I still use ChangeTip on Reddit, but I have not received any tip in the last 3 months. It's like it was a craze for a bit and now it died out. It's still a great APP with huge potential, but the cash out directly to fiat, is a downer. They would not have done that, if the people did not ask for that.

I guess people want to convert back to fiat, because the merchant and services accepting Bitcoin is limited in some areas.

Yes, Perhaps "Protip" needs to either be forked or developed further to include some of the functionality that changetip offered.

I would also like to see ProTip add some of these features. Right now it's pretty good for tipping people who are already aware of Bitcoin (it searches the current page looking for BTC addresses) but it needs a way to offer BTC to content creators regardless if they know about Bitcoin or have an address, ie. just with a username.

Changetip is nice, but it would be even nicer if it had a method (inside the interface) to fund the wallet for free (seeing ads or something).

You can introduce someone to changetip but ... How do they fund their account? is a bit hard for a new user to put in dollars there.

Changetip already allows you to directly buy btc with debit/cc cards and why would a new user have a problem getting BTC ?... they were introduced to BTC specifically because someone gave them btc ... there tip account is therefore prefunded.

Probably a dangerous idea associating ads to any form of wallet as that could be a malware/exploit vector and a very efficient one to target as the criminals know that the user is definitely a bitcoin user. (Vs paying for generic ads on another platform like google adwords.)

I heard of something that might be a good alternative.  "Bitcoin" I think they were calling it.  There were others like "litecoin" for even smaller transactions.

I like your Sass but how can you tip a non - bitcoin user , bitcoin ... one of the primary Raison d'etre of using changetip in the first place discussed in the OP.

You can use ShapeShift.io to send Bitcoins to someone using an altcoin.

I always liked Changetip very much. I think they have done a lot for the Bitcoin community. And they are still doing, they are increasing number of Bitcoin users daily, I am sure of it.

Now I know that recent addition weren't welcomed by some, but I don't see a big problem here. People will do with their money as they wish if there is USD allowed with the Changetip or not. We shouldn't worry too much about it in my opinion.

It would be nice to have an alternative to Changetip. That's how the free market should be.

Actually, they are the only company in the space with this business model, so I guess that sooner or later we will see new companies coming out similar to changetip.

Coinbase had a tip option called "coinbase tip" but was shutdown as well.

There definitely is a need to fill the role that changetip used to satisfy.

The best alternative would be, I think, tipping directly with an address Cheesy It's not hard to setup a web wallet or a mobile wallet for starters, nowadays Smiley

Tipping directly is best, but what was great about changetip is it easily allowed us to tip non-bitcoin users as a means of introducing new users into our little cult. Additionally , it signaled other non users reading the thread that such service was available and thus advertising bitcoin and in turn encouraging more donations to the artist. When you tip directly there is no was of seeing the donation unless you are a bitcoin users studying the blockchain.

They have this referring to alternatives, and on Bitcoin I honestly don't know more than what's on their website.

Thank You.

Tippercoin is good but appears twitter only and is onthechain txs. which is both good and bad for various reasons.
PikaPay is shutdown
/r/bitcointip  is reddit only (A place where many users are already familiar with btc and is onthechain txs. which is both good and bad for various reasons.

The altcoin tip services are offtopic and not very interesting.

I have really appreciated what Changetip has done for the community these past couple years and love using their service to introduce new users/artists to using Bitcoin. This being said some recent changes they have made by adding a USD wallet purse and allowing recipients to easily cash out in dollars partially defeats their purpose. They now are a great off the chain payment rail for microtransactions, but no longer serve the purpose of introducing new users to the practice of retipping or spending their bitcoins directly as many of them are likely going to simply dump their gift in btc.

I don't fault them for this as it will be very profitable for them when they start charging users 1 dollar + 9% to withdraw the dollar pocket + exchange fee, but I would prefer to use their old service where recipients where encouraged to learn to use bitcoin.

Are their any alternatives that work for Youtube/facebook and other social media platforms that doesn't make it so convenient to avoid using bitcoin?
