WOW!  Thank you so much Julz!  Your help is very, very much appreciated!  My wife and I have decided that we WILL make this happen one way or another- beg, borrow, or steal (as the saying goes LOL)!  I am happy to hear that it is working for your nephew.  Chad and his family just accepted that he would always be deaf, and that broke my heart.

Thank you again for your most generous donation!

My nephew has a cochlear implant. It's not perfect, but it's such an important part of helping him participate in the world.

I've kicked off the BTC donation with a coin fragment.... good luck with the fundraiser David!

Thank you for your feedback, franky.  Right now we are putting Chad's older brother through college, and another relative lost her house in Typhoon Yolanda so we helped with that as well.  Also please understand that we are very happy to help Chad in this venture and it is our intent to do all that we can.  We are just not able to come up with the full $31,000 for the operation, plus the travel expenses to and from Manila- they must take an airliner to get there since they live in Cebu.  There are also hotel stays and other incidentals that will need to be addressed.

I guess I should mention also that we just recently paid for my mother-in-law's cataract operation, and my father-in-law recently had a heart attack so we help with his medical expenses.  We also give them an allowance every month to improve their lifestyle as they are getting older and have spent their lifetimes working hard to support their children.

In short, we are very happy to help my wife's family and this includes Chad.  If my wife and I were very wealthy we would just pay for this operation!  It is true that we sell gemstones and make custom jewelry, but this does not mean that our money is unlimited...it simply is not the case.

you run a business selling gems.

i think you make enough profit to help out YOU OWN RELATIVE!!!

thats if he existed, then you would have the compassion to donate the money yourself.

again if he existed, you would need FIAT to pay thehospital bills not bitcoins. so maybe you should do some real world fundraising

now some idea's
if school age, ask his school friends parents
get the school to run a fundraiser
ask his neighbours
ask other relatives
sell your gems and tell people 90% of profits go to your nephew (keeping 10% to feed yourself)

My name is David Fortier and I am a long-time member of this forum.  I have a nephew who is in need of a cochlear implant and my wife and I are in the process of raising money to help his family with this big expense.

Let me start by saying that I am totally new at this and I am not a professional fundraiser.  If anyone has suggestions regarding the website or anything else, constructive criticism is most welcome!
