Just to be clear, I wasn't using the stock market sectors as a guideline of how Altcoins should be categorized, I was just using them as an example.

I'd guess some of the Altcoins sectors would overlap, (like "financial" could include Ripple, SALT, Tether, DigixDOA) .... and some would not apply at all, like "utilities" ... others could perhaps be combined into something like "business services" (Storj, BAT, Metal the healthcare ICOs, etc.), and new sectors like "Pure Currency" or "Platforms" would be needed.

For those familiar with stocks, you are probably aware that the stock market is divided in 10 main sectors, ... financials, industrials, utilities, energy, healthcare, etc...

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a website or project that has broken down altcoins by sectors ... or if anyone has considered what the major sectors could be (pure currency, platforms, gambling, etc.), what coin is the sector leader, etc.

Could be an interesting project.

Well there are these sectors, but the research you have to do more or less for yourself. there are already ico site where you have these short infos like: gambling, financial, real estate, network, cloud, and so on. The problem there is just, that they dont have all the ICO on there, because there are daily new ones...

Not very proficient with those terms but Nifty is all I trust in or stay updated with.

Sounds like an interesting project indeed. But I doubt a lot of ICO's would make up the list since we barely have two ICO's in the healthcare sector (at least that I know of). What is the end goal of the project anyway ? You want to just organise them or allow buying/selling tokens ?

You have coins focused on storage, gambling, creating and servicing smart contracts, anonymity, pure currency, charity, Decentralized Exchanges, Super computing, quantum computing and advertising. Some of those you could combine, and maybe create 1 or two categories more. I don't know if coins that are in the same sector suffer the same effects as seen in the Stock Market. For instance I have seen Storj rise while Sia falls.

Good questions, but altcoins are a new deal yet, many things coin change in the future, but now it's time at least to try a classification
