Blockstream, Bueller?

If nobody's going to sponsor this, I'm dropping the middle name & will have to pay for my name change to first/last only, by selling my stuff for dirty, dirty, fiat.

Replies in bold.

You realy want to change your name into that one?

Yes.

Or is this just for drawing attention?

For the sponsor(s) of the name change, yes.

If you change your name that might bring you some administative issues and procedural problems but it may also impact your personal life.

It will make my life a lot easier after the paperwork is complete, never again having to write my longer birth name. And my middle initial, most commonly requested on paperwork, rather than the full middle name, will not change, as I noted in my OP.

Have you thought realy good about that. And what when you change your mind again? And in few years you probably will.
As my OP said, I've already been using Alwin since 2008; coming up on 8 years, on my birthday. It's long past time to make it official, and Satoshi as middle name is a perfect vehicle for me, to do so. Your arbitrary projections about my life are unwelcome.

Sig spam? Do not post in this topic again.

Well then, you might have this name: Alwin Satoshi Roe. This wouldn't make your name odd to anyone either.

BTW, have you got hold of a lawyer who is willing to do this for you at a cheaper service charge?

I've seen odder.

None of the fees in the OP are what a lawyer would charge - they're charged by the government and a local newspaper.

Why don't you change your name to Satoshi Buttermoto?

It will actually be helpful in many ways.

By "Satoshi" everyone will start recalling at once about Bitcoins, and may make some puns.

Also "Buttermoto" will be useful in 2 ways... People will get to know that,

  • You are the one behind the account "TheButterZone".

  • Dealing anything with you would be as smooth as butter. Since your motto is always in conducting smooth transactions without any hiccups.

Let me know what you think about the new name : "Satoshi Buttermoto".

That's not my motto. No.

Can you share what your current first name is ?
I assume you don't like it?? And that is why you are changing it, so its probably a good one to share :p ??

BTW... Why Alwin ?? Or am I missing something ?

Jonathan. I haven't liked it since I was in elementary school. I shortened it to Jon in the early years, then John up until 2008 for aesthetics.

I requested a spiritual name change and was told Alwin, meaning 'noble friend', and it hilariously turned up in my ancestry later on. I forget the exact relation... I need to look in my dad's database.

I guess he has some sort of affinity for Germans!

Alwin is a German form of Alvin and may refer to:
source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alwin

German affinity? Not really, other than some DNA. Japanese affinity, absolutely, which is why I can't see regretting Satoshi as a middle name.
i think jonathan is nice name!! but it is your choice, i think changing your name is a fun idea, to satoshi is even more cool!
good luck!

Ok, where exactly are we at with this?  You are still wanting to change your name to what exactly?

How much are you looking to raise?

Would a selfie at the courthouse with official paperwork be provided?  How open are you to letting the largest donor pick your middle name?

So many questions...

Same name change as in the PGP-signed OP. Middle name must be Satoshi; this is a Bitcoin Project Development.

I personally don't want to touch any funds or fundraising. If there was a single sponsor, they would pay directly to the required entities as outlined in the OP. Multiple sponsors, they pay to the project manager, legal counsel, or escrow, who'd then pay the required entities.

I'd be willing to participate in reasonable PR such as a posed photo with/without sponsor handshake at the courthouse, text-based interview for sponsor press releases.

I just came across this and it sounds bizarre but amazing.

My suggestion is that you create a fundraiser on one of the bitcoin fundraising websites? I came across one but I forgot what it was. Anyways try this: bitcoinchipin.com. Never used it, but typed in bitcoin fundraiser and this was the top answer.

Good luck and I'll be following this!

Wow, i respect your decision...

But do you know those guys who make a tattoo of their girlfriend just to find out that there's an even better woman on the planet they will love in future?

I was hyped about bitcoin, too the last years until I found there is "Gridcoin" which provides real value by not wasting electricity but putting it into scientific projects. Now, if i had tattoed "Satoshi" or "Bitcoin" on my belly, today would be the day I would laser it just to make a new tattoo with "Gridcoin" on it. The same goes for your name.

Think about it Smiley But however, this is a creative idea  Smiley

It's not about hype for me, but the sponsor(s) are free to use this project for their own hype. Middle names are rarely revealed in the US and as I said in the OP, S is already my middle initial. As I have a Japanese affinity, even if bitcoin goes to hell, Japan won't simultaneously do the same, or erase all the good memories I have.

why you need change your name ? respect your parents.

There are some parents that want to name their baby girl Satoshi Bitcoin... These acts should be forbidden somehow.

I wouldn't want to be called AMIGA or Z80 just because my parents liked computers.

yes, the parents should thinking what happen if the name will be out to date. I mean what happen if in 10 years bitcoin / satoshi no longer exist, every years we got new stuff and technology coming in.

Well, Satoshi is a real Japanese name, so I don't see any problem with the hype fading away.

Exactly. Satoshi is a pretty generic name too. It would be explicitly bitcoin-related if I wanted to change my middle name to Nakamoto-Satoshi.

My parents have called me by new name since 2008.

This would be a perfect fund raiser for a lighthouse assurance contract.

http://blog.vinumeris.com/2014/05/17/lighthouse/

why?

Also, it would be awesome if you did change your name!

Because people can pledge money and it only gets posted if enough is raised by a certain date. If not, the money is returned.

I would pledge if I knew it would be successful.

BitcoinStarter.com does that also.  The only difference between BitcoinStarter and Lighthouse is decentralization.  But then again you still have to trust the project is legit and there is no middle person between Lighthouse to do that.

"(5) If the petition for a change of name is sought in order to conform the petitioner’s name to the petitioner’s gender identity, the action for a change of name is exempt from the requirement for publication of the order to show cause under this subdivision."

I was planning to switch my driver's license gender to non-binary when I renew/convert it to REAL ID in 2020 anyway, but this will eliminate the "$65 to publish order to show cause for 4 weeks in a newspaper" in the budget & I will pay the "$27 to change CA driver's license" since I need to pay that anyway. So that mainly leaves the San Diego, CA Superior Court filing fee (still $435 Effective August 1, 2018), $? certified copy (or 2 certified copies?) of Decree of Name Change, and $23 to change birth certificate per https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CHSI/CDPH%20Document%20Library/ADA_Court%20order%20name%20change%20(01-18).pdf (not optional, required to change name on REAL ID driver's license). I've mostly filled out the 5 court forms, so they will just need a legal review before I sign/date them.
