It is difficult to say the price indicator of bitcoin can be effective especially if we use it for the long term, which is certain that the price will always be fluctuating and difficult to guess let alone use indicators, I've used several indicators but the results are not in accordance with expectations, if we focus on long term Investment then the best thing is not to check daily or monthly prices, and focus on hold.
There is no need to look at indicators here long term investment in bitcoin requires waiting a long time because it is difficult to guarantee exactly when the price of bitcoin will increase. But even if the price decreases its value will increase with time, so you have to hold and wait. Undoubtedly the top selection for long term crypto investment. The main reason behind the popularity of bitcoin is that investors believe that the cryptocurrency will increase in value over time. Most investors also believe that bitcoin will continue to rise in value as fiat currencies weaken.

Long term investment doesn't really need an indicator to be fair. You could just buy it right now and you will be making a profit from it whenever and however you want. You just need to learn to hold, and if you can learn to hold then you are going to end up making a profit eventually.

There are a lot of people who fail to do that, they end up not holding for a long time after buying, and that causes them to lose a lot of money but I personally can't be bothered with it at all. I just hope that the best thing to do right now should be keep holding it as much as possible, and because of that I believe that we need to end up with a better result in a short period of time as well but if we have to we should be holding as long as we need to.
The bear market is a good indicator that it’s time for you to take long term investment with bitcoin. No need to borrow money for you to invest, buying at a small amount is a wise move as you invest it for long term without putting pressures in yourself when to reap your investment profits. At least invest and forget that you have an investment, believe me that is proven to be effective in the future.

i can agree with bitcoin, but if the OP wants to explore with other alts, he should be very careful in doing so. most alts have short lifespan. you can't even get your ROI and they are already dead. if the project has solid foundation such as massive usage in the market, where the public can use it not only selected few. hard to venture in a small project as people move on from one project to another if they see that it is not gaining attention from the masses.

As the title says, I hope some of you can share your experience about the best indicators for your long term investment.
So far I've only invested on a cyclical basis, but I'd love to get your experience into consideration for my future investment plans.

Some of the indicators that I use is by looking at how well Bitcoin has done in the past and project same success to the future of Bitcoin then invest based on the fact that bitcoin is only getting started and that means it'll continue getting more popular and increasing in value.

Bitcoin is always going to be bullish long term, the bear markets are for the short term and won't last forever but because we're having more halving of bitcoin block reward in the future, bitcoin scarcity will keep on increasing and this will benefit the price of Bitcoin.

Another indicator is the percentage of the population of the world  involved in Bitcoin is very small and this numbers will increase in the future which means more investors actively trading and investing in Bitcoin in the future which will reflect on the price of Bitcoin.

Actually the main indicator for Bitcoin price is Bull market and bear market. When you see now bear market running you can buy bitcoin and hold for long time investment. Now bitcoin price is very low from ATH. If you buy now it’s price will increase must i think. So you can buy now. I think you will be huge profited. When you will see Bitcoin price more dumping then you will think now best time for investment. Because it will came back Again today or tomorrow. You can DCA then.Otherwise i have no another idea about indicator.

A massive bear market is an indicator that you should buy and hold bitcoin if you want to hold it for a long time.

Another is bitcoin halving. After bitcoin halving, the price will go up that halving year and the following year most likely.
Yes. Having a massive bearish market is not bad at all as it could make the best entry for your bitcoin accumulation. While bitcoin price is still affordable, then do maximize buying and invest for long term hodling. If you invest without pressuring yourself from profiting, your investment will paid off in its perfect time. It’s not how big you start your investment is, but on how you handle your investments despite of the market uncertainties and unexpected market crash.

This year2023 was not really a great year for crypto investment but at least it wasn't bad compared to last year. However, with the current situation, I see this as a good time to start accumulating some Bitcoin because a few years from now. That is why we don't have to miss this opportunity but rather grab it while the price is still low because we believe that after halving there is a price surge the same thing that happens before. But still, we need to take extra caution and keep on this saying - "invest only the amount that we can afford to lose".
IMO, crypto refers to shitcoin so don't invest in shitcoin.

The price back down (bearish) seems to be prolonged until the end of this year is just my wild guess, but you need to believe that bitcoin has strong fundamentals even if the price drops at this time and you still have it, then hold on or better accumulate in any way, for me this is a golden opportunity to continue to increase bitcoin in our portfolio.

Even if the price falls to $20K I will continue to make entries.

2023 is a good year to jump in and start investing a few dollars into crypto. this is the lowest price and we are still away from half of the ATH nutrient. We just need to do DCA now and will enjoy the benefits next year through 2025 which is my target for the long term. Holding some of the top bitcoins and altcoins would be great, I did this and started buying gradually.

But wait, don't you want to mention some risks about that instead of the good possibilities in the coming year?
I think it's good to start showing a keen interest in investing in bitcoin and some of the top altcoin right now, but they all have to know what the risks are about that. It is clear that the market is very volatile and even very difficult to predict ahead of the 2024 halving, so they need good consideration before investing in it.

You offend DCA, that's helpful advice. I have done that too and of course it's a good plan to at least be able to hope for returns in the years to come after the halving. If someone says this is not the right time, then the question is when?

Bitcoin has a decade old history and we have a price patten that indicates both upwards and downward moment. After every halving we have a bull run and so is expected after next halving. For me Bitcoin price is not dependent on news or other events rather it has its own logics of going up and down. Buying Bitcoin at the moment is best option as next halving is coming next year.
The bitcoin half that is always awaited, it will be the moment when bitcoin can reach ATH again. Everyone hopes so, buying bitcoins is currently the best choice. we are still down about 60% from the last ATH in 2021. Looking forward to 2024 which will probably repeat decades of successful history of bitcoin. Confident with the development of bitcoin to date.

The single best indicator of the Bitcoin price is where we are in the four year cycle. Bitcoin’s price has always followed a specific fractal pattern that has been extremely predictable. This was especially true up until FTX’s price manipulation in late 2021. I have no reason to doubt that we won’t see a similar pattern going forward.

For the long term security of our money, of course, we have to think about profitable investments in the future or long term, investments according to cycles or trends that are popular, of course, only short term so we have to prepare long term investments, and in my opinion the best long term investments that are already popular and the safest are properties such as houses, land, and so on.

The indicator I use is the market situation itself, we have to go along with it. Buy crypto during the bear season and hold...that is the only way I use when it comes to holding long-term. We have to keep in mind that even without indicators but through our market analysis, we already know when it is the perfect time to buy and what coins should we have to invest in.
I'll tell you that is not all about using the best indicator but is all about choosing the right investment for us. If we know how to do it, definitely, it was not hard for us to make a fortune in crypto.

There are many indications and everyone has different views and beliefs of course, Personally I only rely on the past Bitcoin Price to invest long term and also some try to enter at the right time, I think the time of entry is very decisive so it is important for us to understand the market situation.
And also what is not unimportant in my opinion is the positive and negative news about the world economy, I think it has a little influence on price movements.

Bitcoin price history. That is your best indicator for the long term investment because bitcoin price history has always gone up, and it shows that sometimes it crashes after the big bull runs so if you are smart enough you do not invest when the bull run is at its peak but instead you invest when the bear run starts after the bull run and crashes the price a lot. That's how you improve and that's how you get to see the price do a lot better.

I understand that it is not going to be easy but it can still be done one way or another. This means that you need to check the history, see when it went up and see when it went down, and calculate when it will go up and when it will go down and make your purchases according to that.

Sorry, I forgot to mention what asset I was talking about, but you have guessed right. I invest in bitcoin for the long term, so my focus on this topic is about good indicators for investing in bitcoin.

A good indicator is certainly that Bitcoin was created in 2009 and today not only does it still exist, but it is worth thirty thousand times $ more than when it was created - or maybe $ is worth so much less Cheesy

The very fact that some powerful entrepreneurs, politicians and bankers have constantly attacked Bitcoin over the years and said that it is nothing and that it will turn into nothing, or that it is a mirage/rat poison squared, was enough for me to understand how afraid they are if they talk like that.

If you don't have enough indicators from the past, look at what people like Saylor, or companies like BlackRock used to say about Bitcoin in the past, and what they are saying today. Not that it should be a deciding factor, but I'm saying it's better that they realized it later rather than sooner.

I don't have any indicator which I use in terms of accurately predicting the future price of a particular crypto, but when I want to consider a long-term investment and the general view of the market before positioning my investment portfolio, I look at what the weekly and monthly charts are saying, and sometimes I do extend my view to a year chart to set my positions in the market.

You answer a very lengthy post yet you failed to answer exactly to the simple question. Analysis part is already given since you will not use indicators without analyzing the data it provides.

Bollinger bands and EMA lines with longer time interval is perfect for a long term trend analysis for your investment. Actually, most of the indicators can be use on same purpose if you will just a long time frame for your charts. Long term investment is very easy to analyze since you will just need to find a coin that is performing good in long term before it got dump without any major issue behind.

Investment with trading there is a difference in implementation. If you choose to invest, then in theory you don't really need indicators. You just buy regularly when the price is considered cheap.
Usually, indicators are needed by traders to analyze prices such as technical indicators suggested in every article about trading.
Those of you who choose to invest long term, maybe the DCA pattern can be used.
-snip-
The DCA pattern needs to be done correctly, reading the market and how the trend will continue.
Without analyzing, it is impossible to see the potential for the right entry.

Long-term investment with DCA is less taxing on the mind.
We just need to buy and target the top price, quite simple.

But it is really necessary to analyze first, learn how the market works, and start entering.
All indicators used for trading are the best, depending on who is using them.

For long term investment, it is necessary to do a lot of research and determine which crypto currency is the best to invest in. That's the hard part. You will need to analyze price histories, review the whitepaper of cryptocurrencies to assess a specific area in the market and try to take government regulations and the like into account. You can prioritize two different options when investing. The first is to invest in cryptocurrencies with a certain history and the second is to prefer cryptocurrencies that have just entered the market, which you think can increase in value quite quickly. The second option involves many risks. I don't think there is much need for technical indicators in long term investments and i can recommend that the important thing is to calculate the cycle at the right times and invest accordingly.
I can say that the most important indicator of long term investment in crypto markets is the estimation of the time between the beginning and the end of the halving time and starting investments with the beginning of bear markets. If you don't have a weak hand and have a successful Hodl time, i’m sure you will see the benefits of your long term investment at the next halving time. There are many indicators for short term trades but the only indicator i would recommend for long term investment would be Hodl.

For crypto, it's the 4-year cycle based on the bitcoin halving that serves me as the best indicator and it never failed so far. Bitcoin remains the main investment focus but it's not and to diversify and pick some of the altcoins of your taste as long you DYOR and invest what you can afford to lose. Outside of crypto, it's mostly on the fundamentals of the assets like stocks, foreign currencies, real estate, and many more.

Real estate is my best pick outside of crypto because of how small my country is and yet we have a huge population so basically the demand is overflowing over the fixed supply.

If you invest for the long term, it will be quite easy. As long as you buy bitcoin at a price lower than the old ATH and still below your sell target then you can buy at any time. Because we won't be able to invest by buying once and we will buy bitcoin every time we have money. So as long as the bitcoin price stays below the old ATH, that's an indicator you can buy.

Market cycle investing is a wise investment method and if it gives you good returns. You do not have to change your strategy or copy from others because each person will have their own strategy, maybe that strategy works for them but it may not be right for you.

Indicators are very useful in trading but in investment or those of you who are considering for the long term, then the four-year cycle is the best indicator, buy when the price starts to fall when it reaches the latest ATH and keep saving or keep buying if you have enough money to come back sold about a year after the last halving, so far it has been quite profitable for the holders, indeed some time ago after the halving it was predicted that the price would reach over $100K but that was not achieved but the four-year cycle was still achieved as usual, and because you have made investments based on that cycle, it is the best because trades are often not according to analysis even though you have used many indicators because many things can affect the market.

There is no single best indicator that you should adopt over the long term - but I think the best advice is to buy the dip and then hold it. You know that bitcoin has lost more than half of its value to ATH - so buy it while it's still as low as it is today.

I'm not insisting on continuing to use the indicator if I plan to hold bitcoin long term - but I just need to try to stick to the first plan and adjust my accumulation strategy accordingly. So if you don't want to bother with finding the right indicators - then just take advantage of your current opportunity to buy as much as you can afford to lose.

Actually what you just said concerning holding bitcoin during the bearish season is the best option but some of the investors or beginners doesn't differentiate the difference between long term investment and short-term investment during bearish season and bullish season, I know quite well that bitcoin price do get appreciated when you hold for long time and especially when you purchase bitcoin during the falling time and hold, some people doesn't believe that holding have it's advantages and mostly the people that always been in rush to sell out their coin is people that have not understand the procedures of bitcoin.

The biggest indicator for now is the approach of Halving. Other than that, you need to look at the loops. At the same time, I can say that Bitcoin never loses in the long run. If you have the strength to hold Bitcoin for the long term, you don't need to look for another indicator.

Other than these, I can't find any indicator that will lead us to the conclusion. Because there are many different news every day. What is good today may be bad tomorrow.

You failed to mention what asset you want to hold for the long term in your comment,  but since this is Bitcoin speculation board I will make my analysis based on Bitcoin and just like the first member that comments rightly said,  the best indicator to buy bitcoin for long term holding is when the price is at discount level,  and that is low price.

Let's say when Bitcoin was below 20k price that was a good time to buy and be able to hold for long term goals.
Sorry, I forgot to mention what asset I was talking about, but you have guessed right. I invest in bitcoin for the long term, so my focus on this topic is about good indicators for investing in bitcoin.

You made the right choice by investing in Bitcoin and choosing bitcoin for the long-term investment goal,  this is the best choice when it comes to assets for long-term potential because Bitcoin has proven over time to be the most sustainable asset class for long-term holding and this is what has motivated many of us into holding bitcoin and choosing it for the long term goals.

Most especially anyone that bought below the 20k region most especially those that bought bitcoin at $15k when the bottom low was hit the last time.

Target the dip and invest, hodl and wait till after halving to know what will come forth after your long time hold, by then, bullrun is the main target of everyone investing on a long run, it's not too late for such time now.

So far I've only invested on a cyclical basis, but I'd love to get your experience into consideration for my future investment plans.

I would have like to introduce you with DCA method but since you're going long and big probably, you can set a time frame for your buy and hold at once, you can ever loose as log as you invested now because we are still on the dip.

There are no indicators like many people say for long-term investment, I don't know what you mean by indicators that can analyze into the future? But I think it's difficult and there can't be a more accurate indicator.

You intend to invest long-term of course in bitcoin, right?
See how the history of bitcoin travel is able on its way back to its peak again? Then see what happens after the halving event occurs, maybe many people can say it is a bullish trend, therefore you don't need any indicators in bitcoin investment while prices are still low, then do your strategy whether by DCA or lumpsum.

Why do you need an indicator if you will invest long term. You don’t need any major buy signal to purchased tokens while you can use DCA method to safely enter since your goal will long term. You are decided to trust the project that’s why you will go long term or else you should just invest short term.

Simply browse the chart and use a ling time frame so that you can see what project is down a lot from all time high and stay at the bottom until now. Make sure to use fundamental analysis to backup your technical analysis to make sure that you are not buying a dead project.

You don't need indicators for long term investment. All you have to have is a target at what price you want to sell your coins. If your coin is bitcoin, you must be clear in determining your target selling price, and if it reaches your selling price, you better sell it immediately, especially if it is the new ATH price for bitcoin. When it reaches the peak price, the bitcoin price will definitely experience a correction, and often we see the price immediately drop to the lowest price again and will be there for some time. That's what I do for long term investing in bitcoin, so I don't think too much about the volatile price it is right now.

Not really sure what you mean, but if you are really holding bitcoin for a long term or at least one cycle (4 years), then all you have to do is to buy specially at bear market. You don't need to wait when to buy, no need to time the lowest low or bottom price because no one can see that.

All you have to do is to just buy as much as you can in years regardless of what the price will be and then HODL and then like what others did, wait for the bull run and then sell and make profits.

There is no need for any indicators in long-term investment, for example you invested in bitcoin ATH before $69K and the current price is $30K half ATH from the previous price, if you believe in the 4-year cycle then at $30K it is time to enter with your investment, while many speculators that the upcoming ATH is more than $100K.

Indicators are more precise on trading, but long-term investment is quite simple buy, then HODL.

This.

I was just thinking about the same thing.

I invest for the long term and I don't look at indicators. I look at the essential properties of Bitcoin and its history, which makes me think that the price will continue to rise more and more during the following cycles. Therefore, at what price I can buy now is not so important. I do DCA and that's it. But even if I had a lump sum to invest for the long term, holding it for a couple of cycles, I would invest it today at the price it is, because trying to get it right if the price goes up or down a bit is not going to make a significant difference in profitability, and you can always be wrong.

Go for basic or core indicators that are common now.
Because I can see a lot of traders are just using these basics indicators for aged or since they are trading.
You just need to master it and know when and where to use it.
Because me, that's also what I am using, I am not fan on some indicators that will just make your chart messy.

There are no accurate long term indicators. I assumed the 200 WMA was a rock solid indicator because it predicted the last 3-4 bottoms. Then when it appeared as support back in 2022, it broke thru.

Same is true for any other long term indicators that have 100% win rate. They might have predicted 3-4 times in the past but it’s not enough history for it to be accurate long term.

Simply there are no accurate long term indicators.

I have mixed feelings to say especially about the best indicator that I have adopted so far.
Sometimes you need to make some adjustments for one reason or another, but in essence the best indicator to adopt for investing in bitcoin is when it has lost as much value as it did in the last year. You need to consider the bearish market as one of the indicators, but technically, of course you can use several indicators for monthly TF.

For times like these I think the best advice is something like this; Prepare your budget, do an analysis, buy - withdraw your bitcoin to a non-custodial wallet - be a holder for the long term (at least until a new ATH appears).

What I did is I looked at the market chart and check its previous performance. It took a while to analyze the chart but it was necessary if we wanted to invest in the right project. But as we are talking about long-term investment, even without using this, as long as we are investing in Bitcoin we can say that we can earn a profit surely. As long as we can manage to hold it after buying and then sell during the bull season, guaranteed profit is always there. Some people just lose in Bitcoin because of being impatient which is why we have to change it and become certain of our goal.

I don't have any specific indicators about long term investing, but I think you just need to have a good strategy when you want to invest in it. Bitcoin has lost over 50% of its value since his last ATH in 2021, so I guess you know what to do instead of asking about the best indicators.

We have had a bearish period in 2022, I think that is one of the best indicators why you need to accumulate. But another useful strategy that you can consider is; buy dip and hold and accumulate as much as you can.

When you're just speculating you don't need any indicators and besides if it's a long term plan just DCA and sell it on the price target you want. Moreover, there's no best indicator out there so I will just po that bubble of yours. If you want to succeed on long term investments just have patience and have that with you always that clearest set goals.

But this year bitcoin did not drop to 20k, which indicator is the best? In my opinion, as long as the bitcoin price is below the old ATH and below the target where you will sell your bitcoins then you can buy whenever you have the money. No one can predict bitcoin's lows during the bear season and the highest price during the bull season. So don't try to search and wait for the lowest price to buy, instead we can use DCA strategy during bear season.

Smart is not enough, there must be skills
During a bear market it's time to make more entries because that's the best price you can buy for long-term investment, so what indicators do you want as your plan?

How about you have tried the DCA method during the bear market? I think those are some of the best ways to set an average purchase price but that's been my experience while investing in bitcoin.

About based on cycles, come when prices fall - sell when bullish, maybe it will continue to be the same cycle but remember this way is still difficult especially if you are not in a mature plan.

There are many indicators and we have different points of view when deciding to invest long-term, personally I still believe in the historical price movements of Bitcoin from the past which makes my benchmarks and beliefs repeat to decide to invest long-term and also some time to be able to enter at the right time just like during a deep correction.

Use the Monthly time frame and you’ll still see a bullish trend.
Honestly, indicators are for trading and your basis when to buy at a cheaper price, that means you can use any as long as you understand its concept, the goal is to buy at a cheaper level for your long term goals. Also, try to look at their fundamentals since we’re talking about long term here, having a solid target in the future can be a big project as well.

A massive bear market is an indicator that you should buy and hold bitcoin if you want to hold it for a long time.

Another is bitcoin halving. After bitcoin halving, the price will go up that halving year and the following year most likely.
