Install using pip3 as per the instructions on https://electrum.org/#download. Don't install using the distro's repos. Those tend to have outdated versions.

If you need a script that does the installation for you try this one: https://github.com/BitcoinsPakistan/electrum-install

Ask me for Pools, Nodes and Explorers.
First of all, why are you running virtual box on Windows 7, as it is still highly unsecure and does not really matter that much if your main OS is infected.

Which distribution are you running on virtualbox? Did you follow the Official installation docs?

It would help alot if you could copy paste the output from your terminal, as without it it is really hard to debug where the error is and why it happens.

Edit: never heard of whonix, so i did not know that it was an OS. Did you go through the https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Money#Electrum

Hi,
I can't install latest version 3.1.3 of Electrum in Whonix (I have no previous version of Electrum). I have Virtualbox version 5212 and Tor 7.5.4. I run Whonix in Windows 7.

Install dependencies works fine to install in the terminal. But the "install Electrum" line won't work. It starts unpacking/downloading but then there comes a long error message (most in red letters) that starts with: "Exception Traceback (most recent call last):" and it ends with "NameError: name 'platform system is not defined' storing debug log for failure"...  Between this there are much more. Does anyone know how to fix this? I would be very greatful.

Best regards
Benny
