Thanks for the note.

I wonder what hardware was being used to mine scrypt coins back when they were in vogue...?

In other words, what gpu's were (are) considered to be efficient for scrypt mining...

Thanks!

The GPUs that were useful for mining scrypt coins can no longer compete... They are too slow compared to the ASIC's to mine anything and produce much.

It's like you are digging a basement with a spoon, and an asic miner is a fleet of backhoes.  They will do more in an hour than you can do in a year.

Xtreme Monster
rx 560 for novice cause you can learn how to mod bios and other things, nvidia is really plug and play, amd is hard work, so you need to learn the hard and then see if you stay with hard work or move to nvidia or asics.

Also don't forget you may be able to pick up some mid-range graphics cards for cheap, even a generation older, for half the price on craigslist, offerup, etc! Smiley

Bitcoin FTW!
Scrypt? You're going to make pennies a month mining with any non-ASIC device on a Scrypt coin. GTX 1050s do pretty well in most algos if you can find them at near MSRP and you'll be able to make reasonable ROI with them. There's not really many choices for cards at that price point anymore, especially with GPU prices rising once again. Pretty much any modern GPU will work at the right price. It just depends what you're able to get used.

If you're looking to accumulate just a few coins buying them straight up may also be a good idea. Foolproof and easy.

Hello everyone.

Can anybody recommend a few economical GPU's that I might look for in the USD$100-$175 range that would be suitable for a beginner's single GPU setup?

A new model would be fine, but even a used older model would be ok with me. I just want to experiment with solo mining some scrypt and neoscrypt coins.

I'm more interested in collecting a few coins rather than in making a profit. That's why solo mining appeals to me.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!
