Hi everyone, I am a new user so I don't know much about here. But one thing I noticed here is there's no option to delete our own accounts (sorry if there is). I feel like there should be an option for us to do the same. And with deletion of our accounts should delete our posts and threads.

There are many scammers who might benefit from it but those are exceptions and it would also provide a opportunity for people loving a kind of privacy Cheesy like for those who are banned permanently, wouldn't they be able to delete their accounts and delete their thousands of posts instead of letting people know their stuffs even when they are banned?!

I think this option or action should be done by the administrator of the forum. Deleting of account will give more room to scammers out there to come in different forms and styles.

Even if your account was to be deleted, there are still backups, there multiple people scraping the forums on an ongoing basis, and if you clean your outbox, your PM recipients will still retain the messages in their inboxes.

I somehow don't think the OP is concerned with backups off site or whereever.  Not sure why a handful of posts matter unless it's an alt (surprise, surprise) and they've been sprung doing something they don't want a trace left of?

It also hasn't occurred to the OP that all they need do is delete every last post they've ever made...

It may take them a while, but their posts will be gone which is what they want in a roundabout mannor.

And then what? We can no longer trace back if a new account and that banned account got the same user? A big no for this. Even tons of abandoned accounts are stucked here, it is helpful somehow because we can use it for referencing. It makes hunting untrustworthy people here a lot easier Smiley.

Bitcointalk forum doesn't support account deletion but you can delete your posts although there are some posts that can't be deleted like my friend where he wanted to delete the post and couldn't delete it. If account deletion is implemented then the threads you created and posts you made will be deleted. If you want a privacy and if one of your post contains your twitter link for example or facebook then you can delete the post and just leave the rest for prooif if needed.

That's the effect if you join the Bitcointalk Forum, you should before registering and joining here think 1999 times think, if your goal finally wants to delete your account here.

The bitcointalk forum covers almost all countries in the world and officially has laws and laws, "registered accounts cannot be deleted or destroyed". It's all to be archived, as evidence and along with the IPs that have accounts, from each country.

OP, overall so that you understand more, the Bitcointalk Forum is almost the same as you open an account book at a bank, even if you don't use or don't save anymore at the bank, regarding your identity cannot be deleted or destroyed after registering at the Bank, your data remains intact as evidence (archived). You understand what I mean.
This is to anticipate things that are not desirable against acts of crime.

Bottom line: if you don't use an account in this forum anymore, you can leave, and start your new life without thinking of your account again in this forum.
Just think of it as your past memories in the BitCointalk forum, if you think in a healthy way.

There is no option to delete accounts in the bitcoin forum but you can still delete and edit your posts and threads depending on where you post them.

I feel like there should be an option for us to do the same. And with deletion of our accounts should delete our posts and threads.
No, I dont think so. If the forum has a feature to delete user accounts then there are a number of things that might happen, IMO.
  • No scammer account can be found because it has been deleted.
  • Someone with a bad reputation can easily delete their account and create a new one and e.t.c

Interest in specific topic (e.g. gambling and politic) can be considered as personal information
If you care about your privacy, don't post about things that you don't want people to know.
Oh shit, I have been doing it for a long time, lol but that is true.

There is no option yet here, but you can do it, it will just take a lot of time if you have thousands of posts if you ask me I don't want that feature, this is a warning to scammers that they can get ban but all their posts are retained and people will read their methods of scamming which will benefit members of this forum.

<…> There are always database for this kind of website and all of the information we have here are all in the database, that is why if you already here the word "there is no DELETE in the virtual world" because all things are in the database.
Technically, it’s not a problem at all to delete a bunch of records from a single relational database (backup copies are another matter). It really boils down to legislation (if and when applicable) and will. Some accounts in the past, and under singular circumstances, have been renamed or anonymized, but that is not going to be a generalized feature.

People can already delete (most) of their posts and throw away the key, although that is not enough if one want’s to really erase all traces of his/her activity here: posts get quoted, and copied to archive sites or even to phishing clones every now and then.

I have seen many questions about this thread, if you are going to use the search engine above you will see some of the results. We cannot delete our account in this forum, even though there is delete button for the account of this forum, our account will still sort in the back end of this forum. There are always database for this kind of website and all of the information we have here are all in the database, that is why if you already here the word "there is no DELETE in the virtual world" because all things are in the database.

This forum isn't the place for privacy-people, at least it's the user's responsibility to do so by using privacy stuffs.
I don't think so, privacy is really important for every people in this world. We have different perception in our life, there are some things that are nothing for us but really important to others.

I suppose it's a fair assumption in some parts of the world due to the GDPR legislation including a "right to be forgotten", so many websites do have the option available.  But, since Bitcoin users aren't exactly renowned for their eagerness to cooperate with government bureaucracy, that particular legislation is not recognised on these boards.

I think its not but its up to users way on how they can prevent leaking any private information when doing posting and dealing with other users such as transaction, or any private deals.
Yeah, that's what I'm talking on the user's responsibility to use privacy stuff.

For example on section collectibles there are a lots of raffles there for such items and obviously the winner should sent his address to be able to receive his prize, from there we can already realized that privacy has been breached already unless he will use middle grounds such as remittance to claik it there instead of his own address. There are people doing this probably to safe their personal privacy but not all.
But it isn't necessary to put your own name and current/permanent address, you can use your close relatives' info in doing that.

Interest in specific topic (e.g. gambling and politic) can be considered as personal information

This is true, but there should be no link between your real life identity and your forum profile (except you deem it necessary). Someone would not track the interests and activities of an online personality that cannot be utilized outside a specific forum. Lots of newbies do not understand this and when opening an account would use their real names and input lots of information on their profile, like; email address that could link back to them.
There has been cases of requests to change usernames being accepted, but they don't happen often.
I think newbies should be informed on the importance of privacy protection and how to go about it. Maybe, the newbie welcome message would come in handy soon.

I think if there was an option to delete the account, the harm/evil would be more than the benefit and the scammers would benefit more.  They would scam with an account and delete the account. Since there is no option to delete the account or change the username, so there is a permanent proof of scam with an account.

18. Having multiple accounts and account sales are allowed, but account sales are discouraged.

However, if you need, you can use multiple accounts but don't break the rules of the forum.

Maybe for some people we can have a slight idea about their likes depend on the sections they were posting. But sometimes, such rule in signature requires you to post on gambling section where the guy is not really into but due to that he is posting there. So this is explicitly not applied IMO.

Even if you delete your posts, there are many scrapper (owned by search engine or member of this forum) and archival website which store your past posts.

If you care about your privacy, don't post about things that you don't want people to know.

His post history doesn't have anything personal though.

It wouldn't happen.

it would also provide a opportunity for people loving a kind of privacy Cheesy

This forum has strict rules for users who are banned and ban evading so it will not happen. It's much better to leave their footprints like that.

No, you can't. If you use the search engine you will find a lot of similar questions.
Sometimes the mods nuke a profile, then all of the posts and threads get deleted, but this applies only for Newbies.
Leaving evidence of scamming is important, or just keep good posts from which others can benefit is why not everyone get nuked.
You can delete all of your posts (if possible), edit the threads to "." and then you can lock your account > https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.54334643
