Roger Ver just did that. He purchased a Saint Kitts-Nevis passport for $400,000 and renounced his American citizenship. And as far as I know, he is still enjoying his life in the beaches. Do you know the best part about this? The best thing is that he paid for his passport in Bitcoins! (Although that option is no longer available in St Kitts).
