Still don't know why this green bar appears with a "reset" option.  What is it resetting?  Why has the developer left it in when there is no clear explanation what it is doing  Huh
You are creating a "subset" of UTXOs (unspent outputs) to spend from... you can "shift" or "ctrl"-click multiple addresses/coins in the "Addresses" or "Coins" tabs and add them to that subset... It will then tell you how many outputs you have available in the selected subset (and also the total your wallet actually contains), and the maximum amount of BTC you can now spend

Clicking "reset" simply clears this "subset" and will allow you to spend the max balance of the wallet from ALL of your addresses.

In this example, I've selected 1 output from the 45 available in my wallet... and can only spend 0.1 BTC from my total wallet balance of 7.2+BTC (yay for TestNet! Wink):

In this example, I've now selected 8 outputs from the 45 total... and can spend a max of 2.10954629 BTC:

Clicking "reset" simply means I can spend everything, but the wallet will then decide automatically which addresses/outputs to use.

Do not bother too much with the reset thing at the bottom. It is actually letting you know that you have some coins or addresses are selected to spend from. Resetting it, will just remove them from the list I guess although it does not show you anything until you go the the Spend tab.

O.K  This looks like it will work but how do I set the address I want it to take the funds from?.  I have 3 addresses.  It was easy before as I just clicked the address I wanted the fund sent from and selected spend.  Now I dont know which it will spend from?
It's the same as before. May be your Addresses tab is not visible.
Go to View then click on View Addresses.

Once you will see the Addresses tab then just select the addresses you want to spend from and right click and then click on Spend from. Then go to Send tab and follow the same direction as you did with Coins tab

Understood.  Still do the same process to spend from the address in "coins" tab and then continue to the "send" tab to finalize the payment.

Is there any particular reason why some things in the latest version are further complicated and used to be much simpler? If even more experienced users find themselves confused, what to expect about those encountering this crypto wallet for the first time...

Maybe Electrum is changing its approach to being a wallet for those who are a little more experienced?
I am fairly experienced with Electrum but still I had hard time to figure out the process in fact I have a topic about it and some users in the forum helped me to figure it out. Yes, it is complicated now and I do not feel good about it. Maybe ThomasV needs to think about it and revise things that are making users confuse.

Electrum is the wallet which was loved by most of us just because of it's simplicity.

What to do?
Go to spend Send tab without resetting the green area appears in the bottom.
Give the address, amount and then click Pay.
You will see a new window.
Adjust the fees and click Finalize, then click Sign and finally click Broadcast.

Green bar appears at bottom of Electrum stating "Coin control active: 1 outputs available" etc and a option to reset.
I was in the same position as you when I first tried with the version 4.x. It is confusing. Maybe a lot of things need to improve in the next version to make it more user-friendly.
In the earlier version it was very easy:
You click pay from the address or the coin then it used to take directly to the payment page. The fees calculation was in on the same page too but now you have one pop up only to adjust fees.

Cant create a spend from a Bitcoin address in Latest Bitcoin Electrum 4.0.2

Click "Coin" tab
Select address and right click "spend" option
Green bar appears at bottom of Electrum stating "Coin control active: 1 outputs available" etc and a option to reset.
Click "reset" and try process again but keeps putting this green bar at bottom again to reset.  This never happened in previous version.  Huh

What to do?
