I've noticed on here that the FUD threads like "Bitcoin is going to die", "It's over guys", "CEO of blah blah said crypto is going to $0" and the likes just never go away.. I get these threads are very easy for you to up your post count rather than offering advice or something positive in a useful thread, go to off topic and talk about random things if this is your goal.
I try to call these threads out and call a spade a spade, but people just keep on posting in them.

Does nothing but promote more FUD which surely none of us want.. the easiest way to shut these idiots down is to just let the thread go.
That's what happens when you have a ton of people that are more interested in just getting a higher post count than actually contributing something to the threads most of the time. Why bother talking about something that is relevant and has some meaning, AND gets a discussion going when you can throw together a few one-off posts and then move on? I don't think I have had a decent conversation on this forum in almost a month; something that wasn't happening when I first joined the forum. Kind of ridiculous.

We can do two things: either ignore those kind of dumb posts and let people (especially btc newcomers) decide whether it's true or not that "btc is going die", or we can post and refute whatever bullcrap they're trying to spread on the forum. I used to reply to those kind of threads, but the amount of posts that keep popping up every week saying the same FUD nonsense is so absurd that, eventually, I gave up and stopped replying.

I believe most of the time those FUD threads are just bait created from alt accounts that are looking for a way to increase post count in their original account.

I don't mind the FUD here at all. It helps to balance the irrational fanboy exuberance.

We can't stop people from spreading FUDs and fake news because this is a free forum and anyone can make their own statements. Honestly those FUDs are useless if people are going to be smart (no exemption for beginners), I mean if we see any bad news here or outside the forum we should find first other sources that is related to the news before panicking because it can be just a trap. Another one, take note all the names that are talking about Bitcoin will die/end or something that can discredit Bitcoin and spread FUD, so you won't get fooled next time.

let those people post their fud here in this forum no one's gonna bought any fud here and we are not stupid enough to buy those fuds so we sell our coin so they can have discount buying crypto currency if people were gonna bought it we're gonna have ez profit those who choose to buy.

Unfortunately though, some people actually DO buy to the FUD. Tongue The same people who just read the headlines of news "China bans ICOs, bitcoin next", and they're going to automatically think of something like bitcoin and mining is guaranteed to be banned or something. Welp. One thing is for sure, there are always going to be stupid people in all kinds of markets.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for a balance of pros and cons when it comes to discussing bitcoin and crypto, but my issue is more with threads which are pure trolling and some clown pushing an agenda with nothing to really discuss, I know these threads will always exist but my point is more so let's not reply to them and keep them on page 1 daily, calling them out is great but this is only perhaps 10% of the replies.

For example, these types of scenarios
"Bitcoin will go to $0"
Replying with
"I don't think so, it's not going to happen"

This doesn't benefit any one, doesn't benefit a new member or any one reading it, it just keeps bringing it back up, the people who reply with strong logic and evidence are helping the newbies out in my opinion, but often you see the same thing repeated 20 times over.

I don't want to sit here telling people what to do on an open forum, I just feel most of us are over seeing FUD threads with multiple pages on the 1st page daily, I've been guilty of replying multiple times to these threads trying to show their wrong, but I always come to the realisation that I'm just keeping their thread alive.

You either didn't read, either didn't understand. I know that it doesn't benefit anyone and I usually don't post there. But too many will still post and you can't do anything about it. We can't really do anything about it.
All we can do is to educate people to spot the FUDsters and put them on ignore.

I hope that you realize that people starting those threads or posting in them may be paid to do so or they're spawns of traders that have their own agenda.

I try to call these threads out and call a spade a spade, but people just keep on posting in them.

There are too many you have to fight with: people paid to post on a certain subject (OMG gonna die), day traders, signature campaign newbies, newbies trying to increase post count (with merit the number of these should get lower), account farmers (see merit), random people still trying to convince them they're wrong and maybe other categories I missed.
If you take a closer look, you'll see that you can't stop them, they are too many with too many goals, you can only convince some percents of the whole.
I had my days trying to convince them until realizing all this. Now I just add them to my ignore list. My view on the forum became happier since then Smiley

Whilst I'd love it if we could stop the FUD threads it's never going to happen. Less experienced members will always fall for the FUD and come here quick in panic to seek advice.

Threads like that are something we can do without and the moment we don't want threads that talks down about bitcoin while allowing only those that promote bitcoin, then the discussion is no longer balanced which means censor of opinions have been taken too far. Those threads also serve some good depending how you want to look at it.
For example in the face of uncertainty of price and someone who is a newbie or not sure of what is going to happen gets to read such threads which gives room for several arguments and counter ones could then make an informed decision about what he wants to do. (I have been there before) unlike painting everything as all good whereas its not.

The entire crypto industry relies on decentralisation which touches opinions as well, I am not saying all of this should not be looked at but censoring it in my opinion will do more harm along the way.

RawDog is one of the culprits here, and I think it is our duty to counter the statements that are done in these threads. If I

see people spreading FUD about Bitcoin, then I will counter their argument with the facts. A lot of newbies read these threads

and they think it is true. These Trolls thrive on attention, so they will not stop doing this. We DO NOT want to shut them

down, we want people to see how desperate our competitors are, by doing this.  Wink

I agree with you that the FUD threads redouble a negative moods at the crypto exchange markets and probably decrease the price of cryptocurrencies even more. But it is not democratic to shut up somebody if he just says his own opinion. You can create your own positive thread about the cryptocurrency you hold and lift up this topic more often so the FUD threads will be ignored by the people.

I usually report them to moderators as "low quality topics" as the sticky on top of this board prohibits them but unfortunately not much happens. so I say let them run their course, the more these FUDsters make an ass out of themselves the more number of people will become familiar with the notion of FUD and what it really means. hopefully in time everyone learns to go "with the flow" of the market not panic sell after it ran its course and was finished!

What's funny is that the people who post FUD that I see are usually people who has already spread FUD in the past. I really don't know why they're even here in bitcointalk if they hate bitcoin so much. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind some criticism on bitcoin like talking about like sort of "negative" discussions like the scaling issue, noob-friendliness of wallets, bitcoin exchanges going to shit, and the like. But most of the negative posts are like "bitcoin is going to 0" or something like that. That isn't even close to criticism. That's just BS.

You can't really stop FUD from happening. If you stop it on this forum it will still be available on many other sources. Because many people are in because of the price etc. they like articles that talk about that and other ones that talk about some important events that happen around. Some people simply like to spread FUD as this is how they eventually manipulate the market and gain more for themselves.

For sure, but do we need to keep replying and going 10 pages deep on these threads? keeping them on page 1 daily.
