Well hopefully we can just use the same passwords* but I'm sure there will be a way to avoid phishing.

*Where did theymos state this?

Sometimes search is better - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search;advanced. Wink

To prevent people from thinking, "This is a phishing site trying to steal my password!", the primary method of resetting your password will be email reset. A secondary (maybe slightly-hidden) method will be to use your current password. So you needn't worry about having an invalid email address now.

A valid email address might be required in the new software, though. I'm not sure about that yet.

This is going to be a pain to those who registered with fake emails or have multiple accounts and then need to create new ones just for this .

You are right. There are fair amount of users who use throaway emails.

Isn't there a better solution?

Slickage doesn't have access to password and thus, they can't migrate it to new forum software. So they will send emails. However, like theymos told, we might be able to login with old password.

What about getting a PM here with a link to synch/claim your account on the new forum? I think that would be far easier if it could be implemented easy on the admin's end.

It is better IMHO. I didn't think about this. I am pretty sure a bunch of bots will come with fake PMs. Any way to solve this?

Probably, theymos will tell everybody to change the email address before new forum releases. So you can change email at that time. theymos also said that users maybe able to sign in with old password but it probably will be hidden.

I don't think you will get spam if you use your email address. Keep email address hidden and you will be safe. I am not getting these type of emails from people. These emails are received mostly by users who reveal their email to public.

So I read recently that everyone needs a email that they can access and not to use a throwaway email which I have used. I've used a throwaway email to avoid phishing atempts and would like to know when will we be notified to change our emails before the new forum comes out?

I would like to know in advance so I can change it and not lose the account but I dont want to change it yet due to the problems I've heard people having with phishing and fake emails from people acting like they are theymos which I'm not smart enough to detect so instead just avoid it.

I just want to change it a few days before release and then change it back to a throwaway as soon as possible
