Actually there is no discussion is happening in most of the threads, most of them were filling their minimum quota to get the payment from their signature campaigns so they even don't read the OP they were just commenting just common things to fill up to one or two lines. So it is better to delete those dead threads will stop the spammers by filling up their pages. All we can do is just report the spamming or irrelavent posts so it will be deleted by the moderators.

I say that after 3 pages, see if there is any actual conversation going on and if not, lock it.
Absolutely. Most of the posts there doesn't have any actual discussion going on and is mostly just a heaven for the shitposters. I've stopped going there already. IIRC, some of those threads were either locked or moved to offtopic.
Another handy change would be to block bumping old threads (ones that haven't had a reply for six months). If there is a news update on the topic. then a new thread with a link to the old one would be more productive.
If the thread is very old, you can try reporting it as a necrobump. They would most likely be removed.

I once suggested that we had a tired old threads board. The threads could be moved onto that, and they could continue to get views for the forum. The index space on the original board would then be freed for more useful topics.

If its a coin or website announcement, fine.  They can have as many pages as they like.  However its the pointless threads that rack up huge numbers of pages without really adding anything to the conversation.  There is one in Bitcoin>Discussion about how someone was going to sell their house and buy bitcoin.  It is up to 42 pages!!  The author only commented twice and that was a month ago.  It hangs around the front page as people keep commenting on it and they only comment on it as it is always on the front page.  You can't win.  I say that after 3 pages, see if there is any actual conversation going on and if not, lock it.
