smf1 don't support gif images on profile need an addon for it to work or get up dated forum but I do not see bitcointalk updating it as their looking at new software to use for the forums. Simple solution to fixing bitocintalks security problems get up dated software and be fine.

Maybe will come to allowing it who knows no doubt will stay disabled. Solution to this would be to update smf forum version and sort a lot of problems that it has on the first ever release of it.

It's impossible for those of us who don't have any.

You cannot add or change it, as it was disabled for security purposes. Wait for the new forum software to be released, and hopefully changing avatars would be allowed by then.
