By proxy I mean seetings on the Proxy tab (in the Network panel) where SSL is selected. As for server in this version (2.9.3) the server tab is greyed out unlike in 3.0.2 so I can't see any choices for servers Sad
That'll be because you have "select server automatically" checked on the "Overview" tab. The network settings options were changed around a little in the upgrade from v2.9.3 to v3... Wink

In v3, the "select server automatically" option was moved to the "Server" tab...

Well...I set the pull down box under SSL to NONE and came back later to find that darn light had turned green  Grin how about that.
Maybe things are looking up Smiley
Yeah... looks like you'd accidentally configured Electrum to attempt to connect to a (non-existent) SOCKS5 proxy on your local machine Wink

Tried 3.0.2 using same parameter (no proxy) but still no connection. I noticed the recent_servers file's time stamp hasn't changed. Previously under 3.0.2 that file wasn't created at all. So at least I know 2.9.3 will work !

Thanks for the asisst HCP, hope this might help someone else Smiley

Wait... You have the proxy switched on? Are you actually running through a proxy? By default, all that is set on that page is "Use SSL"... "Use Proxy" should be unchecked.

Also, what server are you attempting to connect to? I'm currently using electrum.achow101.com, port is 50002.

I have watched and deleted the header files in the AppData\Roaming\Electrum folder before when I was troubleshooting. The header file does reach a 37MB+ size, so that process seems to be working. But I've left the app open for a least 2 hours to no effect where the 'connection' status is concerned.

I added inbound and outbound firewall rules to allow program connection access.

Not sure how I should have the proxy set for this version test, right now it's SSL SOCKS5 local host 9050.

How long are you leaving it when you start it up?

Electrum needs to download about 38megs worth of blockchain_headers during first load... unfortunately, it doesn't really indicate that it is doing this, it'll just sit there with the "red" circle showing. Last time I did this from scratch, it took 10+ minutes (even with a 2meg internet connection)...

Check your Electrum Datadir (C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Electrum on Windows)... and see how big the blockchain_headers file is... and/or just open Electrum and let it "sit" for a good 10-15 minutes to give it time to sync up.

It could also be that your network is preventing connection... have you checked your firewall settings?

Do you need v3.0.2 for any reason? If not, try v2.9.3 and see if that works... https://download.electrum.org/2.9.3/

It might be that even though you managed to get v3 to start on Win7, it might still not be functioning correctly.

Tried both stand alone .exe and install versions. Applied KB2999226 update. Set server to auto select and flipped thru all the possible conection tab options. disabled security software and checked firewall settings. Can't get it to work (connection light stays red).

Any suggestions ? I'm about to give up at this point.

Thanks
