So basically merit is not worth more than posts. I still don't understand one thing, did I see a thread earlier that said "I bought 10 merit, will give to different high-quality posts", can you actually buy merit and if so what is the point then?
No, you can't buy merit. Probably that guy earned that from his posts. Merit buying isn't allowed.

But there are members here who are willing to review posts to distribute their sMerit to other members. Who's that guy that said he actually bought 10 merit?

Basically, the merit system was created to reduce Spam and Low-quality posts, and also to improve post quality to be better
rank up won't be easy than before, You will be proud if you have ranked up with your effort (good poster) without buying merits

Sales of merits on this forum are generally frowned upon and you will usually be tagged with negative red reputation if you're caught trying to buy merit, and merit is absolutely worth more than posts if you're interested in ranking up on this forum, as merits are a requirement for ranking up as AhmadM quoted. The post you saw before is likely a sort of merit giveaway where people quote their 'best' posts and attempt to get merits for the posts in question, not a merit sale.

Hi guys! I've been in bitcointalk for quite some time already but i had not been active for the past few weeks probably. I just want to know why I went back from being "Newbie"

I think you have posted on the wrong board, you have to post this kind of thread in Meta or Beginners & Help board.

Merit:

In addition to Activity you now need Merit to achieve each rank. The required merit is detailed below:

Brand new: 0
Newbie:   0
Jr Member: 1
Member: 10
Full Member: 100
Sr. Member: 250
Hero Member: 500
Legendary: 1000

The reason why you become "Newbie" again after you are not active in this forum for few weeks because you don't have any merit points on your account. You should have at least 1 merit point for rank up to become Jr. Member.

Yes Sir. You are a newbie because you don't have Merits. And before you ask 'How do i get Merits?' i will answer this for you.

Merits are given from normal users to the posts who deserve it. If someone likes your post then he will give you Merits. So, i recommend you to post some good quality stuff asap to get your first merit and recover your Jr Member status.
