Would Bitcoin ever become centralized? That's a huge fear in any mind.

But I think there will always be lots of miners, just that they'll continue to use more powerful hardware until they can no longer mine using that hardware, then continually upgrade. They would do this to support the network, and to protect their own interests - which is the face value of bitcoins. In the face of increasing hardware costs, bitcoins would need to rise to help meet the financing of the hardware upgrade cycle.

I can't see how this could cause great harm to Bitcoin, but it's possible down the road...just that I can't see how it could if everyone keeps increasing their hashing power.

There are some bots and other specialized stuff, no consumer clients that I know of. You can anyways run it in any browser, why would you need a (compiled) binary that is platform specific?

There's an iOS app, no idea about usage, since I don't own Apple hardware. (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ripple-client/id694391487?mt=8) Probably one of the few iOS apps that can send Bitcoins by the way.

https://github.com/ripple/ripple-client <-- javascript client, Open Source for more than a year now. Anyone can host this, the one on ripple.com is just more convenient I guess.

If I want to transfer BTC to someone I can do that with the Bitcoin Core wallet for example. But with XRP there is no way for me to withdrawal XRP from the ripple.com website. Therefore, if ripple.com is shut down, I will not be able to send XRP to someone else. That's the difference as I see it. Does ripple have any plans to create a Ripple Core wallet to allow XRP to held outside of rippple.com?

Ripple is not centralized, XRP (the native asset on Ripple) are centrally issued though.

It's like shutting down the internet when you want to shut down facebook - a different "layer" on the protocol.

Any centralized system of exchange of assets will eventually be shut down by governments. E-gold is a perfect example. Won't more recent examples such as Ripple eventually be shut down as well?
