I did not followed it up but weeks ago, I saw images in my threads shown again and guessed theymos did something.
You are right that the images on iimgur can be seen but I don't know how long it was shown until the images are no longer displayed. Well, the only thing I can think of is to reupload the images in another website like Imgur and change the link so that the images will be seen by everyone who are trying to view the thread. It's a good thing that there's an alternative to imgur that we can use.

What I am sure of is that there is a thread somewhere and some smarty pants is going to kindly share the link to that thread because I have yet to find it! I'm sure i've missed some huge memo on this or something somewhere. But could someone please explain to me why those image source codes no longer work, and tell me which ones do?

Yeah, but it shows how inactive you have been; if not, you would not have missed the topics that have already been shared and also when theymos created a poll on how to solve the error images due to the Imgur problem. You might also have missed the thread for the talkimg.org that was created for Bitcointalk users to host their images.

Yeah honestly i've seen posts about it here or there, have not paid much attention to it until I actually needed to post an image lol. Its easier to get a few snarky remarks along with the right info, I did check the search bar for "posting images" or "images" I saw that one post on the new talkimg one or whatever its called created by a forum user- all my pics were high resolution so I needed to resize all that shit, life happened and I didn't have time to get to it all so sue me lol. I wish we could just upload our pictures directly on here, like strip all other data and just post the image like it posts an image on FB or any other social media site but i'm sure its definitely not as easy as it sounds, I mean shoot why doesn't Btalk just create its own image hosting service just for its users? This could even branch out a bit to help drive more traffic to this site and create even more ad revenue, just a thought....

I lost the track of that topic. Did theymos introduce any of the options that we discussed there?
I did not followed it up but weeks ago, I saw images in my threads shown again and guessed theymos did something.

In fact, checking his posts today, he did not change anything.
It looks like imgur is no longer blocking the image proxy. I didn't change anything on the forum's end, so imgur must've loosened up their limits. I guess it's not necessary to convert img images into links as long as imgur keeps working. But to prevent this from happening again, you'll get an error if you try to embed imgur images in posts from now on.

I'd like to create a page which recommends services for hosting forum images, and mention this in the error message you get when you try to use imgur. Other than TalkImg, which ones are good?

It lasted a few days and images returned to be invalid. Also another issue
to prevent this from happening again, you'll get an error if you try to embed imgur images in posts from now on.
This also means old posts can no longer be edited without replacing the image links (I just tested it).

It's based on the message ID. Posts before roughly when I posted that can be edited without updating the imgur links.

I can click on a quote on any topic and I will get the link to the image and then open it in any browser, but the problem is with closed threads where I can't quote anything.
If imgur continues to host the images without deleting them, then without using any script, the problem will be in locked threads only, and these threads can activate the quote in the future.

Users who cared for their posts already migrated to other image hosting or some other solutions so their posts do not look out of context.   But, this is not enough, most images still remain untouched and is not good solution for forum thats's old as this.

I know this is pretty random but I can't help but mention this, I feel like so many old posts will be taken out of context now since Btalk won't allow us to use that imgur BBcode, i'm not sure why. Everyone used it, and now there is some other preferred method? I never thought pictures could be so complicated. What I am sure of is that there is a thread somewhere and some smarty pants is going to kindly share the link to that thread because I have yet to find it! Maybe you have not been so conversant with the solutions already provided on this subject matter after several discussions have been made on it, maybe you check these as follows

TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/talkimgcom-image-hosting-for-bitcointalk-5450546

Poll on solving the imgur issue
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/poll-on-solving-the-imgur-issue-5453101

If you have any questions or challenges in uploading your images then try to read more on those threads and learn the possible way out for yourself, the thread created by Theymos also constitute poll to receive your own feedback onthe lasting solution to this before conclusion.

If you're worried about your posts being taken out of context, you don't have to embed the link, you can just paste the link by itself.

The Imgur blocking the forum images was a issue and all the old posts containing BBcode embedded images now shows invalid image proxy error but we have very good alternative to it https://talkimg.com/ developed by @joker_jouse so forum users can upload without any problem and depending on these third party software for hosting images.

I don't know what to say. Because I was going to make a post like this but you preceded it. So I can only comment

I agree with you
If we don't have something to say or someone has already answered it the way were going to do and don't have something more to contribute we simply leave it nothing much.Just a normal advice to you.

The forum has a search option, and someone who has been on the forum for a long time should use such options if they are interested in something. Besides, Meta is not a board that has any restrictions in the sense that you should not regularly check what is happening on the forum.
The forum search gives kind of messy results which could be hard for newbies to get the desired threads links although they could apply different filters to make search more effective. But in turn it could be more useful if they directly do google search with forum keyword at last that will direct them to related threads like this one:

Code:
 Imgur issue on bitcointalk
Imgur images not displaying bitcointalk

This can help them to have some sorted results rather then looking on forum directly that can be confusing for them but they could also use https://ninjastic.space/ for more information.

Alternatively, you have some websites but after what happened with ingur.com, forum members prefer TalkImg.com because it is owned by a forum member.

The problem lies with beginners or guests who use the forum for the first time. When they visit the forum, they will not be able to know how to search and use this script, and therefore they may ignore the information contained in that thread and search for another place to get answers.

I hope to find a solution to this problem, as most of us may have known the forum for the first time when we was looking for a solution to a problem.

I am still shocked to see that you haven't witnessed about the sudden changes of images till date, and you are active on the forum and also on a campaign. Those who are that active knowns about the changes of image and the new image hosting site they have shared with us here to be using. Anyway to upload image you can still use https://imgbb.com/ few people already share the reason above.

The answer to your question lies in one these threads.

[get yours] Images from imgur + All links to your own posts
[Windows] Automate downloading TalkImg backup files
[Script] Imgur to TalkImg - automatically fix your broken images

Those threads above are some of the threads where the image issue has been discussed.

and here's a quote from themos on the issue

I think that what it is is that imgur added a new very restrictive per-IP limit on image downloads. So all ip.bitcointalk.org requests are blocked, but even many Tor exit nodes are being blocked, for example.

I know this is pretty random
It's not random anymore, there are so many several threads like this asking help regarding this issue and every thread there are answers and alternative solutions mentioned. I don't know if you use google or not but the chance of google showing those kind of threads are pretty high.

Even theymos ask a poll[1] regarding it months ago.

Most recommended sites for alternative are talkimg and imgbb.
