It is a bad idea. Whenever you consider making changes that you think are for the betterment of the forum try to think if it can be abused. And your proposal can be abused like stated by previous members.
As to your other proposal regarding a sort of KYC, that goes against the basics of Bitcoin and decentralisation. theymos has stated many times that he is against implementing KYC and rightly so.

This is a bad idea. Would become like twitter where you can buy 'followers' from India that are just bots or random people who are only on the platform to try and sell their accounts as followers.

My guess is that you already know that, as that system would suit you since you've got lots of 'friends' (or alt accounts), but you are throwing the idea out there to try and get some traction.

I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of newbie posters/alt accounts come on and start saying that this is such an amazing wonderful idea  Undecided

A newly created account suggesting changes on the merit system is quite unusual.

I did some digging and found out that you have many alt account as shown in the image below. This is probably the reason why you are suggesting something that you can easily manipulate.

I also found out that you have other accounts, aside from the list above, that have been abusing bounties as it was reported HERE

Even prior to the implementation of merit system, it was discussed as early as 2014, Can we "Like" a post? by Vod.

So I don't see if this is a viable options though, merit is already enough, in my opinion.

<…> I don't know as though I have ever received merit on any of my posts. I don't know as though I will any time soon.  That just means I need to step my game up.
But you have ... you’ve received 4 merits for the following posts:
BOID  -> 3 merits.
re:What do you think of Utopian on the Steem blockchain? -> 1 merit.

You should also have 2 sMerits to award by the way to any decent post you come across.

Anyhow, OP was already discussed on another thread in the Beginners & Help section, posted just 10 minutes earlier (see re: I know about Merit but what is Smerit? )

I haven't been on here very long but it seems like Merit is pretty hard to come by.  I think that speaks to how important it is that you post a quality post so you can try and earn that Merit.  I don't know as though I have ever received merit on any of my posts. I don't know as though I will any time soon.  That just means I need to step my game up.

Well this is not same as your normal social media platforms where people struggle for like.
So if you like a post and it was helpful to you genuinely then you can simply merit it. It's that easy and effective

I am alive but in hibernation.
Just go on producing the quality article. If you are still unlucky to get merit then you can apply on various merit give away threads.

Fair on who's standards? This ain't reddit where upvotes/merits are being given for free so that users can rapidly rank upbor increase in family. By giving a choice to members to have an unlimited way to earn merits they will always try to exploit it. With your given idea for members to receive merits they will only just create 10 accounts to get 10 likes on each post they make or even more depending on how greedy they are. Pretty crazy right? The current system we have right now is hard but its fair for everyone, you might not be experiencing it now but it will come as long as you learn.

If we can evaluate someone's post with the LIKE button. So then evaluate that article based on the number of LIKE.
If the post is 10 LIKE, you will receive 1 Merit. and get 20 LIKE then be 2 Merit.
why change something that works just fine?
if you think a post is good and deserve merit, just award 1, 2, 5... or 10 merit as you like (pun intended)
why makes it complicated by requiring 10 likes for 1 merit and so on?

So it will be more fair with the current application. What do you think about my idea?  Grin
I don't think "fair" is your objective, but to make it "workable" is more likely Roll Eyes

Create new accounts and keep liking the posts. Easily can be abused.
Anyway, I think the board has talked about this kind of things thousand times :-D

Accounts need to be verified by phone or ID. If there is no verification, the present donation or sale of the film is still happening a lot.
You really needs to spend a lot of time to understand the forum culture. You are still too new to get everything that is going around here. :-D

I'm afraid this is an even worse suggestion that your initial one. All that would happen is that real users who value their privacy would abandon the forum, while spammers and scammers who either steal or buy other people's data would flourish. The day bitcointalk mandates KYC procedures is the day bitcointalk dies. Thankfully, theymos agrees:

I'll get right on that, just as soon as hell freezes over.

What do you think about my idea?
Unnecessary and too easy to abuse. There is lots of merit in circulation, and we have repeatedly found that the number of good posts going unmerited is very small. Your system would allow spammers and bot-nets to easily rank up their accounts by "liking" their own posts or selling "likes" to each other.

I looked through your post history OP. I'm afraid the reason you have no merit is because you haven't posted anything merit worthy. It has nothing to do with failings of the system.

but people able to give like should be trusted members (Dt1?)
This is barely any different to Merit Sources being able to give out merit. It simply adds another unnecessary complicating factor to the system.

I think is not a bad idea, but people able to give like should be trusted members (Dt1?) , or this can become another easy way to create fake sMerit / pump account.
