.com domain is still popular because it is the first domain. However, .eth domain will dominate eth community or projects that relate to crytpocummunity.

I want you to take a deep breath and remember that .com is the king of the internet. Yes, .eth might be useful for the username feature it provides as you mentioned in the OP. However, buisnesses cater toward newbies to the field of ETH as well as established members.

If website owners start using .eth do they have to pay the gas fee everytime someone tries to access their site or some daily fee to keep using the .eth domain? Then if ETH reaches the price of 500 dollars the fees will be so very high to keep paying for the gas fee.

Could somebody explain to me in an ELI5 manner, the relationship the new Ethereum name system and the traditional DNS system is going to have?

To my understanding, Ethereum's name system will enable the owner of a name to use it as a payment address as well as contain a website, smart contract, software, or identity. Can this essentially become a username/profile system to be used in the wider Ethereum space?

Can you post the article where you read that,I will just go in your title no I don't think .eth can replace .com in the future millions of websites has been on .com for many years and changing that to other extension will harm their position in the search engine and in the eyes of their clients..
