My latest efforts:

Installed latest ubuntu along with my windows in the laptop. Installed bitcoin core there, right now copying the blockchain from windows to ubuntu and next thing I'll have to do is reindex...after that...hoping with ubuntu I will finally be able to complete my ovjective...

Working great, I already had done most of reindexing on the windows installation and since I also copied the chainstate directory I see that bitcoin core on ubuntu continuing reindexing from where it left off...only 1 year and 35 weeks back reindexing to do baby !    Roll Eyes

I had thought public keys were only for each address, not each wallet. Ok I'll try and report.

One private key -> one public key.

Wallets are just a set of private/public key pairs. If you were thinking of importing an Armory wallet into Electrum using your root key, that wont work.

You dont need the private key just to check balance. Use the public key instead.

Ok tks once more, will try then to: 1) obtain public key for each of my armory wallets.  2) see if with those I can then check balances with Electrum.

Cool line about Linux being the name of the best antivirus !  Grin, For other reasons cannot use Linux on my win 7 64 laptop at the moment. This is the laptop I am trying to complete downloading the blockchain with to check balance of my armory watch only wallets (I generate these watch only wallets with armory in a different computer -that never goes online- that is running on Ubuntu).

One thing, if I can get the "private keys" for each of my Armory wallets, wouldn't I be able to check balances of these on a different client (Electrum), since it looks as if I am unable to complete downlowding blockchain with Armory or Bitcoin core alone?

Thanks again for all the replies/help.
Situation now is further complicated. bitcoin core continues stuck at last 9 hours. After I leave laptop on for a few hours to see if it goes beyond that the screen goes black and have no choice but to close by unpluggin the power line.
I ran my antivirus and it detects some virus/worms in some of the blockchain blocks. Will search the forum to see if this issue has been covered already. Meantime updating my antivirus and, as far as having to reindex again, which I'll have to do after unplugging the black screen laptop and thus not closing bitcoin core properly, hoping that having a backup of the chainstate folder (that someone told me would work) will allow me not to have to reindex again, which takes 3 days to do.
I went into my router a couple of days ago and made sure to establish that port 8333 is open by the way.
Any further comments will be appreciated.

Anti virus needs an exception (i.e. do not scan this folder) for the directory C:\Users\Lortel24jun15\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin\

If you can't put exceptions in the anti virus software, you need to disable and/or replace your anti virus software. Best anti virus software is called Linux.

Why do you want to run Bitcoin Core and Armory simultaneously? Is not Armory enough?

Usually, Armory runs Bitcoin Core in background. I think if you uncheck that option, you may not get any problem.

I keep bitcoind running in the background continuously under Windows 7 so that when I start Armory the load time is significantly reduced because the blockchain is already updated.  I also have the checkbox in Armory about letting Armory run bitcoind. So far now problems after about 3 months.

As far as being stuck at 9 hours I can't help there. Sorry!!

Your log file won't help much here. Armory won't get to do any of its own stuff until Core is ready. You need to look at Core's debug.log, chances are it will have interesting entries. For now, make sure you have enough free disk space and are using the latest stable Core build.

You are still auto managing bitcoind if it reports on bitcoin engine initialization. Turn off auto management as instructed previously, turn off Armory, start BitcoinQt, let it sync all the way, then turn on Armory.

Thanks again. Already tried to sync all the way with BitcoinQT but, as reported yesterday, it seemed stuck at "last 9 hours". It spent several hours saying that until I figured I'd switch to armory to see if , with my wallets open, it could finish. So, I would try as per your instructions here but bitcoinQt stuck last 9 hours !

More detailed info of my armory log files in this thread:

Open Armory, in File -> Settings, turn off auto bitcoind management and restart Armory. From there on you will have to run Core manually.

Ok, thanks so much. I have exited bitcoin core with the exit option, hope don't have the same reindex problem later.
Meantime I launched armory. But...It seems stuck at 99% 54 blocks, and even more worrying, it says Offline at bottom right.
I have had it on for many hours.

I tried already with "skip online check" on and off, same result.

I am on windows 7. I do have some watch only wallets loaded, don't know if it makes a difference, blanked them out for security/privacy:

Which version are you using?

I explained in my post that I would rather not close bitcoin core because it seems stuck downloading the "last 9 hours" of the blockchain and if I close it I might get the reindex problem again, so that' why I wanted to open armory, to see if I can check my offline wallets now, but without closing bitcoin core for the reason explained. So I can do it? there's an option in armory?...to uncheck that option I'd have to open armory at the same time as bitcoin core open now. Want to make sure it's ok to do so before opening armory.

Thanks for your reply.

You only need to open Armory for syncing when Bitcoin Core is run as a background process to download blockchain. You don't need to run Bitcoin Core manually for downloading blocks. That is why, I am asking "why you need to run Bitcoin Core and Armory simultaneously?" Why don't you run Armory alone?

0.93.2 windows 7 is version of armory I have.

The reason I prefered to download the blocks with bitcoin core is because previously I had done so with armory but at some point it seemed stuck and even said offline at bottom right, so I figured it'd be better to first download and reindex everything with bitcoin core and after that start armory to quickly check my offline wallets.
Right now situation is I have bitcoin core open; it finished reindexing everything today and continued to download the remaining blocks, at the moment bitcoin core seems stuck in "last 9 hours"; I'm afraid to close bitcoin core and open instead armory because, if I close bitcoin core now I may have the reindex needed thing again (done reindexing 2 times already, 3 days each time, and about 4 days when I downloaded the blockchain...

Yes, I know armory sort of runs bitcoin core in the background or something. The thing is, I have bitcoin core open right now. It's taken me almost 3 whole days to reindex the blocks (second time now!) and after it did then it continued updating the blockchain download, but it seems stuck at the last 9 hours...
But I am afraid to close bitcoin core in case I get the reindex problem again, so wondering if there is any problem if I launch armory while having bitcoin core open too?

I tried a search in this forum but could not find anything with "armory with bitcoin core open", sorry if this question has been asked a trillion times  Cry
