It's a Nusra or other minor groups that are backed by CCG I think

Neither the United States, or its allies (esp. Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel, and Qatar) supports the ISIS openly. But they are having tacit understandings with the ISIS, as evident from Israeli air strikes against Syrian army positions to support the ISIS advance. Also, a large part of the weapons and funds which they send to groups such as Al Nusra, actually ends up with the ISIS.

Syrian civil war: Can Assad's regime survive the onslaught from Isis and Jabhat al-Nusra?

The Syrian army is faltering in the face of determined onslaughts by extremists who have no fear of death. But it may be the only institution that can keep the nation intact

I am sceptical. Assad isnt alone, his secular government (which actually protects women and minorities) is backed by Iran, China, Lebanon and Russia. However, ISIS is backed openly or not by Israel, Saudis and Turkey - largest allies of US in the region, who have far more resources on the ground.

I think the only thing America need to defeat ISIS is to stop supporting Syrian oposition and start supporting Assad instead. And then he can do all the work by himself. ISIS will fall. Couse its better to be Assad than ISIS.

That is not going to happen, and this was discussed here many times before. For the United States and its allies (especially the triumvirate of Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey), Assad is the mortal enemy. For them, ISIS is more preferable to Assad. Well.. they'd prefer the FSA replacing Assad... but chances are very low for that to happen. So for now, they'll support the ISIS.

Considedring that Al Nusra and ISIS are fighting each other, and considering the huge support from Iran to ASSAD it would be hard to push him out.

The other thing is that no one wants ISIS to take over Syria, which makes this situation even more complex

Agreed. I think US should be more involved in this situation. Nobody wants ISIS to take over anything

How involved? Will you start bombing your allies in Tel Aviv, Instanbul and Ryaad?  Smiley No? Then the best thing you can do is to actually listen to Obama and stay away, while I dont suspect US goverment of directly aiding ISIS, its close allies do.

I don't think that he'll be able to survive. The ISIS is bringing in new recruits from all around the world, to replace their dead, wounded and captured fighters. On the other hand, Assad's recruitment pool is shrinking, and he can't bring in the foreign fighters from abroad. It is only a matter of time before the ISIS defeats Assad.
