let's make a deal.
I'm Canadian and I've known about MintChip since the beginning and yet to ever seen it in any kind of ad on tv, radio, magazine, newspaper, web or any other kind of promotional literature.

Never seen it in action in any market, ever LOL

It won't be miss Smiley

So they (probably) spend "untold millions" in dev costs given to well connected friends of politicians, then don't even bother to promote it?
the canadian government recently spent $2.5million for countrywide advertizing for the the Canada Job Grant, a program which was never launched.

mintchip is a cool name, though.

Learning the troll avoidance button :)
The Canadian government has announced that it will end its MintChip electronic payment system, and that it will look to sell the business to the private sector.
Announced in 2012, MintChip was not a digital currency akin to bitcoin, but rather a digital payment mechanism meant to function as an electronic cash that could be transferred between users.

Still, MintChip was widely viewed as an alternative to bitcoin that was famously criticised by Bitcoin Foundation director Jon Matonis for “missing the point” of the technology.

The news is surprising given that as recently as this past September, the government was reportedly working on a second version of its MintChip concept.

MintChip was not a "genuine crypto", but at least it is no longer competing with BTC. (Depending on if they are able to sell it)
How many other altcoins died this week?

He-he I guess things change quite quickly, funny since I just noted that the mintchip could be the government equivalent of Bitcoin and of course a day later this comes out Smiley

It is beyond me why Canada thought it could do this.

I mean, these are the people who run the baby seal hunt.

since when the Government ever had a good idea? of course their "digital" currency will simple be the same as the regular currency lol

As for the baby seal hunt? I'm not going to open a can of worm but since international fishing killed orcas and sharks the seals no longer have natural predators and the are over populated eating more seafood than before man was around, therefore destroying the natural local habitat of bears, penguins, dolphins, whales and birds... So yeah we do allowed seals to be hunted, but the baby seals crap is false, the French bitch from the 70s paid 8 rednecks tons of money to massacre babies for the faux-documentary, all the local government recognized the hunters on that film and were all jailed the same month the movie came out. The only time a baby seal will be killed is if he,s still a pup and his parent were killed, no other seal will help them and won't learn any skills and die from hunger, mercy kill.
