It can and has been used before to verify ownership of an account before, but just as long as the evidence is clear and follows the guidelines set out in the sticky. You'll have to PM the admin's about it to get it restored but I wouldn't hold your breath for it to happen even if you had a bitcoin one staked.

Hi, I would like to appeal to the Bitcointalk.org administrators if they will allow me to recover my hacked account using a signed message from my Ethereum address that is linked to my hacked account?
