Topic: Can we get rid of at least half the threads appearing on the newbie board please (Read 280 times)

Once in a while I see Newbies open topics in Meta, which are actually simple questions and suit better for the Beginners & Help board.  It would make sense to restrict Newbies in the Beginners and Help board.
With the current implementation this isn't really the case. If a newbie has a question relating to the forum then it belongs in Meta as it's a forum issue. If they have a question which is considered well known to more veteran members then it belongs in Beginners and help.

I believe this is one of the only exceptions were a question that is considered newbie would belong outside of Beginners and help. I report any questions relating to the forum in the Beginners and Help section that I believe belong in Meta, and the moderation team seem to agree.

The concept of a newbie 'jail' is great, the name is terrible. It might get more support if the board was called "The newbie club", or " New member introductions". Alternatively, just restrict new members to the Beginners and Help, and moderate the board.

I agree that newbie jail is probably a bad way to go about calling it as it probably influences peoples opinions due them associating jails with being bad. I was just calling it that because thats what people know it as.

I have brought up similar issues along with several other people and recently suggested bringing back the newbie jail. Does not seem the community likes this approach and is just willing to allow the forum plunge into chaos. Its a nightmare navigating the forum.

The altcoin boards have zero value in them now as there just spammed with a few threads asking the same question "whats the best ico to invest in now?" and bitcoin discussion is going down the same route and you can no longer have an actual discussion in there because the signature spammers will look for a thread which has a low amount of replies and spam the first thing that comes to their mind and move onto the next.

Serious discussion is the only saving grace at the moment but we all know  that its just not populated enough because of the restrictions on it and people dont want to post on it because they are not earning.

Signature campaigns that are badly run by their managers are ruining this forum slowly but surely. These days someone might as well and make a guide on what boards to ignore.

It seems to be full of off topic threads about ICOs Airdrops, bounty, Twitter, and there is even one poster who has opened a pharmacy there.
All these threads are unfair to the genuine new members who arrive expecting to learn about Bitcoin and crypto-currencies.

This is annoying. This week has been like a spam fest in every area of the forum. Just take a look at meta, with all these banned spammers crying all over.
The Beginners section is annoying as well. I did see the "pharmacy", and also, if you read the post, the guy even admits the text they put was a copy-paste from some other place...
Too much work to mods only. I've been reporting as never in my life.

Totally agree with it. Effort of reporting could be useless if everyday a new account will spam every section. People wanting to improve the forum will tirelessly report these members. Hope there will be a bigger move on this. We all know the problem comes from. Long term solutions should be implemented.

I haven't awarded many merits recently, and I'm feeling a bit guilty.

I've got so much going on with my increasing interest in politics in the the UK. The Brexit scam by the government, the child grooming gangs, and the banking manipulations are just the start. I'm also trying to sort  out my domain name portfolio, and sell off some of the ones that I don't want.

The banking system is starting to unravel across the world, and I hope that Bitcoin Talk will become the place to discuss the emerging 'official' crypto-currencies. We'll need to create some new boards, or clean up the old ones if this is to happen though.

there is even one poster who has opened a pharmacy there.
Say what?  Not that I'm really all that surprised, as I've seen people trying to sell ADHD meds and veterinary drugs here before, as well as some benzos and weird herbal things.

Jet Cash, unless you're on B&H looking for posts to merit, I would suggest giving that section a very wide berth.  It might (or might not) be great for the noobs, but it's soul-killing for anyone who's been here a while.  All you get there are people who can't or won't read, search, think, or write coherently.  There's really no reason for anybody but spamming noob alt accounts to be there.  Even real newbies who have a genuine interest in learning would very quickly find it useless.

Having said that, I agree with you.  Most of the content there should be purged from the internet.

Not just those (there's too many repetitive guides/tutorials as well).
- The issue is, no one uses the "Report to moderator" button (it's a two way system, we can't expect the moderators to see/do everything by themselves).

I did see the "pharmacy", and also, if you read the post, the guy even admits the text they put was a copy-paste from some other place...
Report it "here".

I too agree Sir Jets. I think we should really get rid of them. What just happened here is

expectiing to learn about Bitcoin and crypto-currencies.
not really is "Learning" but already "SPAMMING". If these new members really want to learn more about crypto currencies, they'll definitely find another way than spamming the forum. I'm pretty sure that not all of these Newbies are stupid but why don't they try to use GOOGLE sometimes. This forum is not a search engine to just expect that they can find everything here.

Besides that, I also agree that we should add more moderator to some of our sections where these shitposters hides. Just like in Bitcoin Discussion, I knew that Sir hilarious is doing his job fine but as a Gloval Moderators and as human, he have some business to keep running besides from moderating.

Sorry to ask that, but hasn't the forum grown too huge to be still under control ?
It seems, obviously, that there's a lack of moderation (and sometimes a lack of administration governance also), but doesn't that disclose a lack of delegation from Theymos ?

I don't want to appear brutal, but sometimes, it seems to me that the forum is like an hydra with multiple heads and that it's impossible to cut the evil ones...
