Just imagine, this is an old school forum, people need to get used to it before they can start to shitpost a lot...
If the UI would allow to post as simple as FB or other social media sites, there would not be possible to hire enough mods to stop the spam...

If such thing will be applied, we don't need to stake Bitcoin address, because people mostly self-disclose their identities on Facebook. They don't care about their identities can be used (abused) to steal their funds and lots of others shady things. In other words, Facebook need as many new (real) users as possible, the forum does not. What the forum need is as many quality users as possible, we don't need to see new (real) shitposters.

Last time I checked Bitcointalk is still a forum an not a social networking site. The difference is big because they cater to different audience and they are used on a different way. Mixing a Facebook U.I. like elements on a forum would be a bad idea as it would attract the wrong kind of audience and it will feel like BCT has a different purpose. Plus you are also a newbie you really don't know what you are saying right now, you don't even have the right to demand it.

Using facebook UI on bitcointalk will be nothing than shit.
Forums should be simple as it is. Forums are for discussion and sharing information not for attracting users from their design.

Facebook is already becoming shit as it deserve. Their interface is full of information which users really don't need.

I believe Yes! This coin will be a game changer. As it is backed up a few big companies like PP, Master card and Coinbase etc. Also, more than 2.2 Billion people who are using Social media will be using it, It surely going to take down bitcoin.
I believe No! Because the Whitepaper of Libra presents that fact that the coin will destroy core idea of crypto currencies, and it is too far away from decentralization. We don't need centralized crypto currencies. Someone can launch such coins, like Libra, and those coins might survive, grow well, and accepted, but to replace bitcoin, and other powerful, widely accepted decentralized crypto currencies. I would say No! Crypto Newbies will easily accept Libra, but they will sooner or later realize their mistakes by using a centralized coin. Facebook, itself is a centralized social media platform. Together, using Facebook and Libra put users under high risks of ID leaks.

Will Libra be able to replace Bitcoin? I believe it won't. So, I don't think we should ask the question in OP, because both Facebook and its coins, Libra are worse than bitcointalk.org, and Bitcoin, respectively. Facebook platform also does not have good systems to control their quality of their community posts. Actually, they have reports but such things are not enough for huge platform like Facebook. Reporters should have rewards from their good reports.

I believe Yes! This coin will be a game changer. As it is backed up a few big companies like PP, Master card and Coinbase etc.

And that exactly why we should stay away from it; we are talking about actual (credit) PRIVATE companies creating their own money.

Fiat money does at least come from democratically elected governments (public institutions) so even if it's not perfect, it can be controlled, and is meant to be "for the people".

Private companies are there to make money. Users don't matter. So this is a whole new level of economic liberalism (which is kind of horrible to see).

I'm not sure if that's sarcasm (Poe's law) but...

Libra isn't going to take down Bitcoin just like none of the other ALTs and stable coins did. There will ALWAYS have a space for Bitcoin or any possible cryptocurrency that takes btc down futurely. Libra isn't just an "coin backed up by big companies"; it is also CONTROLLED by them. They can issue new coins and possible will even be able to block funds or rollback the chain. You can't do that with Bitcoin because no one controls it fully.

Many people will use Libra for their daily needs (possibly billions), but there will always be a community that cares more about privacy and safety than convenience.

Being like Facebook shouldn't be an aspiration. It's a corporate data-vampire hell buried beneath an aggressively friendly veneer. Honestly whichever way Facebook goes, you're best going in the opposite direction.

This forum is simple and functional. It's fine as it is.

What makes you think Bitcointalk would work well with Facebook's UI?
Delusions and/or serious brand loyalty to Facebook, which I find sickening.

I love the old school user interface here.  It's so insanely simple to use and does exactly what it's supposed to do without having so many god-awful features to confuse the attention-deficit kiddos (and myself).  Frankly I hope the new software never comes out and the look never changes one iota.  It's been this way since the beginning if I'm not mistaken, and at the very least it's the same since I got here 4 years ago.  I'm not crazy about change when it comes to websites I visit frequently.

no need to change anything here. if someone wants to have fb UI, then you can gladly go to fb. this is what this forum sets apart from the rest. very simple yet very useful. we dont need good aesthetic features to serve the purpose of this forum

Coming from a guy who only joined three days ago I think you aren't just comfortable with the current BCT's interface right now. If you have an idea of what a forum style website looks like Bitcointalk has one of the most organized and straightforward interface out there compared to what others have been offering. And after some time and you aren't still comfortable with BCT then you are always welcome on leaving the forum and joining one of those cryptocurrency Facebook  hype groups which has nothing close to offer what BCT have.

I don't use it because it is full of UI ( useless information ).
So is 95% of the content on Bitcointalk...

I like the old-school Bitcointalk UI though.
Perhaps certain fonts could be improved, (and definitely user-readability on iPhone/smartphones in general.) This bitch is giving me mad headaches whenever i try to read for more than 5 minutes.

I think its time to change the UI of Bitcoin talk.

Who agrees ?

There are some differences between a social network and a forum, if you want another user interface you should offer another forum engine, and not something totally different like you just did. The idea about a new interface isn't new, and the owner still working on another forum interface, but to see that change we should wait some time because it still having some bugs.

Why bitcointalk.org, which has strong position in crypto, has to follow Facebook, that is a newbie in crypto? My opinion is: NO. Not only because its UI (Useless Information, mentioned by @JetCash), but also its nearly useless Facebookcoin, namely Libra. There are a Libra's WhitePaper, and theymos' first opinion on Libra after seeing its site and whitepaper.
If they make a permissionless cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin, good! Then freedom in the world will be increased. But I really doubt that this is going to happen. Right now their paper reads like a standard scamcoin vaporware paper, and I currently judge there to be approximately 0% chance of them actually allowing anyone to use the system anonymously and freely like you can with real cryptocurrencies.

You should know the difference of the  word "forum" to the word "social" "media". There is no point in changing the simplicity of the current UI to just looks something like facebook.

Maybe the thing that they should focus is the User experience especially in the mobile devices.

Facebook, instagram, twitter, reddit, etc. and similar 'modern' websites are OK-ish at best for new/fresh content, especially picture or video-based, but suck a big one if you're looking for actual discussions. SMF, especially the current version, is certainly a bit dated now, but I'd take that any day over fb or similar trash. Not to mention the bloat, bleh.

Get your game girl
Facebook is terribly slow and the news feed takes a lot of my mobile data. So No.

I'm not a big fan of Epochtalk either, all those fancy colors and animations are not my shit. I prefer simple and plain like the old-school forum's in the 90's. I wish the entire forum was terminal based and one needs to write appropriate commands to perform an action.  Undecided

Epochtalk is in the process of getting released and seriously, I'd like to stick more to this current UI than upgrade it to something else knowing that it gets me the vibe of the retro webpages and mailing lists. Also, I doubt you'll get any support into changing the theme of this forum into something new, as most of the users in here currently are in it for the content and not actually the design of the webpages. Perhaps once epochtalk is released, theymos would allow customizing the forum personally (like what Friendster and Myspace did) though I doubt that it'll get that funky and flexible than what we currently have.

We can do it here, it's just not fitting.
Friendster and Myspace are both dead :/ . While btt doesn't look bad in general, it wouldn't hurt to have a much neater UI, and have a few short cuts here and there(for example having a section with a few of your favourite threads or important pages fixed on one side of a page , like reddit[1]), or when you use the search, suggestions could pop up, et al.

While I get that having a retro look to websites is quite rare nowadays, the user experience quota of the site could be improved in many many ways, keeping in mind the old school theme.

UI is great, UX on the other hand, not so much :/

This is one of strangest suggestions about Bitcointalk that I heard in recent years. How you imagine forum with UI similar to Facebook? So forum threads posts there should be converted into news feed like on Facebook. Honestly, I have no idea how bad it would be.
Content on social networks don't have big value, especially in the long term. Maybe you can find something interesting on Facebook now, but after few days, weeks or months that post will be basically gone and nobody will remember it.
Forums like Bitcointalk are very different. You easily can find posts which was made even 5 or 8 years ago. Bitcointalk is history book of Bitcoin. You can read and analyze Satoshi posts, find story about Bitcoin pizza guy and many other interesting things. I can't imagine similar things on website like Facebook.
If you don't like Bitcointalk interface, I suggest you to go to Reddit/Bitcoin, it looks more like traditional social networks:

I've been accustomed by the forum's UI, I even like this much more on Facebook. I don't want someone randomly reacts on my postings.

I am getting to use of this forum and if ever there will be changes that will going to made or an upgrade then I can be happy also knowing that it would be an upgrade so we can expect good and more lively forum for cryptocurrency. Besides, the forum now is more on plain text and I think it does need more feature that will likely to encourage other users to stay in and feel comfortable in a new forum. Whatever things that will going to happen in the forum, I will fully support to it because it is good to be in the forum like this and it is an honor having this forum.

So you're saying you want a big advertising company to decide what you get to read? Facebook has a terrible UI, designed to get people addicted to their "Likes", meanwhile maximizing the amount of advertising and tricking people to "Like" advertisers.
So no, we don't need that here!

Let me quote Cøbra:
A hundred years from now, nobody will give a shit about Twitter, Facebook or Reddit. But there's a good chance they will give a shit about Bitcoin (and one can hope they will be using it). You can be sure this forum will be in the history books. Little kids will look over archives of our threads as they dream of one day owning 1 BTC. Threads like "we are the new wealthy elite" will be discussed in classrooms. Homework assignments will ask kids to go and research how the HODL meme originated. If Bitcoin does take over the world, you can tell your grandkids you were in the place where it all began. We have something that can't be replicated elsewhere: history.

Bitcointalk is a forum, not a social media site. What makes you think Bitcointalk would work well with Facebook's UI? Just wait for the new forum software to be finished; by then, we would have a far better experience browsing through mobile devices.

There is work in progress, and has been now for some time (years). The idea is to migrate at some point to Epochtalk, a software developed not only for Bitcointalk, but with the intent of being able to implement all types of forums. You can take a look at what the software looks like by using this implementation that a forum user has made to enable anyone to test the software: Cryptos-Currencies.Com : First forum using Epochtalk.

In addition, you can take a look at the following post, specifically on the matter: re: what is wrong with the development of new software ? .

And if you want to create your own test forum on Epochtalk: https://github.com/epochtalk/epochtalk
