It could take years to crack your wallet . If you will be careful to perform the simple steps you have nothing to fear . First, you should keep the data from your wallet only on the flash drive .Secondly, you should always check the links .  Third, you should not click on strange links or download files from the Internet .

Of course your wallet can be hacked, because today programs have gaps in every program has its own vulnerability, it remains only to find more. I think that you also need to be more careful when using a purse.

This wallet is safe. You can not break it ... the person himself gives his data to enter. Download files with viruses, enter secret keys on fake sites and so on ...

People are to blame , you need to be careful and look at the links and wallets . Often, they themselves enter a secret key on fake sites or upload files with viruses

Perhaps you should understand the knowledge of the blockchain, and the randomly generated addresses have a variety of possibilities, so it's almost impossible for you to crack it.

Hi guys!
I’ll tell you what I think.
I'm feeling anxious about MEW security.
If we change some characters of Mew prative key, we will get to anather wallet.
Exampe:
Prative key wallet 1: a1e57f1422ae77c1c51f1626d6cbd6ad376f184976a0e83b430ed7e8c66e998d

Prative key wallet 2: a1e57f1422de77c1c51f1623d6cbd6ad376f184976a0e83b430ed7e8c66e998d

After i change characters on wallet 1 a = d & 6 = 3, i get wallet 2.

Question is, can MEW be hacked easily? This can be dangerous for investors.
And why MyEtherWallet not connect to 2FA? This is a good measure to protect our wallet.
Guys, What do you think about this?

Better to dont change your wallet for now, but if you really need to change it depends on you because, if your account will change it maybe you private key will hacked.

No, its not so easy like those you have shown. The private key that has given us is generated randomly with 256 bit long and it will be impossible to randomly changes by 1 or 2 character like that.

MyWallets wallet is not possible to crack, this should take years. Typically, people themselves are to blame for the fact that they steal wallets ... you need to check the links on which you turn, keep the file on a flash drive or other device.

Its good to dont change password unless you dont share your key from the other, be careful always.

Private Key were safe as long as not used in any phising sites, I don't think many will put such effort to encode a lot of codes , if that 2 parts only changes then it can easily get hacked, as of now those who get hacked are only due to phising sites. So always be careful on what we visit and what we input.

With that example it looks supereasy and causes anxiety. I think the possibilities are so many that quantum computing would be needed to do something like that.
With respect to the website yes it can be hacked and user can be subject to phising attack. The fact that MEW does not store PK , saves the user. All in all user has to be super attentive to such attack. Always use JASON file. To be more safe use Ledger Nano

I don't think MEW can be easily hacked as you think, the only common and easiest way I know is if you use the wrong page, like my mentor will say that I must be careful to make sure the page is locked and also be careful of my private key and other essentials. But apart from this I think you are in safe hands.

As others have said, its incredibly unlikely (as in would take millions of years if not more) to crack individual wallets. Well MyEtherWallet itself can be hacked since it's a website. Even if the site isn't directly hacked you could be victim of phishing or other attacks.

First of all you should never use MyEtherWallet online. You should get some Linux live DVD and then download the site so you can access the site offline. Then open "index.html"  in your browser and create your private keys there. Using one private key per file is annoying but the most secure method. You can save these private key files in some encrypted file somewhere (remember that anything done in a live DVD is just done on the ram). Use Tails OS DVD to do that (disconnect internet before private key creation).

In this way your private keys are safe because they never saw the internet. To check the funds just use any eth blockchain explorer.

Just don't give your private key to any airdrop, because private key is a 64 characters and that is so hard to predict/hack our own private key, just save it in a secured file or in some flashdrive. I encountered some of hackers and phishing all i receive in airdrops and that is so cruel.

Well, no one is safe nowadays. Use Trezor or Ledger. This will give you some confidence. I saw that some people share different coins for different purses. If some one is hacked, another will be left with tokens. Thieves and hackers will always be. And it's right that you are afraid.

Good security system though there must be a gap, it's just where the gap still needs a process to find. For MEW itself, we should not rely on website security sisters, from both parties of the provider and the customer must play a role in protecting the assets therein.

As far as I know, MyEtherWallet doesn't store the private keys. So if your wallet gets hacked and the coins and tokens are stolen, then it may be due to a trojan or keylogger in your system. Till now, I haven't heard any reports about MyEtherWallet getting hacked.

It is possible.Nothing is safe in the internet and even the files of the government can be hacked. So you better be careful to hide your private keys always in a safe place.Or if I were you,you must have to make a duplicate on private keys just to be sure. And lastly, never visit a questionable  link or phishing site that requires ether address and private keys.

I'll tell you so. The chance to guess the private key from your wallet, which consists of 64 characters is not real. I do not know who should be and what needs to be done to break your wallet. The probability is 0. Only the website itself can be hacked, or you will inadvertently go to a phishing site. The safety of your wallet depends only on your actions.

It might look easy to create different addresses this way, but because there are so many combinations, the chance of hitting a wallet that already exists is extremely small.

A quick calculation (not accounting for fixed numbers or letters at start for instance):

That private key has 64 characters, including lower case letters and digits 0-9. This means there are 26 + 10 = 36 possible options on each location.

36^64 = 4.0*10^99 combinations.

That would literally be impossible to crack ever.

just a little correction I dont think the term "impossible" is supposed to be coz if youbare going to apply statistics it would still be poasible with a minimal probability of approximately 3.04-150% in order to be solve and just think how many years would a person or lets say a computer can solve it.

There is no 100% secure system protection. As always human factor is the weakest link in IT security like clicking an unsolicited email out of curiosity. Smiley

MEW is a very functional wallet but also exposes you in a few places when you create the key pairs. The nice thing about MEW is you can very easily get to your tokens on the Eth chain. There are risks though if you just use it in its basic standard form and use UTC files. At one stage when you create a key pair your private parts are exposed on the screen. You can use MEW if you want, but it is much better to use a hardware wallet like Ledge Nano S that can also store Ethereum tokens.

My wife got phished in her first MEW wallet but that was because she went to a phishing site. If you bookmark your MEW wallet, it should work fine as long as you do not hand over your private keys to anyone. Also make multiplke NEW addresses and wallets to hold a variety of coins or go through metamask. If you want extra security then best to invest in the hardware trezor or nano wallets for extra hardcore security purposes. Everything on the internet and in computing holds risks so we must try to minimize those risks as much as we can accordingly.

It's possible to decode a wallet address, but of course it will take a lot of time. MEW can be hacked through phishing site, if someone knew your private key, or if someone has access to your wallet. The best way is to make sure that you are opening the right website, always check URL, never open a suspicious website, delete cookies, and secure your wallet private key.

I don't say it is impossible to hack the Myetherwallet but it takes more than hundred years to find the correct combination of the private key it is  64 characters even with the most powerful computer present at the world now.But the hackers using phishing links to copy the private keys from our system, that's why it is important to keep our system offline and it is better to use a separate computer system for the crypto currency storage then it will restrict the hackers.
And 2FA is really not needed when the private key is available since it is the best security source ever so we need to keep our private key safely to keep our funds safe.

myetherwallet is just an address, your coins will be safe there with the private key you have the key using hexadecimal with lots of characters, therefore very difficult to guess or hack
Just make sure that you are on the right website, better save the link into your bookmarks. Because only that way you can be hacked, if you will give your file with private key to phishing website.

As Myetherwallet give you a public and private key I don't think any hackers can create one that match existing wallets.
But there are so many phishing website (I'm a victim too when I was newbie) then let's use Metamask or Ledger to protect your private key.
That's all your assets just small invest it will save you in future

Myetherwallet I believe cannot be hacked and never will be.
Myetherwallet.com will generate both public and private for you and you're going to keep it with you because you are the one who are the only responsible of your digital keys.
Now, if your Mew was hacked, it's not their fault but yours. You get hacked on you own watch and the Crypto Assets you have on that wallet will be taken away from you.
That's why some users and holders are buying Hardware wallets to keep their Crypto Assets safe and secured.
Maybe your computer was hacked or your transactions was hijacked so if your computer was penetrated by viruses then definitely you digital wallet is vulnerable by hackers.

MyEtherWallet cant be hacked itself but hackers can hack your computer and get your private key that's why I suggest a lot of my friend to use a hardware wallet to secure their funds and protect against hackers. You can also use offline version of myetherwallet or use meta mask to access your wallet since both of these options give will you more security. Also, beware of phishing website or online link.
Very useful suggestions. In my experience I have observed that MyEtherWallet is easily one of the most secure online wallets out there and I never faced any problems in the security aspect with this wallet ever. I don't think it's impossible to hack this wallet which is why I suggest securing your private key and not sharing it with anyone that you cannot trust. Also, do not download random wallets here and there which can penetrate your system and steal your credentials through trojans or other forms of viruses.

Just make sure to always check the url in your browser and preferably use a hardware wallet so your private key is stored externally on the device.
Checking the link before importing the private keys is very important. There are many users of mew got hacked even my friend had attacked of phishing sites all of his coin was lose. Hardware wallet is safe were we can store our coins.

Hi guys!
I’ll tell you what I think.
I'm feeling anxious about MEW security.
If we change some characters of Mew prative key, we will get to anather wallet.
Exampe:
Prative key wallet 1: a1e57f1422ae77c1c51f1626d6cbd6ad376f184976a0e83b430ed7e8c66e998d

Prative key wallet 2: a1e57f1422de77c1c51f1623d6cbd6ad376f184976a0e83b430ed7e8c66e998d

After i change characters on wallet 1 a = d & 6 = 3, i get wallet 2.

Question is, can MEW be hacked easily? This can be dangerous for investors.
And why MyEtherWallet not connect to 2FA? This is a good measure to protect our wallet.
Guys, What do you think about this?

even its imposibble, but there's a small chance to hack MEW. some people who want try to hack MEW, must spend his whole life to find a correct pass. there's 64 digit, mix betwen numeric and alphabet. its really hard to hack it.

I will say like many, of course Mew can be hacked, because there are no perfect systems, so I say that. For today people could not create the perfect program, therefore at programs too most that has a beginning always has an end.

Yes ofcourse everything connected on the internet can be hacked no matter what security you have. That's why they have suggested that we have to install and used metamask, EAL, and cryptonite for additional security on our MEW. Please be careful always don't go on any phishing site and always make sure your firewall is on.

It can't be hacked quickly, but remember there is a lot of possibilities.

The total amounts of the alphabet are 26 + 9 numbers. That means 35 characters to be try. Ethereum private key built from 64 characters.  That means if there are 2240 possibilities.

But that not means if you can change it easily.

Yes! If you mean their website then it's definately can be hacked. How? Hacker must get access to myetherwallet.com domain and he must change the name servers to his host. After this he can replace the original MEW website to his replica website which can scrape users data to his database.

all sites can be attack of hackers, even the most secure sites that has more security system/protocol can be, but it take too long and they need to have more hackers to start a hacking, but MEW private key cannot be crack in just a minute or hours, even a super computer cannot do that. its take you more than 20 years or more before you can crack a single MEW wallet. so how do hackers can hack you? unless you are a careless persons who accidentally paste your private key some where or got phished.

Myetherwallet is a website so there is a possibility that it can be hacked but the question is "HOW?". You can't easily put some characters there and guess the private key of a certain user of MEW. For me, MEW is one of the safest wallets at this moment and I am convenient using it. Just be careful of the phishing sites that you are browsing. Make sure that the website is the real website and not the fake one.

My account on MyEtherwallet was compromised due to my negligence and it will be a lesson learned forever in my Crypto life. I was a victim of a phishing site where I clicked a link in my email supposedly coming from Myetherwallet.com but alas, it was a phishing site. Lets all be careful guys. As an added security, try to install a firewall such as zone alarm and update your Anti virus regularly. It will help you give a little peace of mind. Smiley

It's impossible to hack and without 2fa unless of course you leave your privat key anywhere

While I agree that doesn't mean you shouldn't take basic security precautions. E.g. 2fa, not leaving your computer unattended, not visiting suspicious sites, etc.

You are absolutely right, even the party from MEW has stated that you should be responsible for your own wallet.
They can not help when you lose your wallet, but if you have a little money you should buy an offline wallet so you feel the peace.
MEW already supports with offline wallet. Depending on how you keep your MEW wallet secrets as well, if anyone knows your privatekey then your wallet will not survive.

It can be hacked but not in that way because it is very hard to guess the combinations of all 64 characters of the private keys. Maybe you could guess the exact keys but after of many years of vigorously matching it but that if you have the determination to start it one by one of matching it now. In addition, if you really want to insist your findings then it can be apply to all private keys not to MEW alone.

I had exactly the same thoughts when I came to the crypto. I guess you already get the answer. I just want to say that MEW is not tied with your question at all. It's only about ETH network math. MEW is just an interface to get your wallet under control.

I don't think before to replace our private key and get access to other wallet. It's the great information i think. But, thought it can be, I don't think some one can predict our private key with exactly to take over our wallet and get our token because there have so many combination they must try to get some token. I think it's must be hard and need so muct time to try the combinations and they not will be can filter it for an wallet. But, I think that must be a great hole at etherum wallet.

Myetherwallet itself cannot be hacked easily and the method you are pertaining to here will not get your account hacked since like what others said it would take many years for it to succeed. Although that is the case, myetherwallet can be hacked in many ways, not just phishing. I don't know what specific ways a hacker can do besides it but I am sure there are.many more methods other than that so be careful in downloading anything. If you don't feel secured, feel free to buy a hardware wallet like ledger nano s.

This might be a stroke of luck ( probably if you change one supplemental character , you won't get another wallet )
36^64 = 4.0*10^99 combinations.
Yes it's very hard to find a coherent combination among these possible ones

If you be careful and do not go to phishing sites and keep your key and password securely, do not enter this information where not, then I think that your wallet will always be safe. Well MyEtherWallet itself can be hacked since it's a website. Even if the site isn't directly hacked you could be victim of phishing or other attacks.
Yeah the website can be hacked but since that website have no DB to save your PK ( i guess) its still save. And phising can be avoid by login through metamask. More secure and have a warning if some website you visit is a fake website try to do some phising.

Well MyEtherWallet itself can be hacked since it's a website. Even if the site isn't directly hacked you could be victim of phishing or other attacks. The best option to get extra security is to use metamask or similar options. It's the same thing with etherdelta for example. They were recently hacked, and a lot of users lost some funds because they were putting their pk directly into the hacked site. Had they used metamask to interact with the exchange, they would be fine.

As for your doubt regarding the security of pk itslef, I think they are secure. It's easy to think otherwise with your example, but you can't really fix chars like that, and a brute force attack would still need to use the other combinations and would go no where. If it was easy to do it, I'm sure we would have known that by now.

There is a lot wrong with this picture. None of the 3 cryptographic primitives used by Bitcoin (SHA-256, RIPEMD-160, ECDSA) are proven to be absolutely secure. It is possible that a flaw in these may be discovered.
Even ignoring some possible unknown flaw in the algorithms this picture is using a poor example. It is assuming a security level of 256 bits, while the actual security level of a Bitcoin address is 128 bits. Bitcoin does use 256 bit private keys but the security level of ECDSA is equivalent to half of the key size (which is pretty good compared to RSA).
Same goes with ethereum, and yeah still uncrackable.

Hi guys!
I’ll tell you what I think.
I'm feeling anxious about MEW security.
If we change some characters of Mew prative key, we will get to anather wallet.
Exampe:
Prative key wallet 1: a1e57f1422ae77c1c51f1626d6cbd6ad376f184976a0e83b430ed7e8c66e998d

Prative key wallet 2: a1e57f1422de77c1c51f1623d6cbd6ad376f184976a0e83b430ed7e8c66e998d

After i change characters on wallet 1 a = d & 6 = 3, i get wallet 2.

Question is, can MEW be hacked easily? This can be dangerous for investors.
And why MyEtherWallet not connect to 2FA? This is a good measure to protect our wallet.
Guys, What do you think about this?

If you're scared, always interact with MEW via the likes of MetaMask or hardware wallets such as Trezor or Ledger.

As others have said, its incredibly unlikely (as in would take millions of years if not more) to crack individual wallets. As for 2FA, myetherwallet isn't actually a wallet per-say. It's an online interface to interact with your wallet. It works the same as if you downloaded a wallet application and input your private key there.

I can type random number from 0-9 and include random char  a, b, c, d, e, and f that random char will be ethereum address too. But that address doesnt have any ether or token isnide it anyway. My point is you have to try this much
36^64 = 4.0*10^99 combinations.
and not gonna happening though

read this, this is actualy for bitcoin but work same as ethereum private key

Myetherwallet private key has 64 characters in all. If you calculate the probability of getting the rivate key of one address, it may take you more years or not even have the chance to hack. Hackers intelligent ones if you do not keep your private key secured. For example when people join bounty, they put there privatenkey instead of address. When they open mew, they choose the phising site. So just be careful and you wont be hacked.
