Today is a holiday..... in Canada eh Smiley Maybe only Ontario..

The following Canadian provinces and territories have a holiday on the first Monday of August: British Columbia (British Columbia Day), Alberta (Heritage Day), Manitoba (Civic Holiday), Saskatchewan (Saskatchewan Day), Ontario (Simcoe Day), Nova Scotia (Natal Day), Prince Edward Island (Natal Day), New Brunswick (New Brunswick Day), and the Northwest Territories (Civic Holiday).

Quebec, Newfoundland and Nunavut do not have an August long weekend holiday and therefore conduct business as usual.

But cavirtex.com ( Alberta ) is up ( although it has always been slow ) and working normally as far as I can tell.

Outages and unexpected glitches are one thing. As we get close to the 12 hour mark though, it's pretty reasonable to start worrying.

That "hack" story couldn't have come out of nowhere. Well, it could have, this is the internet. But a little bit better communication is really warranted here.

Particularly because no reasonable financial institution would be doing major upgrades to their systems at noon on a weekday. That just doesn't make any sense.

Cavirtex has been a solid exchange for over a year. I fully believe that it will not be a candidate to be shut down by hackers. At the very least not permanently.

I think it's more serious. According to twitter, it was hacked, and they've lost $630,000+

http://twitter.com/#!/search/cavirtex

Twitter is just twitter - but an outage in the middle of the day certainly sounds fishy.

The platform might not be able to handle the volume. The exchange was really busy today.

Hopefully, it's not a "hack". Any word on how many coins were stolen?

It was up for me half an hour ago the same as it always was no notice posted on the news page so if it was hacked you would think there would have been something there.
Nope, not a hack.

As posted on our twitter, we are updating our site with a new release and it is taking longer then expected. We are taking Canada XpressPost Bank Draft and Payza withdrawals out of Beta as well as other minor improvements. The update required a change in our database and it is taking longer then usual to update, our technicians are working on it now please stay tuned to our twitter feed @cavirtex. We are not being hacked.

Original reddit that stated it was hacked. (http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/xnabb/cavirtex_bitcoin_exchange_hacked_632000_in_loses/)

They just tweeted:
"The site has now finished updating and is live again..."

But I can't connect. Been stuck at "Connecting..." for several minutes now.    Undecided

They are going to have to do something about that site if they expect to put out an ipo ( "in the coming months" ) to try and get people to invest in their exchange.
