Thanks for the discussion everyone.

From all the posts I can deduct that for crypto and online casinos to be able to ever compete with national lotteries there would need to be a huge shift on how much money gets spent on online gambling which is unlikely. Also online gambling is not as centralized as it's very competitive.

Some sites might hold their own sweepstakes and lotteries but nothing close to the rewards of state lotteries. With that said though, this might be fine as the state lotteries are a very different kind of gambling anyway.

With that said, I think it's time to close this thread.
Hopefully a  crypto casino starts to try to capture the heat of running a big lottery soon though so we no longer have to speak only with hypotheticals.

Obviously not, for sure online gambling (casinos and bookies) can't compete against national lotteries in terms of expected winnings except if you are a high roller with a very large bankroll. But the maximum multiplier/payout rate will never be able to challenge it.

A lottery running by a crypto enabled casino would have a technological advantage in having the possibility to run on a provably fair manner whereas national lotteries these days are often ran with virtual draws that can't be verified to be random. That along with the ease of use of accessing the purchase of tickets from your personal device could also be considered an added benefit.

What do you think? Would you buy tickets in a crypto lottery yourself? And would you prefer it over a state lottery?
What do you mean by virtual draw? Is it not live-streamed like most of the lotteries do? I understand that it can be rigged by some means for example the numbers inside the jar are rigged, but the capture of the numbers is live-streamed so it's mostly fair in front of regular people's eyes.

The provably fair lottery only has values if it's verified and the algo is proven correct, so most people can't do that... They prefer to trust their eye in the drawing event.

No matter how fair the lottery system might appear to be because of who is handling it, it's still good to keep in mind that the system can be manipulated at any time because that's how the system has been built to be, as the gambler doesn't have access to the system, so you can't determine how true whatever they say the system is programmed to do is or if they can manually manipulate figures.
If we talk about system, that can manipulated by those who have skills. Lottery can also be manipulated so we don't knows if that lottery system is fair or not. But online gambling doesn't have to competes with national lotteries because they are run in different ways. Online gambling gets their user from online and more large user while national lotteries follow by people who lived on that country. There is no need to compete each other because the type of business is different although they have the same basic thing. But both type lotteries can provide a life changer to the winners so that is why people still buy lotteries because they want to wins the lottery.

I think that national lotteries have a gambling factor to them. I can give several fact that people who love lotteries are very unrestrained and forget about self-control.
For example, in the country where I now live, there was a case when a woman was selling lottery tickets, and for some reason in 300 tickets she erased the field where there could be a winning combination. However, she never won there. After that, she owed the store a lot of money since she was an ordinary cashier.
What a pathetic story. But in my understanding of this kind of national lotteries, I believe the ticket amount is always super cheap per ticket, say $1 or $2. If someone is not greedy, are 10 tickets at random not enough? I blame this woman for her folly, she was desperate to win the bet. However, her desperation is nothing compared to what many people are facing with casinos if they are addicted to it and her case in this narration is not happening to many people as far as I am concerned. This is because the results of lotteries are not fast, unlike the results of most casino games, which will make people play over and over again. This is why I believe that the national lottery is still less controlling as you can't cheat the time the lottery would be released and that MUST have bought you enough time interval before the next play.

National lotteries are one of the very few ways someone could win millions by gambling. While the odds of winning are astronomically low, there's generally a sentiment that it might be worth it given how low the stakes can be.

For example most countries have a national lottery where tickets can start from 1$/€ etc. In Europe one of the biggest lotteries has prizes of up to 120 million EUR for a minimum ticket price of 2.5 EUR.
In the US several lotteries such as Powerball and Mega Millions have hit jack pots of above 1 billion USD!

This makes me wonder if any online Casino could ever compete with these levels of gambling rewards and pots.

For one usually the national or state lotteries are usually monopolies so there can't be competition. Which allows them to get huge. Also there's supposedly strict regulation and they have very long histories so people tend to trust them. So this might make it difficult to compete with national lotteries. The demand for these games is also a problem because they're mostly sold through physical stores.

The good thing with lotteries is that on the face of huge rewards, players tolerate a very low RTP. Many lotteries have an RTP of 50% even which is crazy low compared to online gambling which tends to have RTPs no lower than 95% usually.

I think online gambling might have hopes to compete with lotteries given how huge and international it's becoming. In fact, I don't know what's holding some of the large casinos back. Maybe they see it as a political threat to their existence if they compete with state lotteries? Could be...

But I'm sure that at least to some extent there is the possibility for a large casino to run a lottery. For instance I remember Primedice used to run a lottery of over 100 BTC. With current prices that would be over 6m USD! Ofc to win all the pot you required bets of over 0.01 BTC so the entry barrier was pretty high. I'm not sure if that lottery is still running actually. But the potential is surely there.

With the advent of the internet becoming a massive thing that even toddlers somehow need to be hooked up onto it for better brain development, there's a good chance that gambling online would overpower the amount of people who gamble on national lotteries, as well as its apparent importance as well. Here in the Philippines alone, the PCSO which is our country's national lottery already took upon the internet and created an online platform where patrons of the national lottery could actually make bets on even if they are far from a betting stall or whatever that shit is called here. It's not really that famous yet but it's being featured in most news outlets now and the more people exposed to it the bigger the online counterpart's gonna be.

I don't know about crypto casinos though, cause as it stands today it still is a pretty niche concept if you ask me, and if there's no instant gratification like what happens in P2E games like Axie Infinity (which aren't gambling games for the record) I don't think the people will really delve deep into it by themselves. They need some form of motivation and free spins or extra deposits isn't gonna do it if you'll ask me.

We never know that but there is always a possibility of that happening. Even if it's a lottery done on the state level, there can still be manipulation in it because we know how large the winning prizes tend to be when lotteries are run nationwide, it's about millions of dollars and euros, and those who win such a lottery will have their life changed for once and for all, so we never know, maybe they are giving the winning tickets to people close to them, or they might even take money for it.

What do you think? Would you buy tickets in a crypto lottery yourself? And would you prefer it over a state lottery?

Lottery seem like it is more of manipulation where the winning ticket is already known and I believe it is not sold out at random. I have hardly seen gamblers who are benefiting from it rather you see those who bet on games and win. Buying lottery ticket is cheap and it has very tempting cash out which is the factor attracting people to it. However, I would prefer to bet directly than going to buy lottery ticket from casino or state because they are the same, same competing factor and manipulation of winning ticket.

Your point of view is interesting, but how did you come to the conclusion that the lottery results were being manipulated? According to my knowledge, these companies operate under the license of government institutions that monitor the integrity of the process in the presence of specialized observers. Personally, I have not heard that fraud of this kind has ever been discovered in any country.

In my country, the state is the one who supervises the process, whether during the sale of scraps or determining the winning number, and there is no room for tampering in any way. I find this necessary to maintain the integrity of the process because the whole issue is determined by the reliability and credibility of the sponsor. Perhaps for this reason, many people still prefer lotto programs over online gambling, since they get more guarantees despite the difficulty of winning.

I wished I had enough fat to prove this to you but I kind of agree with you here that it is more of manipulation. I do not find myself doing lotteries anymore ever several tries I've done. The reason is because I have had this mindset from the start and every time, I say I should give it a try i end up losing every single time. It may be that some winning ticket has been removed that is why you rarely see someone who wins a lottery, and they make some people win some time so that it won't be obvious that they are manipulating it and so that people will see that we can actually win if we are continuing trying.

If The participation level of gamblers with freebitcoin Lambo contest didn't actually measure with those of other common games in their platform basically due to how people would prefer taking on with their normal slot games and others than the Lambo lottery despite how transparent it appears to be.
A higher number of lottery lovers will rather participate in government lotteries than private gambling sites or companies and from what I conceive is that they have more faith in them getting a bigger chance of winning with government lottery than private because the government are known to be less profit oriented with their services.
Do you think the government is transparent and fair? Roll Eyes

You will never know behind the lottery except you're the worker.

Either the winner announced in offline or digital, there's always a chance it's rigged, as long as they don't want to use cryptography and blockchain, it's never been fair.

One of fair lottery is using Bitcoin's block, each person choose their own number and the winner is depend on the last few digits of the hash.

That's the downside about it since there are controversies surrounds on national lottery since there are times that result is questionable and it seems like they can manipulate in favor to what they like.

What I only like about those national lotteries is they intend or separate some funds for charity and many people got the benefits to get something when they need money especially for emergency cases like hospitalization since those institutions will give some help to those people who are in need. For example this program https://www.pcso.gov.ph/ProgramsAndServices/CAD/MedicalAccessProgram.aspx/1000

But other than that or activities they made it seems the result they show is always suspicious.
But still despite of those issues and those accusations there are still people who do purchase or buy those tickets on national lotteries and would really be that hoping that they would really be able to hit up the jackpot.
We do know that when it comes to potential life changing opportunity then it could really be giving out that kind of shot or chances on which this is the main reason on why they would really be that still considering on buying tickets. Speaking about national lotteries and online gambling lotteries then we do know that when it comes to popularity then online lotteries arent really that getting too much traction if we do compared out into those usual state lotteries on which jackpot prizes are really that getting bigger day by day on which simply means that there are tons of people who do still buying those tickets.

Choosing up in between, then for sure that confidence and trust would really be that sticking into those traditional lotteries on which they would really be purchasing up tickets into those booths.
Competition would really be that somewhat irrelevant because you could really be able to see the significant difference in terms of demand and interest both online and offline things.
But well it would really be just that depending on you on where you would really be tending to bet on.

No, but I wouldn't expect them to. People who play lotteries live on hope, but that hope doesn't lead anywhere. It's like throwing money into a wishing well, so that you feel better about the chances of your wish coming true. The problem is that the action you've performed (throwing a coin) doesn't change your odds at all. When it comes to lotteries it mathematically does improve your chance, but practically it doesn't

I'll give you an example. If someone promises to pay you 1 satoshi, mathematically you've gained something, but practically you haven't. Anything below 0.01 USD is in fact nothing because you will never be able to use the value it represents.

Bottom line, spending money on national lotteries is dumb, unless it makes you feel better and you pay for the experience.

For me personally, I would only take part in a lottery if I know that there is transparency and that the management cannot cheat us, the participants, and the winner will be chosen with honesty among those who have bought tickets in the lottery and not someone they want to win it.

Online gambling gives us an option but, it was not made something like we think these would compete with national lotteries. We have noticed their strong growth rate but still, a lot of gamblers prefer to go offline casinos as they are comfortable with them.

Here in my country, I could feel the determination of the gamblers to win the jackpot prize as I saw them in the long line buying tickets. The huge jackpot prize made them think that winning the lottery could change everything. Hearing someone hit the jackpot prize has a mental impact as this could boost their confidence to keep gambling thinking that they could be lucky someday.

I agree that just because you see the winning numbers doesn't mean that it's actually as transparent as we think it is. I don't think that online lotteries can compete with national ones. There are casinos that offer lotteries, such as FreeBitcoin, which others have already mentioned but are currently facing issues with, Rollbit, or Duelbits, but the rewards cannot in any way compete with the millions that are distributed in national lotteries. There are certainly other platforms out there as well, but I'm not familiar with them as I'm not into this type of gambling.

Well, online crypto casino is an innovative idea to do gambling differently from the traditional way, and despite its existence, there are still so many customers who still prefer the national lotteries and land-based casinos. So many young people are already migrating to online casinos, including myself. Although I cannot speak less of the fun I usually get when I am around my friends at the land base casino, Everyone has different choices and tastes for things they want. According to your question, I would buy a ticket from the Crypto Lottery.
So true, it cannot be compared to playing with people around you and I don't know why but it gives me more pleasure when I see them playing with you or against you. It's totally different especially when you are playing casino games like poker where the heat of the game could increase at any moment or when you are battling head-to-head for the pot. Online gambling sites can not give the same pleasure as that but truly they give ease in playing at home and it helps those who just like it that way.
I think the competition is not online gambling sites against national lotteries because for me they are way different because of the method of winning. Big pot against a small/average one.

That's a common misconception among people and this misconception is created by governments and authorities by showing that they aren't profit-oriented or aren't taking a lot of profit from their people but the reality is completely opposite of that. Take banks as an example, they make you feel like they are working only for you, to provide you with services and everything and they don't get much in return, but we all know that isn't the reality, a common uneducated person wouldn't know this.

Similarly, when it comes to lotteries and other stuff, they make us feel like they are completely transparent and that they aren't taking a lot of profit, but do you know that state lotteries have very high house edges? They take a very large percentage of the total amount and give away the rest to the winner or winners.

Some online casinos can have huge lotteries if they start offering this service, consider Stake as an example. They have a very large audience base, and if they have a lottery where gamblers can buy tickets and get to win the total pot or other rewards, it will be huge, however, it will barely be able to compete with national lotteries because of the fact that a national lottery runs nationwide, which means that people from all around the country can buy tickets for a national lottery.

In a cryptocurrency casino, no matter how many users it has, there is still a limit to the number of participants which can be a barrier for them to be able to compete with national lotteries because national lotteries will eventually sell more tickets and hence have a higher pot amount for the winner(s).
It is better not to compete each other because of the prizes but it is better to compete to how to gives the best services to their customers. That will gives them a chance to see an increasing in the number of their customers.
Besides that, competing between online gambling compete with national lotteries is not easy because we must have the data that can show everything. Maybe we can say that national lotteries will have better position than online gambling but we don't knows the truth.
They as a customer will not thinks much about that competition because they only wants to be the winner. They will focus with their number of the ticket lotteries and will buy more to increase their chance to wins.

Getting a bigger chance of winning in a government lottery? I don't know about your country's government-sponsored lottery but here in mine, government lotteries have millions of entries per day. That makes your chances of winning very little. But the jackpot prizes are really huge that many think it's worth trying. And each ticket is cheaper, too.

Aside from having low probability of winning, even lower than getting struck by lightning, there's always the suspicion of corruption and fraud. For one, it's being run by the most corrupt institution in the country, the government. Also, because they only announce that the jackpot is won without naming the winner, many doubt its integrity.

Government lotteries may not be profit-oriented but if you think this is a reason for them to be generous in their prizes, you're wrong. Here in my country, although the jackpot prizes are so big, actually only 55% of tickets sales go to the prizes.

No, online gambling will definitely not replace national lotteries. There is a huge difference between them; buying tickets in a lottery is already a tradition and a more conservative game, one might even say family type. I play the German national lottery once a month with my relatives and it’s just like a tradition and another reason to talk and discuss a game plan. And gambling is for more advanced players and there is much more excitement and the risk of losing much more than buying one ticket.

At least to me the greatest problem has to do with the laws of the many different countries in which that lottery was sold, since I suppose the standards set by the governments for each one of their lotteries should be different.

So dealing with all of those standards is going to be too difficult for any casino to implement, which should explain why despite the popularity of bitcoin all over the world, this is something that we have not seen happening yet.

Yes differences in law are an issue and I think there is more to the fact that many of the crypto casinos don't offer huge lotteries or don't attract a sufficient number of people to make it competitive enough compared to state run lotteries. First of all, I think a casino like Stake.com prefers the players to go to the slot machines or place bets in sports or whatever. I don't necessarily the financial incentive for them although I see potential that they could draw more people from all over the world to their platform if they had huge jackpots to be paid out.

But now you bring up an important point: if you assume that it becomes known someone won $300,000,000 on Stake.com in a lottery, I am damn sure that authorities would look into these cases and whether Stake.com has made sure the participant was accurately subjected to KYC procedures, did not come from a country that is restricted etc. It might make their business more complicated. For now they barely KYC anyone from I have heard unless you are a high stakes player. But running lotteries of a size big enough to compete with state run lotteries could complicate their course of business.

It is still that all these big casinos somewhat fly under the radar, at least it feels like that. Offering record breaking lottery jackputs would probably significantly increase scrutiny by authorities.

Despite on having no transparency on how winners would really be drawn out specially on state lottery or simply doesnt know about its fairness but still there are really that tons who do prefer out on
buying up tickets despite of such thing. We've seen here on crypto space that lottery based betting isnt something that do get that much attention. IF we do really tend to look around then
i dont see that much or its quite obvious that it isnt really that getting too much traction. Yes, there might be still some known sites that does have that lottery game but if you do base
up with the interest been shown then it isnt really that could be compared into those typical casino games like slots when it comes into overall interest.

For me, i would be still sticking on picking up or buying state lottery tickets despite of those issues or cons that it do have.
Odds would only differ on how many digits that you do need to guess on.

One crypto lottery contest that I believe is a popular one among crypto gamblers here is the win a lambo contest of freebitco, where bettors are buying or earning those golden tickets to join this contest. Other than that, I don't know any other popular crypto lottery contest here.
With state lotteries, the chance of winning thousands of dollars is on a regular basis, like weekly for most of these lotteries. Hence, they are indeed attracting regular bettors. They can claim the prize in person as well.

I might buy tickets for crypto base lottery, however, still the question if it is provably fair? And that's why we haven't seen anyone even from big crypto based casino to have a lottery because it's not worth it and it will not gain traction from the community.

So I guess that's the main reason, as least for me that online lotteries will not be successful as compare to state base lotteries wherein it has been proven to give the winners as long as they can present the ticket without question.
From where will you buy your tickets when you said there are no crypto lotteries available? The truth is, there are a few of them that I see in the forum before. To the question, if they are provably fair or not, there is a way to check it. It is when they have some long string of text, where you can copy and paste in an empty box which I think also provided by the site. If you like both crypto and lottery, then it is worth it and if more people are like this, it is possible for them to gain traction.

In an offline lottery, we can see the winners but many are still doubting if they are legit or not. In a crypto lottery, there is no need to expose the winners because that will negate its purpose which is decentralization and anonymity.

You're comparing apples with oranges.

You should compare online slots with land based slots, online lotteries with national lotteries.

If we talk about online lotteries with national lotteries, I think online lotteries can't compete with national lotteries since not many people are interested with online lotteries. One of biggest online lotteries that still exist is Golden Ticket Contest to win Lambo by Freebitco.in, but recently there are problem with this site, so it will be harder to find for trusted online lotteries.

By lottery we mean buying a coupon with a certain amount of money and keeping one part of that coupon for myself and another part of that coupon I threw in the rifle draw. But cryptocurrency lottery is a different matter. To win crypto currency lottery one must have knowledge about crypto currency. If I have no prior idea about the new task, I will be more likely to make mistakes in that task. If we have a concept of cryptocurrency relationship, we catch such a lottery. Online casinos are in almost every country so it can be a bit of a decision for the user so if users gamble in online casinos it will definitely be easier than crypto currency lottery.

I think lotteries are much more honest than any casinos. The game process is transparent there, because we see balls with numbers, which the presenter takes out. And this process really happens in real time, unlike calculating the odds in a casino, which takes place using hidden algorithms.

Also, a very important point is that lotteries are unable to cheat with money withdrawal - if someone wins the lottery,
he can always safely count on being paid the prize money quickly and without problems.
The casino cannot boast the same reliability.

I don't think a casino can compete with the national lotteries in terms of winnings. Your casino games are much smaller than the national lottery jackpots. However, there is a very important point here: winnings even in casinos occur much more often than in lotteries, and in sports betting, winnings happen even more often. The likelihood of winning anything even minimally significant in the lottery is small, and the likelihood of winning a jackpot is generally negligible. Of course, there are certain strategies aimed at increasing the chances of winning a jackpot, but all of them are ineffective and are based on large purchases of lottery tickets.
I would recommend taking up sports betting, where winnings happen much more often.

I don't like lottery because I feel like it is not really transparent when it comes to who is meant to be the winner. I have been seeing so many people playing lottery for years and what they have won so far might not be compared to how much they have lost in the process. One of the ways lottery has been so attractive to gamblers is because it is very cheap and you can use just few cents to gambler for a chance to earn big amount of money. This is one of the way people get manipulated and they would keep betting without any assurance that they would ever be fortunate to earn big from the lottery.
Same here bro, I really don't get the thrills that behind getting a lottery ticket, i mean the chances that I could be the winner is like 1 out of 1 million and that for a chance is too slim for me, I would say gambling online is better but although the lottery winning are just attractive and it gives people the sense of hope that they could possibly be the next winner.

What do you think? Would you buy tickets in a crypto lottery yourself? And would you prefer it over a state lottery?

That may be, but what I have observed is that more and more people are switching from lottery games to online casinos.

Lottery games really pay a lot more, but they are very difficult to win, and after betting several times without winning anything, players really get frustrated and even give up.

On the other hand, online games have the strategy of paying rewards in short betting times, and this keeps the player motivated and always playing.

Furthermore, easy access to online betting platforms and the glamorization of sudden success contribute to the rapid spread of this type of betting.

I believe that the best thing is to try to reconcile both: Continue betting on the national eria when there are bigger events or important bets... and betting on online games too.

Can online gambling compete with national lotteries? I dont know since there is no national lotteries in my country, but is gambling but i do believe they have different market.

But simply saying online casino cant compete with the national lotteries in my opinion. From the prize Lottery can won million dollar or couple hundred K while online casino is flexible prize
You have to think of this question as if you're being asked if online gambling can compete with giving out tens of millions in rewards in terms of USD value.
Maybe an online casino has the turnover of a weekly national lottery in a year. This is the thing, lotteries are accessible and generally have the power to be a monopoly as this is afforded to them directly by the government.

It's essentially a legal way for these corporations to make sure profit. They have established a way to get people to know a very traditional way of gambling that has no competition, and in this manner get to handle millions in rewards, but also keep about half of all of their turnover for themselves and their partners.

Online gambling is better in every conceivable quality aside of the fact that it can't be monopolized, so there might be difficulty for an online crypto casino competing with this level of rewards for running a lottery.

I was lottery lover years back but I have stopped playing it, if I have to play it again then I will prefer to buy state lottery than crypto lottery.
The only reason is that because I dont see attractive crypto lottery so far as what I used to buy in local lottery agents.
For the main question, I dont think online crypto lottery will be able to compete with national/state lottery.
If you as in general as whole "online gambling", I think online gambling (not only lottery) is much bigger industry than national/state lottery.

I'm lost in your idea, what's the point of...?

Lotteries in most countries are non-profit foundations, these allow them to generate additional income so that these companies can build and program goods and services for the community.

Casinos have their lotteries, so in reality it is not about competition, it is about profitable businesses, that's all, you don't have to put apples and pears in competition... even if they are fruits.
 Smiley

I think what the OP is trying to ask is if online casinos could compete with national lotteries, potentially surpassing them in terms of the number of bettors. Yes, national lotteries are nonprofit, with proceeds going to government projects, but let's consider the competition aspect.

National lotteries don't innovate much; they typically run the game in an old-school manner. Despite this, private lotteries still can't beat them because people are more confident in risking their money with national lotteries. They see their bets as almost a donation due to the slim chance of winning, knowing that they are also helping the country.
There would be no competition because it would really be serving out different set of people whom we do know that there are ones who do like on betting on online lotteries
and there are ones who do really likes on betting into those traditional state lotteries on which they could really be that physically be able to go into those outlets and could personally buy
those tickets for themselves. Just like on what most people been saying on here that this one would really be just that basing up on someones preference since not all
would really be having that same interest on which or where they would really want to make up such bet. Some do prefer online because of easy access or simply the convenience while
other would really be sticking into those older methods.

We shouldn't compare the national lottery and casino lottery together, they are structured and planned differently, so the outcome and people's expectations about them can't be the same. As huge as the national lottery is rewarding, are people winning often through it? And as low as the casino lottery are people not winning rampantly? That is how we should view it, the national lottery will always have fewer winners while the casino lottery will always have many winners.

Also, we should look at it in the range of how quick is the outcome. There must have been many lotteries concluded with the casino lotteries in one year compared to the national lotteries, this alone means that the two are not mechanised the same way, so the outcome can be the same. For this, it is better we do not differentiate but patronise the two, after all, the national lottery is often cheap to be an alternative at any time.

This is one of the key points of crypto over the legacy system based on monopolies and governments.

Although I have never looked into the subject, crypto lotteries are an interesting idea, as they can be done in a more transparent way, casinos can compete with each other (more prize options for customers), not financing the state mafia and its extensions (public banks, lotteries, etc.).

Not to mention that in a crypto casino, it can prove that the results are truly random by showing the code of his games in a probably fair game.

I don't know if there is actually any obstacle that prevents casinos from wanting to compete directly with state lotteries, perhaps they are not looking at it now because it may not be as profitable.
The only issue with crypto lotteries is that it isnt really that getting attention here on this crypto space as we can see that there's no much or even that it is existing which simply means that interest and demand isnt there on which we could really be able to assume up with those things just because it isnt really that too much in terms of existence.Yes, we do know that state lotteries are really that something that could be assured that it would really be totally fair and transparent on which there could really be that anomalies that could happen behind and as a citizen or bettor then there's no way that you could do something about that. This is why it cant be blamed out that there would really be those tons of people who do have that doubts but still basing up on the interest and views about state lotteries then it isnt really that still being
avoided but rather they do continue on purchasing with those tickets despite of those probabilities but well lets just accept that fact.

I think for those who understand mathematics there is no choice. In the lottery, the RTP is initially less than 50%, plus if you win a significant amount, you will pay taxes (catastrophically high in some countries). In crypto, in the worst slots, the RTP will be more than 90%, plus if you win a serious amount, you will have a chance to evade taxes (quite officially - depending on how crypto is legalized in your country and at what point is considered making a profit, in some countries this is the moment exchanging crypto for fiat).

The view of OP on lotteries and the future competition from online casinos is indeed intriguing. In particular, crypto-supported online casinos have several advantages such as transparency through "provably fair" technology plus easily accessible from personal devices. This can draw interest from players seeking alternatives to typical lotteries.

I concur that online casinos have great opportunity for large lotteries to be run as Primedice once did. But there are significant obstacles to realize this vision, particularly regulation and political threats since the emergence of competition with state lotteries could provoke a government response.

Would I purchase a crypto lottery ticket at your query? It would depend on the trustworthiness level of the platform and the visibility of the process. If crypto lotteries were able to provide better security and transparency, compared to state lotteries, it could pique more interest from people, myself included.

In most national lotteries that I know they tend to run once or even twice a week and they are able to raise millions because there are millions of tickets sold. It is remotely theoretically possible that a crypto lottery could reach this level, however it requires reaching that "critical mass" on a regular basis and I'm not sure there are enough people on to crypto scene to give it the required scale. However, if people were content with smaller numbers, say hundreds of thousands of dollars in bitcoin per win, on a slightly less frequent basis, then it is more achievable. You'd have to put a lot of money into advertising it though and I'm not sure it could keep up enough traction over time or we might have seen someone break out into this field already.

Lottery isn't my favorite gambling category. The chances are too low and there isn't too much excitement when playing on them, because you don't play in real time. You just purchase a ticket and wait for the result day. And regards crypto lotteries, the chances of winning are too low, because the tendency is that there is a much larger number of participants on the draw compared to local national lotteries. Maybe to participate minor draws, like the ones we have at casinos' chats, where some portions of cryptocurrencies are shared every hour for the active members it's more entertaining, because winning chances are pretty decent, considering there is a small number of active people on the chat.

However, when we talk about more popular lottery draws which involve larger groups of people from different countries, I think it doesn't worth at all. As an example, we have freebitco.in's lottery, which I have been participating for several years already and never won anything from it. The winning chances are tiny.

it's not everyone who knows about crypto lottery and those who knows about it, do preferd it more than state lottery why because you can't compare crypto lottery to state lottery the income while betting on crypto lottery it 100% profitable more than state lottery. And state lottery it's well known to all country and it's regulated in all areas of the world, and buying tickets in crypto lottery it's more preferable than any.

So for the crypto lottery can't make someone to get addicted so easily but the state lottery makes people to get more addicted so fast.

I believe there's no competition on this type of gambling, state/national lotteries have their local loyal patrons. Whereas, when it comes to online lotteries specifically crypto lotteries, they have their audience also.
Crypto lotteries will attract people who have more knowledge about cryptocurrency; people with no knowledge about cryptocurrency would not even want to try it out, so just as you have said, national lotteries will always have their own audience and relevance, maybe up until the time when everyone has knowledge about crypto or when the number of people with knowledge about crypto and crypto lotteries becomes more than the number without knowledge of it.

Most people who gamble or involve in lotteries do not even know what it is they are getting into. Motivation for them is the winning they hope to get and the cash incentives, nothing else. If those who gamble know they will loose, none of them will be gambling despite any form of knowledge they have on it. My first crypto gambling I took part in was at a time I did not even know what cryptocurrency was. What attracted me was the prize that I will win and that was how I got involved and lost that. Many people are like that, knowledge or not.

I don't remember any casino that allows their user to win up to a billion dollars but there are casinos that allow users to win up to a few hundred BTC.

But you are seeing it in completely wrong way, lotteries or casino are gambling in general so whoever is running that is not doing that for service just only for profits so does the national lottery as well so there are not really competing against each other in any way while the chances of winning national lottery will be thin according to how much people are participating so casino lottos are actually much better comparing those in terms of winning percentage but anyways those are negligible amount.

Lotteries offering huge money for the prize but the percentages to win those prizes is less than 1% but we all know Lotteries will never been lack of interest especially for National Lotteries because people always be excited to boughts the tickets for everyday and hoping to gets the jackpot although they know their chances to gets the prizes is very small and for online gambling which usually online casinos and this type of gambling is offering various games to satisfied the gamblers and the percentages to win for each bets is higher compared to Lotteries

Regarding the question i think yes that online gambling can compete against the Lotteries but only from the popularities because we all know currently almost every countries in the world know online gambling and the development of online gambling is very rapid even i am sure online gambling users are far more than lottery users but indeed some of old fashion gamblers are more likely to used the Lotteries rather than online gambling so that's why in the some countries some Lotteries users are dominated by older people

It can compete, but bettors will always prefer the national lotteries; here in our country, people have already betting on a lottery long before the inception of the internet or online casinos, and you cannot break the tradition even if these online casinos are well marketed.
Lottery bettors do not want to deviate from something they have been so familiar with for so many years, especially the old lottery bettors, and it's hard for these people to leave their traditions.

If it won't be too much of a hassle then of course I would prefer betting personally. However, this will be resting between individual's preference; some would of course be choosing convenience which is to bet online but some would be more into outlet betting. Eitherway would be fine but I think legitimacy is most likely with outlets than with online platforms which are prone to hacking.
maybe because the national lottery is supported by the government and more accessible to people even in remote areas, it makes the national lottery more users compared to online casinos. the rewards they offer are also usually very large and people can bet with just a few dollars. while online casinos, people need a cellphone, and not everyone understands to navigate online casinos from their devices, especially for the older generation, they are too lazy to use their devices just to play the lottery. so that might be the reason why the national lottery has more users and is more in demand by many people.
It has more people because many are used of doing such thing even as part of their routine especially the elders and I agree that not all people are tech savvy to bet casually on betting sites. People are also afraid of fines if they would be caught

I think that the ideology you have about the State, and the nation where you live, can be another key to prefer national lotteries versus online gambling. I mean, if someone is an anarchist or ultraliberal chances are that they wouldn't want to contribute to the wealth/power of the state by principle, and especially in the second case be more prone to favor a private company. On the other hand, if you live in an authoritarian country the effect could be the same.

On the other hand, in a country where a majority thinks that the government is doing things right (the paradigm of that feeling would be the one from Nordic countries), in addition to the increased safety about getting paid and last, but not least, bigger prizes, the effect would be the contrary.

Can online gambling compete with national lotteries?
Online gambling and lottery gambling Both are competitive, but that doesn't mean one will lose, both compete professionally and give each other a good chance for their users to win high amounts of money.
I've read about online gambling vs. lottery gambling, as far as I know, lottery is often played by those aged 50 and over, while online gambling is mostly visited by people in their 20s and over, such as sports betting, poker, slots and so on, Likewise, the jackpot offered is not half-hearted for those who are really lucky in ring gambling games, although lottery gambling also promises big money for one ticket, for those who are lucky.

My understanding is that both have their own appeal in terms of gambling, for the betting public, no matter the RTP available for both, what is clear is that competition between the two is normal and a natural thing to show their respective advantages.

The government are also supporting online gambling. Also that there are many people that are gambling online. In my country, you will see betting agents for people that do not have browsing phone to use agents to bet. You do not a phone or laptop or computer to gamble before you can have access to the gambling site. You can just use a betting agent. It is rear to see a street that will not have more than 1 betting agents.

I don't think so because casinos offer many different games while the Euromillions lottery has a marketing that makes it possible without much effort: the jackpot. The chances of winning the Euromillions jackpot are so low that on average if you lived a thousand years and played 2,5€ twice a week you wouldn't win. The maximum prize of the Euromillions, without jackpot, is 17 million euros, but as usually nobody wins, the jackpot is accumulated for the next one, and if you don't win, it is accumulated again. As the figures of the first prize become astronomical, people go crazy buying to get out of their shitty lives.

Casinos can't compete against that.

maybe because the national lottery is supported by the government and more accessible to people even in remote areas, it makes the national lottery more users compared to online casinos. the rewards they offer are also usually very large and people can bet with just a few dollars. while online casinos, people need a cellphone, and not everyone understands to navigate online casinos from their devices, especially for the older generation, they are too lazy to use their devices just to play the lottery. so that might be the reason why the national lottery has more users and is more in demand by many people.

What do you think? Would you buy tickets in a crypto lottery yourself? And would you prefer it over a state lottery?

I will and can support the Crypto lottery, but when it comes to preference, it's our state lottery; I have to support it, as a huge portion of the profit is allocated to our country's health sector, where I was once a beneficiary I asked this question to my friends who are lotto bettor,s and they all prefer our state own, for convenience and trust and better transparency.

I'm probably a big pessimist, but I would rather believe that I can win a lottery in some casino than in a state lottery. Yes, that advertising is carried out within the framework of the state, and the excitement for participation in it is huge. Still, history shows that for some reason, the winners are people who are very close to those who run the lottery. Coincidence? Hardly. Therefore, I repeat, it is more likely to win a big jackpot where there are no connections and everything is carried out the same for the players.

From my observation in my country, more gamblers are into national lottery than sports bet and probably online casinos too although I don't know if there's any data to proof it. I however don't think that online casinos and sports bet can compete with lottery in my country, because it is less complex to play, you don't need a long list of matches or predictions like sports bet, just get your ticket number and wait for the results. There are many lotto kiosks in most parts of my country than you will care to count and that shows the level of trust and patronage that lottery gets in Nigeria.

Nope they are not in competing class. National lotteries are more for  householders, retied persons and, generally, for folk with lack of vivacity. Online gambling is  favorite by the youth   obsessed  with Internet. Gambling in the  land casinos  is the preference of matured men who like jazz combo, whisky and  intricate atmosphere inside. Such is the gambling  classification as to   people involved  which I sense.

Online gambling can't compete with national lotteries because people still buy lottery until now. Many people hopes that they can wins from the lottery and if they are lucky, they can hit the jackpot and wins the big prize. I am not follow the news of crypto lottery but you can search for that casino that offers lottery.

People familiar with national lottery so that's why they still buy the lottery and hopes they can wins some money. Maybe people doesn't knows much about crypto lottery so they are not participate to buy the lottery ticket. For lottery game, I still prefer to buy at local store and not buy too much from crypto lottery. Besides that, not many casino offers lottery game on their site so maybe we can buy lottery ticket on local store.

Well, it depends because some National lotteries are For donation or some kind of charity that would help people in need. It is Most likely the case For some lotteries. So I’m curious what parameter you are looking for when comparing them both.

There is already a crypto currency lottery. I just forgot the name of the casino. It is mostly like that and I think it is hard to win. I won the three digit number I think and it’s just like giving you back the amount of money you have bet on. It was a long time ago.

It will be difficult to believe that an online lottery that is managed by individuals will be able to pay 120 million EUR if someone hits the jackpot. National Lotteries are backed by the National lottery Commission, so you will always get your wins. The issues of trust will affect crypto because people will trust government backed gambling platforms more than private ones. When it comes to coverage, national lotteries usually have more people staking, which is why they can be able to pay huge wins. But a crypto casino might not be able to gain enough bettors to cover the budget. It is possible that national lotteries can be manipulated if it are handled by corrupt administrators. However, there is no guarantee that the same incident cannot happen in a crypto lottery. I would have preferred crypto lotteries because of their accessibility and modernity, but the issue of trust is my only concern.

For what I have seen here in Italy, national lottery are not the same as in the past.
Even if there are rich prizes people are just not happy with this kind of games and they are trying to reach "fast" wins (like scratch cards or "Super enalotto" that has rich prize  like a lottery... weekly run...)

Online gambling has the advantage that is "quick". People are playing and can win fast cash.
Probably a crypto lottery based with blockchain it would be really fun for nerds and people that are still adopting bitcoin currency.
It’s just that these national lotteries are trying to collect a huge jackpot so that they can be heard from every news resource, newspaper, website, TV, etc. From this they receive free advertising and a huge number of views, even from those who are not very interested in it, which will become a trigger for many and a start to play the next time. After all, everyone would like to win such a huge amount.

As for me, I never play national lotteries and prefer to play only online as you said. The speed with which we find out the result is incredibly fast and online we find out the result almost instantly. The modern generation wants quick results and not waiting a week for results, and I completely agree with this.

Lottery has been a game designed to be a random public affair without the immunity of addiction such as maybe in gambling and then being regulated by the government body in whether state or national lottery.

The odd for the lottery seems higher than the gambling because the government is always richer than the individual owned casinos. Infact, the money in the lottery box is a public fund so such a higher odd can always be affordable to be giving away to the lucky winner and because the system is always raffled and shuffled, the chances to win becomes more difficult than gambling which your experience or predictions strategies may give you winning chances.

I have not heard of a lottery winner from the gambling sections neither have I learnt that the casinos do have the platform for lottery.

I think since the governments authorizes the lottery industries, knowing how fun and legitimate it has been on their custodies, they would not permit the casinos to apply it to their gambling network because believing gambling an individual owned network, they may redesign the lottery program personally to their profit interests while ticket purchasers are being used specifically to generate funds for the casino companies without issuing rewards approximately.
Just a thought though.

As long as they have the capacity and reputation, they can compete. Besides, the lottery is like free money, and putting up the capital is not a problem for big investors. The real issue is gaining the trust of bettors, as state-sponsored lotteries are more reliable, so bettors have more confidence in them. For an online lottery run by a private company, they should compete by offering bigger prizes or anything else that could entice the betting public to choose them. Without that, they won't be able to get a huge number of bettors, even if the jackpot is higher than the national lottery, as you've mentioned.

Additionally, I think it requires a license, and I don't believe the government would allow a private gambling company to compete with them. The income from public-owned lotteries is for the development of the country, so letting a gambling site compete with them would defeat that purpose.

What do you think? Would you buy tickets in a crypto lottery yourself? And would you prefer it over a state lottery?

When it comes to large lotteries where you can win 100+ million USD state run lotteries will always have an advantage. I don't think that crypto lotteries will be able to compete on such a scale, where they offer these returns every few weeks. The state run lotteries have so many regular gamblers, that it seems very hard for crypto lotteries to get anywhere close to that. The long history of state lotteries gives them such a big advantage. On top of that is the aspect of advertising in public news channels or store. Creating a similar marketing network today from scratch seems impossible, especially with government having bans on certain gambling activities. The taxes on lottery gambling each week are huge and the government would fight hard to protect them.
Of course, the government will not seem to let crypto casinos take their place. There will be a competition in the gambling system between crypto casinos and state lotteries. Yet state lotteries will surpass online casinos because they are backed by the government. The government rather see them succeed since they are paying huge taxes to them rather than the online casinos they cannot regulate or control physically.

If you asked me which one do I prefer? Ill tell you that ill go both ways. I win more at casinos than at lotteries. There are lots of rules and regulations in state lotteries and takes a brilliant mind to fully understand the game for one to win But online casino games are easy to understand.

I think you made a strong case in your post analyzing state offline lotteries and comparing them with online crypto lotteries. It was informative to read your thoughts on this matter.

The gambling industry is developing and this is confirmed by the fact that until relatively recently there were no online casinos. This suggests that offline national lotteries will also undergo changes in the near future. If CBDC is adopted throughout the world to replace traditional money, then it is likely that national lotteries will also take place using CBDC. Will this affect the increase in the probability of winning? I think no. Everything will remain at the same level: the organizers will get rich by promising multimillion-dollar prize funds, and the participants will be content with small winnings.

I'm not sure that casinos will agree that lotteries supported by cryptocurrencies will be fairly provable. Business is business, and somewhere the organizers still have to fool clients in order to make a profit. Of course, not directly, but by reducing the probability of winning.

The problem here is national lotteries are like a pot where people keep on dropping their money unlike how it goes with online gambling sites. Sure, they could also make a lottery game and I think freebitco.in had that kind of feature back when I was using their service but I don't know now. This kind of game is prone to scams or abuse especially if the one who will handle it is not reputable in the industry just yet.
I think that is why the government is the only one who had success in making a huge pot like that because the people know they cannot get away from it once someone claim the jackpot prize.
Can gambling sites compete with it? I think they can but it has to be a very reputable site for it to have more ticket buyers.

Yeah, there are really lottery gambling platform, but it didn't enjoy support as there are more questions to raised specially the reputation of the casino and it they won't rigged it and allow certain individuals to win and that's why it was not as popular as national or local lottery.

And as least for national lottery at least in my country, it is being showed in television, lived on how they draw the winning numbers and so people are glued to their seats to witness it and see how it goes for them. So the excitement is still there and just image seeing all your numbers being called and you know you've won the lottery, it will be a life changer.

For one usually the national or state lotteries are usually monopolies so there can't be competition. Which allows them to get huge. Also there's supposedly strict regulation and they have very long histories so people tend to trust them.

You are asking "Can a casino compete with a lottery?" and then you are basically answering your own question. Grin
Most national lotteries are monopolies, how could a casino compete against them? In a lottery, the big jackpot is what drives the people to buy lots of tickets, therefore increasing the jackpot and the lottery's revenue. Imagine every casino having it's own lottery. How could 100 lotteries gather a big jackpot, but competing against each other.
A casino has a different business model than a lottery. The lotteries rely on millions of people buying cheap tickets, while the casinos want to squeeze as much money as possible from a fairly small amount of gamblers(maybe several thousand gamblers at best).
That's why you can't compare a lottery to a casino.

I barely hear of the national lottery in my country. I know something like that exists but don't know if they are active or opened for just a few persons. And also know that most of mt friends wouldn't even know what the national lottery ticket looks like. But with online casinos, everyone knows about online casinos we visit one regularly. It would be easier to buy tickets in a crypto lottery. Aside its convenience, the thought of winning in crypto and having some wealth in crypto  considering our present economic challenges is enough motivation for them.

I don't want to guess how it is in other countries, but in my country, the lottery draw is in prime time on national television. A lot of people think it's fun, they have their numbers and they follow those shows, and hope for the best, alone or with friends. So it's no surprise at all why the lottery is so popular, but I wouldn't say I like it and I don't play it.

Online gambling has been around for a shorter time than the lottery, but the numbers are growing every year and I think they will catch up one day. It seems to me that younger generations play newer games more, they want faster results and more excitement. And that is what today's popular online casinos offer.

When we compare national lotteries and online gambling perhaps we will see differences in the number of players in these two types of gambling. We will see how quite a lot of people will choose the lottery because it is more easily accessible in many stores and the price is also cheap, and the rewards are high and it is supported by the government, that is what makes more people motivated to play the lottery.  However, I myself am not really interested in playing state lotteries, besides being banned in my country, crypto lotteries are easier for me to access and I don't need to pay taxes when I win - the convenience offered by crypto lotteries is what makes me prefer to play that.

If governments promoted online casinos, then yes but a lot of countries have laws against online gambling, but lotteries are very accessible all over the country and the results are even televised so it will be difficult to get online casino to compete with lotteries.

I think a big part of the reason why national lotteries are so popular is because online gambling is new and not allowed everywhere, whereas national sponsored lotteries are obviously legal. I believe this will change as online gambling becomes more popular and offers better competition to traditional gambling options.

The first issue is if such a thing is legal at all, which I doubt because as you state lotteries are state monopolies and they are not going to like for a private corporation to try to compete with them.

And the second and most important problem is that such a lottery will take place over many different countries, so the casino that tried to do this will have to comply with all of those laws, something very difficult as I doubt any single country has the same standards for their lotteries.

I am pretty sure the people that play the state lotto are completely different people who go to a physical casinos and those are completely different people who do online gambling. I dont think online gambling is a risk for any national or state lotteries.

Usually its mostly old people who play state lotteries, whenever I see someone buying a ticket its usually some old gramma. If its a young person they usually buy those scratch off tickets instead. And if you go to a physical casino its a mix of pretty much everybody.

Online gambling casinos are mostly geared towards males towards the younger side, you need to have a knowledge of computer at least, which is something most seniors lack.

The advantage of national lotteries is that the ticket is very cheap and yet the prize is very huge. So, regardless of the extremely low probability of winning, bettors continue to buy. It's money they can afford wasting anyway. It has, therefore, become a self-sustaining cycle.

The problem with crypto lotteries is that for the prize to be big enough, the price per ticket will also have to big. Although it would also mean a higher winning probability, if entries are simply unaffordable, many wouldn't be betting. In your example, 0.01BTC for a chance to win 100BTC is simply too high for an ordinary bettor like me.

For me yes, since most days, there are more transparencies in the cryptocurrency market especially if the lottery is done.
The best thing is the provable fiar technology which crypto can utilize the blockchain technology. Next is lower transaction fees and faster transactions.

Idk, it depends I guess? I'm basing this off of the current lottery buyers that we have. I'm assuming they're of around middle to older age? At least that's what I've seen from my nearby lotteries. You'd almost always see people above age 35s to 50s hanging around there buying lottery tickets after their grocery runs or something similar.

Still this doesn't mean online lotteries would have no customers, there's still most likely going to be a significant number buying them out. Just that if I were to be asked whether one can oust the other, I don't think so.

Quote
A lottery running by a crypto enabled casino would have a technological advantage in having the possibility to run on a provably fair manner whereas national lotteries these days are often ran with virtual draws that can't be verified to be random. That along with the ease of use of accessing the purchase of tickets from your personal device could also be considered an added benefit.

The majority of people are used to lotteries to drawings used by the government people can see how they unfold and if they see anomalies it will harm the reputation of the government so when it comes to numbers, online lotteries cannot compete with state-run lotteries, they cannot make a mistake and must be 100% transparent and they have the means to pay the winners with whatever amount is at stake.
And I think that's OPs point? What people see are only limited to what the government shows them. There are tons of ways to fool the eye lol. Compare that to provably fair manner which can be verified from your(or anyone) side.

It can but the level of trust is always in lotteries handled by the state government, the government cannot make a mistake because the whole nation will lose trust in how the government manages their affairs so they will be as transparent as possible, and Besides the majority of the people in one's country are not online players they prefer to buy their ticket in a physical station.

I would not mind to participate in a state sponsored lottery, it is very cheap and there are always a minimum chance to change one's life for good, but I am also compelled to participate on online Bitcoin lotteries, mostly because in most of the occasions, the process to select the winners is supposed to be verifiable and provably fair, the result can be easily derived from an algorithm of cryptographic digest / hash function, and the entropy can be verifiable as well. As a side note, if my local government decided to start a state sponsored lottery, I would not participate on it, because it had been already proven in countless times how corrupt they are, and their willingness to cheat to get all their way.
On the other hand, if I lived in the European Union, I would feel safer to buy tickets issued by the state, for now I will have to stick to the free tickets one can get by wagering at Stake's casino. They have got a weekly lottery.

What a comparison here! Online gambling grants various access to different varieties of games which is more profitable to gamblers, lets also talk about the bonuses and vouchers that can never be found in traditional national lotteries. When it comes to offering full gambling services then I think online gambling is the best deal. Although I acknowledge National Lotteries for the long-standing reputation and government regulations that make it possible for people who are into gambling there to gamble responsibly. So national lotteries promote more responsible gambling while online gambling makes one more addicted because he has full control.

National lotteries have being in existence for a very long time and the huge amount to be won is also encouraging which makes it have more people on its side because you don't need to stress yourself when you want to play lottery as it is everywhere. You are in the mall for shopping supermarket and many more places, you can easily have access to them even when you don't plan on gambling. National/State lottery has built trust on the people and most people prefer it than online gambling because they see it as a norm. Online gambling just came out recently and the casinos are in business which will make them not give you a huge win with very little amount of money.
