptocurrency related topics. The ways to make money on a forum are rather limited and the skills may fade against age, free time, willingness to learn and help others.
If you are indeed skilled, you should better use the forum only to learn more about crypto, discuss your ideas and maybe even get new ideas (but that'll happen when you'll learn to give out more details and ask more specific questions) instead of wasting time trying to "make money" in ways your skills won't matter. If you are indeed skilled you have a better chance to do something related to crypto, but not necessarily "in" bitcointalk.

Even a janitor can make money in bitcointalk, if he/she knows enough about bitcoin. Your profession is likely to not matter especially if you have a non computer-related degree.

I'd like to think that trying to launch yet-another-coin is saturated.
So you're planning on making money by launching a coin/token? LOL. As if we didn't have enough cashgrabs already.

I guess what @mjglqw wanted to convey is that this forum is open for everyone regardless of what skilled you got. Everything from crypto trading to offering your services here have risk. Someone suggested about bounty campaigns, but its really up to you whether you wanted to go that course right away or just stay on the forum and learn about crypto in general before making a jump on trying to earn in this community. For starters you may want to visit this thread: 100 Ways To Earn Bitcoin

i think he wants to earn with his skills then he can earn a lots, not by simple ways like all people can do but in small amount.

Well, if that's the case, then OP should be the one to answer his question. We don't know how good or bad he is with his skills, and we don't even know what kind of engineering OP knows to start with. So, yeah.

Also, if OP's engineering skills are sort of computer related, then OP's best bet is to build something instead, as OgNasty stated.

engineer is good at mathematic and i think some projects need people like this. you can join projects which have hardware building and machines. they can be bitcoin atm, robots, mining hardware, flying devices, location services.

Yes you can. But of course a person should have some knowledge about crypto (obviously).

State what you can do. State how can you be an asset of the company. State everything that will increase your impression.

But finding a crypto related work here in forum for that field requires patience because you are the one who must hunt for it.

How can it be done without too much risk?

We could assume that the engineer has good traits, but then again, launching something requires a set of other skills, like marketing, peoples skills etc.

How can you make money using bitcointalk?

You can search for bounties and participate them. Or else you can introduce your own coin with a wel planed project. Or you can invest on coins. That's how you can earn money as per my knowledge.  Smiley

Build use cases for Bitcoin, or showcase your previous creations and let someone pay you to build theirs.
