I managed to get 28 activity on my first day, and I seem to have picked up a few merits, which was a bit of a surprise, because I didn't expect to get any with this alt. In a couple of weeks I'll get an upgrade to member, and that gives me a sig with links and enough length for my needs. That's without really trying, and maybe that is the answer. Merits are like cats, ignore them and they will find you and be your friend. Chase them and they will scratch you and run away.

DdmrDdmr and Bitmover have already demonstrated it is possible for a hard work and amazing content.
Just take a look at their work and you will see that the merit system is not only a great idea, but even has made people like them to make really useful content to the forum.
Of course, not everyone can create such amazing posts, not everyone has the knowledge or the time, but this is possible, and has been demonstrated already.

Welcome to the SaltySpitoon, how Tough are ya?
The main point should be that ranks aren't really that important. Newbie accounts may have a bit of a negative stigma to them when it comes to a few things regarding credibility, but the difference between a full member and a legendary member solely because of the rank is relatively little. The vast majority of old members didn't really have any rank goals in mind because there was no benefit to being a higher rank. The merit system is primarily to weed out account farmers and spammers, an individual should have no issue getting as much merit as they'd like, eventually.

Its not that hard to find a topic to reply to that helps someone out for a merit here or there. Exceptional members are those that are able to post generally insightful and helpful posts. It'd be great if everyone posted like that, but realistically, as long as you aren't detracting from the conversations you are welcome here regardless of your rank or merit level.

One thing that I'll mention is that because of all of the annoying merit threads, I've decided not to award any merit to anyone in a merit related thread, regardless of how exceptional their post is. It just incentives the further teetering of spam level threads that people are making. I'm sure each individual has their own I will or will not give merit scenarios.

I see challenges but i see no reward, why should people do this challenge? If you just want to prove, then see some statistics that some member made on met section, there are so many newbie and jr. members who ranks up to the next lvl, and i believe there are some goes to full member.

Finally! 101 merit and 84 activity!! Celebration Post! My thoughts on merit.

I was a newbie with 0 merit when merit system was implemented. I have now 133 merits and 84 activity. I am not a full member because I lack activity.
You can check my profile for my earned merits. I earned them one by one mostly. Never got a post which received more than 5.

There are other people who have earned far more merit than I did. I am not a crypto expert and I didn't knew a single member from this forum.

I don't have much time.

So I didn't study this case closely as it should. I just skimmed quickly through your posts.

You are the perfect example that merit system is bad.

Most of your posts on English didn't receive merit altho you spent maybe 10-20 minutes writing a high-quality post. Not one of your posts, I noticed at least 10 that should be merited, but they didn't. (and I skimmed through maybe 10-20% of your posts)

Most of the merits your received are from the Portuguese/Brazilian community.

So, it is not the quality that matters, but who has merits to give. It comes down to whether you are noticed by someone who has lots of smerits and did he had sex that morning so is in good mood.

Even more, if the local community is strong or if you are good with movers and shakers.

I have also seen people with high-quality posts that didn't receive any merits (zero merits!) with 100+ activity, sorry 100+ quality activity.

That is everything but the righteous system.

It's more random than the price of the Dogecoin.

And we are on the Bitcoin forum, where thing should be arranged smartly. At least smartly.

Hey look, we are both full members. We both got given 100 merits for free when the system was first put in place. Since then, I've earned a bunch more. You've earned zero.

Maybe, just maybe, the problem isn't the merit system - it's you.

Edit:

The merit system was introduced on 24th January. I see your last post before this one was 26th January. Therefore, you can't be angry at the merit system regarding this account, as you haven't even tried to level it up. I can only assume, then, that you are angry about merit because you are trying to level up alt accounts so you can cheat bounty campaigns. Proof that the merit system, although not perfect, is working well.

I just got a little break from posting, because the merit system has spooked me.

I am just angry because people abuse merit. For cheaters it is easy to get merit, they will always find the way. For the newbies it is extremly hard.

LOL. He did not mean it that way, he's just being sarcastic over the fact these shitposters thinks that implementing the merit system is unfair to them because they can't even earn a single merit.

I'm getting the tired of these kinds of threads about complains in the merit system. I really don't care about the OP once I know what will it be all about. I'm just fond of the replies of members who will contradict the author.

Every idea has pros and cons. Merit really needed to be introduced to protect this forum from posting garbage. If you look around now, you will see people are actually trying (in most case) to put their thoughts in whatever they are posting, i.e: yourself!

You are talking about challenges? You already have your answers.

Forget about nullius, the user is exceptional IMO. Exceptional can not be an example. But...

I have already completed your challenge. here is my celebration post.

Terminated.
This is a crybaby post. Go away.

Your challenge is a display of your butthurt. nullius already beat it and he didn't even need to create an alt account. Suck it up and start posting something that doesn't damage the reader's brain cells.

yea they are dumping all btc and going all in into alts
we are dipping even more omg
yes i agree the 2018 is going to be huge for crypto

Yawn, yet another thread moaning bout merit. I also have a challenge for you: How about you start writing more than one or two lines and actually put some effort into your posts and see how fast you get merit? People who make great, informative posts will likely have no trouble getting merit, but for those who are just churning out lazy, mediocre drivel just to get paid, then yeah, they probably won't get any merit unless they cheat the system.

3. Newbies have no chance to get merit (many quit)

Why would a Newbie quit because they didn't get merit? The only people who are going to quit are those that are here purely to earn and if they leave just because they can't contribute something worthwhile then they won't be missed.

So, guys, I have a challenge for those happy hero, legendary members who are OK with the merit system Smiley

Create a new account and without any connections, try to earn merit and rank up. If you are successful we can say that the merit system works!

What do I think about merit? It is completely unfair. Why?

1. it favors those who already have a high rank
2. There are a lot of account farmers who already ranked up. (why punish new members)
3. Newbies have no chance to get merit (many quit)
4. Cheaters will always abuse any system, they have abused rank system now they are abusing merit system by meriting their accounts. (cheaters will always find a way around every system, another punch to the newbies)

If you think different. I respect your opinion. You have a chance to prove me wrong by doing my challenge!
You can skip the ranks, just try to get 100 merits without any connections with a brand new account! Common heroes and legendaries!
