I'm not an expert in this field, but I think that hosting gambling games on a VPS seems risky, because it might break the Terms of Service of the hosting provider.
I guess that you should avoid all the big VPS providers like AWS,Oracle,Azure,Alibaba Cloud,Google Cloud,Vultr,DigitalOcean, etc.
I know that several hosting providers are more tolerant towards hosting gambling, adult content, etc. but I don't remember their names, since I'm not interested in hosting my own gambling or NSFW website.
Perhaps your should check out for "offshore hosting" providers.
I don't know which one is the most reliable provider.
Maybe there's a way to check the hosting providers of all crypto casinos.
Domain WHOIS lookup or something similar.

Good point. That means VPS's are out (particularly shared VPS's). Fortunately, I know a few offshore hosting providers - once I get the specs I'll ask around to see if they have an appropriate box for this.

The Minimum System Requirements for Online Casino Play
4GB of RAM.
1.6 GHz Processor.
1024 x 768 Minimum Screen Resolution.
The quality of your screen resolution governs how clearly you can see the images of gambling games on your screen.
Flash Player 10.2 Or Above.
512 KB/s Internet Speed.

I am not quite sure that 4GB of RAM will be enough to serve several hundred users at once given that this article was written from a customer's point of view (and not from an owner's point of view).
4GB of RAM is just a minimum system requirement so if you can add more than 4GB, that will be better for the computer works.

But I am sure Dedicated Server will serve you better than VPS as you have a private server that you can manage by yourself and the spec will be good to serve hundreds or even thousands of users at once. I am quite sure about how the DS works because DS will have more features depend on VPS so you need to adjust your budgets.

To run a big business like a gambling website, they need more than VPS so it could be they need to use a Dedicated Server from a good hosting provider that allows them to run a gambling game website. The security will be better compared to VPS, although they need to spend more money to rent the server but that is worth it for them to run their business every day.

This article can be a good point to know the specification of the server :

It's pretty rare some owner casino discuss in the forum, most of them only discuss in their thread, and 90% update the casino news or responding some issue.

I only see "devans" from bustabit who sometimes can responding other threads not only his casino thread, maybe "pm" to him about his experience, feedback or opinion about the VPS hosting he was using for his casino site. I know there has several site who make a review about this topic, but get some nice feedback or opinion from casino owner have more points plus rather than article google.
^ I definitely agree with this, if you ask a normal user for sure not all of them experience as a dev on a gambling casino and it could be zero knowledge or they got information from Google. Much better to seek a professional one and I also agree about devans as we always saw here sharing about his experience as a gambling developer/owner. Or I will devise to seek professional one who has experience in maintaining a casino to become a good casino. Which is I saw above all of them are not a developer.

I think both are important as ram can help to run the application run smoothly especially if the game that will be added on takes lots of ram compare to rom. TBH, I don't have experience in hosting but in my opinion if your client wants a fast and have lots of space for upgrades later on. I don't know if it needs a lot of spending or not when focusing on both. It's better if you base on what your client will use the VPS for, that way it is much easier I think to determine which is best to focus either ram or rom.

The perfect solution only could be given by gambling owners who are running gambling sites at the moment. But I don't think they will come here to answer your question, because gambling owners are competitors of each other, so they will not share the hidden secret of their platform. How about if your client set up their own server? I know it is quite difficult but not impossible.

This is what my client is doing but we need to know what specs are the most appropriate (which resources we should focus on) to avoid overspending, or buying a server without enough resources to handle all the load.

The previous reply already says I will recommend one of Contabo or Hetzner to him.

By the way, I have searched and found a list where you can host your gambling sites, since you are not encouraged to use AWS so you may choose one from the list or you might compare each other. I have no experience with any other hosting service, I had used previously NameCheap and currently using Godaddy for a website but I don't think they are perfect for gambling sites. I've heard of Contabo - my buddies told me they're an excellent provider. Hetzner is also a formidable option, haven't heard any problems about them.

So those two could actually be our best shot - I don't like some of the other providers on your list, since they are very pricey for just a small amount of resources - it adds up if we need to spawn more servers in the future.

Which by the way, still leaves the question of how much resources are necessary to support hundreds of users playing a single game at once [networking will not be a problem for us] - which I'm sure game owners can answer.

I'm also not quite sure about what specs are most important for a casino VPS - is more CPU important? Or RAM, or both? Obviously it must have a good network speed.
I'm also not sure about the specifics of the question: VPS, RAM and CPU, used on casino websites, this could be said 'you who have questions know better than those who answer' or 'passenger is better than driver'.

Just additional information I want to show you, I'm sure you already know about it.

Depends on the VPS you are using.

Because there are only a few decent options out there, I’ve also included some VPS hosts that won’t give you unlimited bandwidth, but that do give you enough to manage a lot of visitors per month.

AWS very best bro.

I have not hosted any casino website yet. But being a web developer of many mid scale projects since 2009, I can recommend Amazon Web Services. I don't know whether you have ever used it, but once you start using AWS, I am sure you would never want to look anywhere else.

I have built an ecommerce website where they used to run promotions from time to time and the number of users increases during the promotions. Amazon will bill you for that spike but your users will never feel a difference. Scaling up is just a piece of cake with AWS.

I'm pretty much against using cloud computing platforms for hosting since they are overly complicated to use and you will end up wasting time reading documentation trying to figure our how to secure/manage your server. Also if you want more support they will often charge you an extra fee for that and my client is on a tight budget.

I despise AWS in particular, after (an unrelated experience) they kicked me off their platform, a second time (!), for not giving them proof of address (invoices, utility builds, etc), and I will not expose my client to that kind of risk.

So I am looking for proper hosting providers - think those that give you a cPanel instance - and it should not have a history of hacks or law enforcement raids (this is a requirement, not a would-like-to-have).

Asking for a client.

My client is planning to host a single casino game and we anticipate a few hundred users playing it at once. They asked me to recommend a VPS for them. Their hot wallets that will be used for deposits/withdrawals will be stored on it so it has to be with a provider that doesn't have a history of getting hacked - that means no Linode (Re: inputs.io saga).

I'm also not quite sure about what specs are most important for a casino VPS - is more CPU important? Or RAM, or both? Obviously it must have a good network speed.
