I got my username changed a while ago just making a thread requesting that someone change it. So you may be on the right track.

Just a guess, but you'd probably have to have a moderator do that for you manually. There's not going to be any "option" that you could select that would let you do this. Might want to PM one, and tell them why and what you want it to be.
