There are 2 main alternative methods you can make use of to get the balance of the wallet. To start with, if you have the seed phrase or private keys to the wallet you can access the wallet via the keys and proceed to going through the transaction history and balances of the wallet.

Like I said up there with the OP definitely saying he has the address then to me there is no need for the seed phrase or private key. The keys will even require him to prephend to the actual and address also adding the security implications on importing seed phrase and private keys then OP should just import the particular address on any of the wallet or explorer.

It's always better for privacy if you check your address balance, wallet balance with your own wallet. Better with VPN or Tor connection and your full node.

When you check your address with block explorers, you depend on their care on your data and privacy, so it's not recommended.

There is no better privacy than using your own full node as you said. But we all know that it comes with the conditions of having to download and store 500GB plus data now. For just address check I think that will be too much for the OP except he prefers to run the full node beyond today. My suggestion is for him to use SPV wallet like electrum suggested above to run this

You can use bitinfocharts.com and their block explorer filter to check transaction history of an address with customized time.

The following link is a transaction history of a random address I take from a Bitcoin block explorer.

If you don't want to see dust transactions, use nodusting at the end. The dust transaction here is defined as <$100 transaction and $100 is not a dust with many people.

I have the balance the day before May 30, 2023 or a month later. This way, you can check the address locally, without any block explorer knowing.

Alternatively, if you don't have the seed phrase or keys to access the wallet you could paste that particular wallet on and legit Bitcoin block explorer like , block chain.info , block chair and even the Mempool space, or any other block chain explorer depending on the one you prefer the most. That will be able to give you every transaction ever done with that wallet address including the respective time stamps.

BitInfoCharts.com is another helpful site for looking back in time at bitcoin balances and transactions.  They have got historical data and charts, even if you cant directly search for a specific address's balance on a precise date.  Tracing transactions in and out of an address alongside balances in BTC and USD at those moments works nicely for estimates of profit from price changes on addresses.  I like peeking at their visuals to get a rough sense of how my buys are faring over stretches of time.

I don't  think there's a need of too much stress since you only want know the balance as at last year just  use a block explorer
Like https://mempool.space/ or https://blockchair.com/ as it has been mentioned...

Just search the address and you will be able to see the timestamp below or above every transaction made

In case you want to use Electrum for watch-only wallet and see the transactions time, after you name your wallet, click on 'import bitcoin addresses or private keys' and paste the private key in this format:

I don’t know how OP has been using this wallet in the past, if at all this is cold wallet there is no need for him to even import the private key since his aim is just to look for a particular transaction on a certain address. My advice is for him to just import the address alone as a watch only wallet and not risk the private key into an online device that could be corrupted
Do not mind that post, I am kind of out of my mind this night. I was referring him to paste the address and not private key. This is a watch-only wallet and nothing else.

He should name the wallet and click on 'import bitcoin addresses or private keys' and paste the address.

Like the above said use Electrum there is a tool on Electrum that can filter them from that date and check the summary to check the total balance of that wallet at that time.

Here's the reference below to make it clear then enable filter date.

In addition to what suggested above by Charles-Tim, you can use mempool.space.
Mempool.space displays the balance history of any address in a chart and that makes it easy to know the balance of any address at any time.

Download Electrum wallet and import the address into electrum wallet and go to history tab.

Or you can use bitcoin explorer like https://blockchair.com/ or https://www.blockchain.com/explorer for it.
