okay the answer is - YES!

goto bitminer.  Sign up.  download their java client.  Let'er rip!

You will see something like .00000000001 BTC per day, but there you have it!

Maybe you could pull between 3-7 KH/s using a CPU.

If you absolutely must mine - then consider buying a block erupter for maybe 10 dollars and use that to mine with on bitminter.

The bitminter java applet does detect cpu and integrated graphics (the last time I used it was last year though so I could be wrong).  It is the most painless way to begin mining bitcoin.

The manual way would be to use something like BFGminer.  No software you download will make you mine any faster which is why you see people using external hardware to mine now a days.  I suggest the block erupter as the cheapest way to get into bitcoin mining although it will likely not make its money back. (expect a lifetime profit of maybe 30 to 60 cents for that 5 dollars invested)

I've written about mining multiple times here, on reddit and on my own storefront blog here if you're interested in more information.

I would DEFINITELY not mine on a laptop.  Maybe some CPU mining on a desktop but only then if the desktop was in use anyway or the power would cost more than the profits.

You can, but the electricity costs more than the bitcoin mined, and there is a high risk of overheating your laptop.

You can mine only to see how it works. It's not profitable at all!

Mining with laptop is waste, some times your laptop will burn due to high heat.

Special hardware required for "serious" mining.

Though it is also not easy to break even with ASICs.

You could mine something like Heavycoin and convert it to Bitcoin.

Difficulty update days: 13
Difficulty increase rate: 1.17

There is one small problem here.

If difficulty updates every 13 days (takes 13 days to find 2016 blocks), difficulty will go up by slightly less than 8% each time only.
If difficulty increase by ~17% each time, it should update slightly shorter than 12 days each time.

Oops. Didn't claim to be a mathematician. I was just going with what it seemed like things were doing lately.

But I do seriously doubt that the difficulty will continue to rise an average of 17% per adjustment. Have you noticed how many mining hardware sellers are putting things on sale? I think the difficulty increases will be much smaller in 2-3 months unless the price of Bitcoin starts climbing significantly again.

As for Difficulty, I added Difficulty history tool to mining-profit.com calculator yesterday. As you can see, average difficulty rise is 11-22%, so 17% is pretty accurate value.

True, I myself don't expect to see difficulty rising 17% each time forever as well.
Anyway, have fun and good luck in your mining business. Smiley

If I buy 178 GHz for $500 and bitcoin goes up to $1000 in a year I've got 1.0083 X $1000, so slightly better ROI. Plus, I still have 4 years of mining on my contract.

How did you get the figure 1.0083 btc?  Huh

I used the calculator linked above.

The problem with mining calculators is that they don't even try to account for bitcoin going up in fiat value.

Which, if someone is wanting to invest in Bitcoin, they should be assuming that Bitcoin will be going up in value. Otherwise, why invest in Bitcoin at all - whether it's mining or speculating.

If I buy a bitcoin for $500 and it goes up to $1000 in a year I've doubled my money (assuming I sell).

If I buy 178 GHz for $500 and bitcoin goes up to $1000 in a year I've got 1.0083 X $1000, so slightly better ROI. Plus, I still have 4 years of mining on my contract.

Obviously that's according to figures that may vary a lot, but saying mining isn't profitable is just an uneducated thing to say.

i have a laptop and i rademon hd8670m? im new at bitcoins.. i think not? Cheesy and my mhash now is 90 that is low?

Yes, it is very low.
You can check a profit calculator (for example: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator) to see how much you will get. Smiley

But better use mining-profit.com calculator Cool It's more accurate and convenient.

Can you?  Sure!

Should you?  NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Not at the current difficulty and BTC Price.  Wouldn't make sense for you.
