So are trying to say that a more proper place to delve into the "Deep Alt Coin Scene" would be a dedicated alt coin forum and that your feelings wouldn't be hurt at all if 90% of the alt crowd just up and left from Bitcointalk?
On the contrary, our feelings would be bliss from the massive drop in traffic we'd see for an effectively offtopic discussion.

The traffic to the alt-sub is that substantial? Sorry it is just odd hearing an admin wishing traffic would go down  Wink

But it is a cesspool of nonsense mostly. And I've never had a developmental discussion about the different techniques of copy / paste. The one or two post that actually are developmental in nature get buried so fast it's not worth it.

Maybe the topics in the Alt-coin section could destruct old school mission impossible style

Like there is any real development going on there.

That, IMO, is one of the problems that this is needed to address.  Making people aware of dev discussion *should* instill some expectations about dev actually happening.  At least, I'd sort of hope so.

Welcome to the SaltySpitoon, how Tough are ya?
Keep in mind, I'm probably one of the most Pro Altcoin people here, however it is getting rediculous. Truth be told, we can't handle the Alt Coin traffic here. All of the issues people have and the bitching and moaning brought on by Alt Coin topics, as well as the spam that leaks to out of the Alt Coin section, not to mention the scams (I'm not talking about coins that you disagree with) but I mean the people that just throw money into anything, and then complain to me after they have been ripped off... Its exausting *catches breath from my e-rant*

I don't want to tell all of the Altcoin people to go away, I want them to take the Majority of their Alt Coin discussion elsewhere. We can take the Alt Coin announcements, important announcements by the developers, major breakthroughs, new services, etc, but with everything else piled ontop... its, well, exausting.

The solution is not to get rid of the section, or to ban altcoin conversation, its to suggest that people create their own forums for their own dedicated coins, and take as much conversation there as possible.

But if we're not talking about any single coin?

Seriously, if someone wants to talk about alternative schemes for how to use proof-of-stake to secure a blockchain, there isn't a particular coin which that's about.  There isn't a particular coin's forum that it ought to go on.  And it isn't a failing of any particular coin's community that such a thing doesn't exist.

If the objective here is to host development discussion for absolutely nothing except bitcoin, I guess I can respect that.  But I would think it's a real shame to maintain a situation where there's no central development board that's common to cryptocurrency in general and a shame to support the fragmentation of the development community such that developers aren't likely to have heard about theory and discussion created in other cryptocurrency contexts.

Well it is Bitcointalk. hosting development discussion for Bitcoin is kind of the MO. The general stance of the Bitcoin forum to Alternative Chains is neutral. We don't really care what they do one way or another. If they want to utilize what we already have setup, fine, but we aren't going to jump through hoops to accomodate them. There are altcoin forums out there already where the proper sections already built.

The problem with that is that there is only a single altcoin that any such forum is devoted to.  The need I had hoped for this forum to address is that of a forum for discussing the development of cryptocurrencies in general.

This forum doesn't especially care to cater to alt coins, its just sort of supposed to be a stepping stone until a coin can create its own forums. Take advantage of this forum's huge community and post important announcements here, but making your own forum should be a really high priority.

Or just take the discussion to ___cointalk!

Most forms of "development" discussion are not in fact welcome in subforums of the "bitcoin" section because outside of a very narrow range, such discussion is discussion of something which is not *EVER* going to become part of Bitcoin itself.

This is not a good reason to avoid discussing it at all - but it is nearly impossible to pick any useful dev discussion out of the altcoin forums because effectively all threads in those forums are devoted to particular altchains, and these threads have a rate of new posts that rapidly drives all discussion about development off the leading pages.

Therefore I believe that a "technical and development" subforum is needed under "altcoins."
