That sounds really annoying! I’ve had similar issues when my drive got full, and it can mess with the wallet files. Make sure those wallet files are in the correct folder that Bitcoin Core looks for, and double-check their format too. Sometimes, I’ve found that moving the files to a different location and then putting them back can jog the program into recognizing them again. Also, make sure you don’t have multiple instances of Core running, since that can cause some serious hiccups.

The wallet files need to be in the wallets directory inside of the data directory. They should be placed in individual folders with the name of the wallet, and the wallets file themselves should be named wallet.dat.

Bitcoin Core should detect the wallets once you do that.

You can also treat the wallet files as backups and use the Restore Wallet feature instead. Bitcoin Core will copy the selected wallet file to the wallets directory and load it. The original file will be untouched.

I filled up my hard drive and didn't realize it and because core was throwing an error about a file perhaps the bitcoin.conf that I probably deleted.  I see copies of settings.json but when I open them they are empty including the setting.json file.  I have since increased the drive size and resynced after a couple of months but while I see the wallet files core does not load any of the wallets and when I select File/Open Wallet I get nothing and it hangs for about 30 seconds.  I can see the Wallet files in file explorer so what is going on in core that doesn't allow me to open any wallet?
